Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Almost completely mad true god 9 Cannot reliably distinguish his own Blessed. His ravings indiscriminately reach low-Sequence followers.
Divinity isolated in the Shadow Lantern 84 Cooperates with Nimrod’s extraction of the divinity lodged in Lanevus. The lantern is placed in Sefirah Castle for recuperation.
Partial lucidity restored 98 The isolated fragment benefits from its relationship with believers’ anchors and Sefirah Castle’s suppression of Primordial God Almighty’s psyche. It can respond coherently and break down a Beyonder characteristic.
Separated psyche cleansed 107 The Celestial Worthy removes God Almighty’s mental impurities from the recovered psyche. Believers connected to this stable divinity begin recovering alongside it.
Increasingly coherent will 150 Growing anchors in Tingen and Backlund allow his will in the lantern to regain clarity after awakening.
Will restored to normal 169 Confirms that the new anchors are sufficient to normalize his will. More believers could support the transfer of characteristics and a limited earthly manifestation.
Angel-level earthly incarnation 215 Descends through Mr. A. Intervention interrupts the full descent, leaving the incarnation with angel-level rather than complete true-god power.
Avatar-to-main-body recovery established 241 The main body–Sefirah Castle–avatar connection lets the escaped avatar influence the main body in reverse, while the Celestial Worthy attacks the God Almighty will transmitted through the connection.

Background / History

The Ancient Sun God’s Legacy

The True Creator inherited the Ancient Sun God’s humanity and almost all of his memories, while Adam inherited his divinity. Their shared origin remains concealed even from Amon for more than two thousand years 166 191.

Nimrod describes the Ancient Sun God as humanity’s first sovereign, formerly possessing authority over storm, sun, wisdom, degeneration, and the mind. In the history he recounts to Derrick, the kings betrayed and killed their Lord, divided his glory, and witnessed his rebirth seven days later under a changed honorific name 66 137.

The True Creator was subsequently driven out by seven gods acting together and retreated to the Eastern Continent, now the Forsaken Land of the Gods 9. During the Fourth Epoch, he ruled the Northern Continent alongside the Black Emperor Solomon. Solomon’s resurrected subjects supplied enough anchors to keep him reasonably sane for a time 150 195.

God Almighty’s Erosion

Primordial God Almighty’s awakened will is a central obstacle to the True Creator’s sanity and independence. Nimrod chooses to approach him rather than Adam, hoping to restore an ally capable of suppressing that will 55.

Faith in the Ancient Sun God does not automatically provide usable anchors for the True Creator. The City of Silver and Moon City continued worshipping the Ancient Sun God through centuries of darkness, but the loss of his Sun authority prevented that faith from anchoring his present identity 169.

Appearance

His earthly incarnation wears a black robe and has a sculpted, godlike body. A single blood-red eye, brilliant as the sun, occupies his entire face 215.

  • Single eye: Remains a defining feature after the descent; he closes it while sensing his newly gained anchors 216.
  • Shadow manifestations: His power spreads through dark shadows and can form an enormous inverted cross 215.
  • Dangerous divine presence: Without the protection afforded by a descent vessel, the Mandated Punishers who saw him would have melted into flesh or been assimilated into fallen shadows 215.

Personality

Before his recovery, the True Creator is overwhelmingly mad. His indiscriminate ravings endanger his own followers, and he cannot consistently identify blessings supposedly granted by himself 9. This condition is distinct from the self-sacrificing pioneer Nimrod admires in the Ancient Sun God—someone willing to sacrifice others for Earth, but also willing to sacrifice himself 9 55.

He remains capable of calculated decisions despite that instability. When negotiating with Nimrod, he demands a vessel for his fallen nature and imposes a characteristic-based safeguard against Nimrod becoming Lord of the Mysteries before fulfilling their contract 77.

As his lucidity returns, he becomes a restrained, practical ally. He addresses Nimrod as “ally,” answers questions about the Fourth Epoch, and offers continued assistance after his descent 150 216. He also questions Nimrod’s anger at the East Borough’s suffering, asking whether his dissatisfaction is directed at its conditions, the gods, or Earth itself 178.

