  • Inherited trait: According to Azik’s explanation to Steven, Priscilla inherited a dangerous trait from her mother at birth and required guidance to avoid future misfortune 101.
  • Digestion work: Despite already being Sequence 5, she practices lower-Sequence roles, including collecting remains and properly reburying the dead 173 176 332.
  • Advancement goal: Medici’s group claims that its nighttime activities will help her reach demigod status sooner. No completed advancement beyond Sequence 5 is documented in the supplied passages 327 332.

Background / History

Family and Life in Tingen

Priscilla’s father, Steven Green, is a dentist from Loen who met her mother while living in West Balam. After her mother’s death, Steven returned to Loen with Priscilla. Their frequent moves left her with few opportunities to make friends. Steven initially described his wife as having died after suddenly falling gravely ill; during Priscilla’s later abduction, he identified the Numinous Episcopate as responsible for her death 58 67.

The family settled at No. 4 Tulip Street, next door to Edward. Priscilla insisted on meeting their new neighbor and brought him a cake Steven had baked. Edward produced a flower from behind her ear, delighting her. She later persuaded her father to invite Edward to dinner and became particularly attached to his cat, Lilith 43 58.

Abduction and Azik’s Protection

The Numinous Episcopate abducted Priscilla, apparently because of her mother’s origins. During its ritual, a white feather merged into her body, her pupils turned black, and multiple pairs of wings began to materialize behind her. The participants proclaimed the return of their god 67 68.

Azik sensed familiar power and a blood connection, interrupted the ritual, and caught Priscilla as her wings disappeared. He clarified that Death had not resurrected inside her: without his intervention, she would have lost control and become a monster. Although his damaged memories initially prevented him from confirming their relationship, he later introduced himself to Steven as an elder of his wife’s family 68 69 101.

Priscilla subsequently accompanied Azik for guidance. Steven accepted the arrangement but suffered intense guilt over being unable to protect her or remain beside her. He later moved to Backlund, where he planned to establish a new dental clinic 101 144.

A later account identifies Ince Zangwill as the arranger of the events that endangered her, including a meteorite incident and the Numinous Episcopate’s attack. Azik’s special intervention saved her life, giving him a personal grievance against Ince 729.

Joining the Tarot Club

When Klein approached her as Mr. Fool, Priscilla initially tried to summon Azik’s skeletal messenger. She then abruptly adopted a respectful manner, surprising Klein, who realized that her earlier behavior had been an act convincing enough to fool his Spirit Vision 171.

She joined the Tarot Club, selected the Death card, and asked Mr. Fool to keep her membership secret from Edward so she could surprise him. Edward nevertheless recognized her at her first gathering from her apparent age, familiar presence, and association with the Corpse Collector Pathway 171 172.

During the gathering, she asked how someone already at Sequence 5 could digest the lower-Sequence potions they had skipped. This prompted Edward’s realization about her unusually rapid advancement 173.

Housing Medici’s Group

Medici and the two other evil spirits attempted to hide within Priscilla after escaping their previous confinement. A Gate to the Underworld mark flashed on her forehead, and the spirits discovered that they had become the trapped party. Priscilla subsequently described them as spirits housed in her internal Underworld and subordinate to her 200 201 207.

Azik initially judged the arrangement safe enough, but the spirits later began controlling her body while she slept. Priscilla sought the Tarot Club’s help after waking to discover that they had sometimes taken her outside Backlund. Edward accepted her investigation commission for £200 208 327.

Medici maintained that these excursions served two goals: securing the spirits’ freedom and accelerating Priscilla’s advancement. He also assumed the identity of Miss D while controlling her body, involving her in Aurora Order affairs 332 348.

Aurora Order Leadership and Gathering Host

After Mr. A disappeared, the spirits within Priscilla took over the Backlund Aurora Order. She argued that, since they had to listen to her, the organization effectively answered to her as well. She offered to mobilize its members to investigate on Audrey’s behalf and announced that she would inherit Mr. A’s Beyonder gatherings 405.

Her influence also supplied a lead on Ince Zangwill: she reported that he had approached the Aurora Order in Feysac about a collaboration and disappeared after being rejected. She arranged for the local person in charge to try contacting him again 461.

Priscilla was anxious about attendance at her first gathering. As part of a £300 agreement to help Fors, she asked Fors to bring more guests so Medici’s group would not laugh at a poor turnout. Her preparations initially left the venue in chaos, but the gathering ultimately retained Mr. A’s former rules, with Priscilla replacing him as host 462 482 504.

Travels and Unexplained Dreams

Priscilla traveled with Azik and Medici, eventually reaching Bansy’s Telegraph Office. When a woman there assumed her Mythical Creature Form, Priscilla hid behind Azik. The group discovered that the distorted space prevented Azik from leaving through the Spirit World 430 454 455.

Later, she reported recurring, indistinct dreams of an ancient mausoleum containing a coiled monster, a field of flowers beneath a star-filled sky, and a vast ruined city. Medici denied causing them but appeared to know more than he would explain. Audrey’s psychiatric investigation found no clues 619 664.

While Azik was absent and unreachable by messenger, Lilith reassured Priscilla that he was undertaking something important. She suggested that the dreams might result from their bloodline’s mystical connection. Their frequency subsequently diminished, and Azik eventually returned 664 726.

The Evernight Goddess’s Consciousness

Amanises later spoke through Priscilla’s body. She explained that this was not a fresh descent: a portion of her consciousness had remained dormant inside Priscilla since the Numinous Episcopate used the Artificial God of Death’s power in its ritual 749.

When Priscilla regained awareness, she was confused by her unfamiliar surroundings and the absence of Medici’s group. Learning that the spirits were free, she expressed relief rather than resentment, explaining that she had long wanted them to escape the confinement that prevented them from pursuing their own lives 758.

Edward confirmed that he had also removed the Evernight Goddess’s consciousness. He and Lilith then returned Priscilla to Azik’s home, where she bade Edward farewell until the next Tarot Club gathering 758 759.

Appearance

  • Features: A small girl with delicate features and black hair; initially described as resembling an exquisite porcelain doll 68 138.
  • Early clothing: Princess dresses, with her long hair tied into small tufts 138.
  • After leaving with Azik: Cropped hair and an all-black outfit consisting of a shirt, trousers, and shoes. She still occasionally wears princess dresses, including one with a hat covering her short hair 138 144.
  • Later hairstyle: Her hair grows to approximately ear length 430 454.
  • Underworld mark: A mark representing the Gate to the Underworld appears on her forehead when the spirits within her become active or emerge 200 332.

Personality

Priscilla is affectionate, sociable, and openly enthusiastic about her friends. Despite losing her mother, she maintains that her mother would be happy to see her enjoying life. Her fondness for cats and dogs is especially visible in her attachment to Lilith 58.

After beginning life with Azik, she becomes markedly more composed and matter-of-fact around death. Edward notices that her speech no longer carries her former shyness, although playing with Lilith brings back her earlier manner. He initially wonders whether the ritual caused the change and later connects it to her unusual advancement 138 173.

Her maturity is uneven rather than absolute. She listens quietly to difficult Tarot Club discussions without interrupting, yet demands entertaining bedtime stories from three ancient spirits and worries that they will mock her if too few guests attend her gathering 173 332 462.

She is fiercely loyal to those she considers friends. Her faith in the Tarot Club leads her to assume that its members are good people and that anyone they place a bounty on must be a villain. At the same time, she shows genuine concern for Medici despite their quarrels, asking what is wrong when he breaks into distressed laughter and rejoicing when he finally gains his freedom 714 717 758.

Abilities & Skills

Gatekeeper and Internal Underworld

Priscilla’s confirmed rank is Sequence 5 Gatekeeper. Her defining demonstrated ability is an internal Underworld that accommodates spirits 207 462.

  • Houses Medici and his two fellow evil spirits under an initially subordinate relationship 207 208.
  • Allows Medici to emerge through the Underworld Gate mark on her forehead 332.
  • Does not provide complete control over their actions: the spirits can take over her body while she sleeps, relinquishing control when she wakes 327.
  • The spirits’ former angelic standing does not make Priscilla herself an angel. Azik distinguishes their high level of existence from the Beyonder characteristics they have already lost 208.

Corpse Collection and Burial

Priscilla performs mortuary work as part of her lower-Sequence acting and potion digestion 176 332.

  • Places a deceased woman in a body bag, carries the body one-handed, and buries her with Edward’s assistance 138.
  • Collects feathers representing one of a departed individual’s deaths, treating their burial as a Corpse Collector’s duty 176.
  • Exhumes people hastily buried outside Backlund, moves them to proper cemeteries, and erects tombstones 332.
  • Offers a funerary prayer invoking the Evernight Goddess 138.

Support Through Accommodated Spirits

While Medici’s group remains inside her, Priscilla can call on assistance far beyond her own Sequence 5 standing 208 470.

  • Serves as the safety reserve during an operation with Audrey, Fors, and Xio, leaving the others to gain practical combat experience 470.
  • Can ask the spirits to appear or intervene, though their cooperation is frequently accompanied by arguments 208 470.
  • Loses this particular source of assistance when the spirits are freed 758.

Leadership and Information Gathering

Priscilla’s authority over the Backlund Aurora Order rests on its takeover by the spirits she accommodates 405.

  • Offers to assign members to investigations and obtains information through the organization’s overseas contacts 405 461.
  • Takes over the hosting of Mr. A’s Beyonder gatherings 405 504.
  • Shows greater confidence in issuing orders than in practical organization: her direction of the venue’s cleanup initially produces confusion 482.