Abilities & Skills

Degeneration and Corruption

The True Creator’s authority exposes and intensifies degeneration. His power is especially effective against followers of evil gods and individuals already close to losing control 183.

  • Through the Shadow Lantern, Nimrod makes Zatwin’s existing impulse toward corruption grow wildly 183.
  • His aura can intimidate certain evil spirits, low-intelligence Spirit World creatures, and Fate-pathway Beyonders 77.
  • Divinity lodged in a human vessel can cause severe decay and distortion, as seen in Lanevus 84.

Shadows

His divinity manifests through shadows that can spread across rooms, form a domain of darkness, and assume the shape of an inverted cross 183 215.

  • His incarnation counters the Lord of Storms’ descending lightning with a vast shadow cross 215.
  • He moves through a realm of shadows and gathers Medici’s spirit body into his palm 215.
  • An infusion of his shadows helps Medici suppress the competing wills of Sauron and Einhorn 215.

Blasphemous Words

His declaration, “I forgive you,” brings the Mandated Punishers’ buried resentment, compassion, discontent, and depravity to the surface 215.

  • The emotions arise from the targets’ own wills rather than being forcibly imposed desires 215.
  • Fragmented memories accompany the effect, exposing their perceptions of the Church and kingdom 215.

Divine Gifts and Appointment

The True Creator directly appoints the Aurora Order’s letter-coded Oracles rather than leaving their promotion to the organization 49.

  • Grants Nimrod a sealed Sequence 2 Profane Presbyter characteristic, establishing his authority as an Oracle 77.
  • Answers Nimrod’s request for a thirty-minute Black Knight gift, manifesting black armor and granting access to the Blade of Spirit and Flesh 211.
  • Supplies the power Medici borrows to wield a black longsword capable of severing spirit bodies during the Backlund battle 214.
  • Can reclaim bestowed power: after Nimrod becomes a demigod, he decides to retrieve the Profane Presbyter characteristic to strengthen his incarnation 216.

Divine Descent and Protection

His Backlund descent uses three ritual focal points—the Shadow Lantern, Megose, and Mr. A—to reconstruct a body from divinity and Beyonder materials 210.

  • Believers praying throughout the East Borough provide the foundation for the descent 214.
  • Authorizes Mr. A to bear his will when the original ritual risks interruption by the Lord of Storms 214.
  • Protects people willing to accept his protection during the Great Smog, according to Nimrod’s account to Audrey 216.
  • The resulting incarnation retains only angel-level power because the full descent is interrupted 215.

Knowledge and Characteristic Manipulation

His inherited memories make him a valuable source of Fourth Epoch information 150 191.

  • Explains that earlier arrangements, God Almighty’s will, and the peculiarities of Cheek and Tudor brought the Mirrored Original Creator into existence 150.
  • Uses the divinity in the Shadow Lantern to break down a Sequence 7 Pyromaniac characteristic for Nimrod 98.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Shadow Lantern — Holds the divinity extracted from Lanevus and serves as the recovering True Creator’s means of communication with Nimrod. It contains divinity, not Beyonder characteristics, and later becomes a focal point of the Backlund descent 84 150 183 210.
  • Ouroboros’s Reboot charm — A serpent scale used to receive and restrain his fallen nature. Together with the gray fog, it filters his voice during the pact with Nimrod 77.
  • Inverted-cross mark — Nimrod’s mark of divine favor becomes the seal containing the Profane Presbyter characteristic. The gift also acts as a contractual restraint by making Nimrod’s characteristics impure 77.
  • Divinity Charm — Supplies the foundation for the ritual extracting his divinity from Lanevus 83 84.

Relationships

  • Nimrod — Contractual ally, Oracle, and later Saint. Nimrod supplies anchors and Sefirah Castle’s cleansing; the True Creator supplies authority, resources, gifts, and support for his pursuit of Lord of the Mysteries 77 191 195.
  • Adam — His other half and rival for dominance. Their conflicting approaches shape Nimrod’s decision to support the recovering True Creator rather than Adam 55 127 166 195.
  • Primordial God Almighty — An invasive will eroding his sanity and autonomy. His recovery depends on separating and purging its influence 83 107 195 241.
  • Celestial Worthy — Helps cleanse his separated psyche through Sefirah Castle. Later attacks God Almighty’s will as it passes through the avatar–main-body connection 107 241.
  • Medici — Loyal angel and organizer of preparations for his return. The True Creator rescues and stabilizes his spirit body after the Backlund clash 207 215.
  • Ouroboros — Favored angel whose scale enables the pact’s transfer of fallen nature 52 77.
  • Mr. A — Devoted Oracle who becomes his descent vessel when the Backlund ritual comes under attack 214 215.
  • Megose — Carries his divine child in Tingen and later participates as a focal point in the Backlund descent 100 210.
  • Lord of Storms / Leodero — Active enemy who attempts to destroy both the Tingen descent and the Backlund incarnation. He ultimately accepts a compromise rather than raze Backlund to eliminate an angel-level avatar 103 215.
  • Eternal Blazing Sun and God of Knowledge and Wisdom — Their churches treat him as a major enemy. His later True Sun God identity deliberately targets the Eternal Blazing Sun’s vulnerable faith 21 241.
  • Evernight Goddess / Amanises — Her church becomes more neutral as he shows signs of lucidity. Nimrod later suspects an understanding between the two deities, but does not confirm its terms 128 218.
  • Derrick Berg and the City of Silver — Through Nimrod’s guidance, the city renews its faith and adopts the names True Creator and True Sun God 137 241.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Tingen: A Descent Redirected

Nimrod’s inverted-cross mark gives him immediate authority within the Aurora Order, despite originating from Grisha Adam in another timeline. He uses that position to take responsibility for the Tingen Descent of God Operation while secretly working to prevent the sacrifice of the city 9 19.

The planned incarnation involves Lanevus and Megose, whose uninformed pregnancy is arranged as part of the ritual 52. Rather than permit a mad descent, Nimrod bargains directly with the True Creator: he will increase the god’s anchors and help restore his sanity in return for support against Adam and backing in the contest for Lord of the Mysteries 77.

Nimrod extracts the divinity from Lanevus, then cooperates with the Nighthawks against the threat posed by Megose’s divine child. After the crisis, the recovered psyche is cleansed of God Almighty’s impurities, allowing Tingen’s believers to connect to a mentally stable divine presence 84 100 105 107.

Backlund: Faith, Charity, and Incarnation

Nimrod expands the True Creator’s anchors through missionary work and the Aurora Order’s changing public activities, including the Fried Foundation’s poorhouse. The followers’ improved mental health nevertheless remains dependent on the stable divine avatar answering them; its destruction would make them mad again 130 169 177.

During the Great Smog, the Aurora Order uses the crisis to begin the incarnation ritual. Mr. A ultimately redirects the descent into himself, allowing the True Creator to manifest before the Lord of Storms can stop it 208 210 214 215.

The incarnation clashes with the Lord of Storms and survives the interrupted descent. Witnesses in the East Borough become new believers, while the Church of Storms publicly characterizes the event as a possible collective hallucination 215 216.

Southern Continent and the True Sun God

After returning, the True Creator turns toward the Southern Continent as the foundation for his renewed influence. The Aurora Order begins shifting its base there, where the three hostile churches have comparatively less influence and the population is more receptive to a savior 215 218.

By the later Tarot Club gathering, the City of Silver has renewed its faith in him. His True Sun God name also allows missionaries to present the faith as a variation of worship of the Eternal Blazing Sun, spreading toward Intis while exploiting that god’s severe contamination by God Almighty 241.

Honorific Name

The prayer used in the Backlund descent addresses him as follows 210:

The Lord that Created Everything,
the Lord who Reigns Behind the Curtain of Shadows,
the Degenerate Nature of all Living Things.
