Background / History
Shi Qingyun was originally a nineteen-year-old university student on Blue Star. After watching an episode of the Perfect World anime and going to sleep in his dormitory, he awoke as a one-and-a-half-year-old child. He became Shi Qingfeng’s younger brother, a person he believed had not existed in the original story. His transmigration improved his physical aptitude and comprehension, but supplied no heaven-defying cheat 1.
Within days of arriving, he slipped away from his maid and witnessed Shi Ziling confronting the manor over the transplantation of Shi Hao’s Supreme Bone into Shi Yi. A spear carrying an impaled woman nearly killed him. Recognizing the scene confirmed which world he had entered, while seeing the infant Shi Hao reassured him that he still had time to grow stronger 1.
After he fainted near the battle, his silence and inability to speak the local language were mistaken for injury from its aftershocks. His grandfather left him in Martial King Manor for treatment and protection, taking Shi Qingfeng to the Second Ancestral Land. Qingyun subsequently learned the language, studied runes, and spent more than four years laying his physical foundation 1.
As a member of Shi Hao’s branch, he lived under the protection of sympathetic ancestral elders while Shi Yi’s faction increasingly suppressed their rivals. He expected retaliation once the Rain Clan discovered that the child watched in the Second Ancestral Land was Shi Qingfeng rather than Shi Hao, and began considering an escape route 2.
Appearance
His medicinal baptism transforms him from a small child into a taller, slender boy whose remaining baby fat still reveals his youth 6.
- Hair and eyes: Black hair hanging down on either side of his face and large, dark eyes compared to stars 6.
- Face: Thick, crescent-shaped brows, a straight nose, and a delicate, handsome face 6.
- Build and skin: Smoothly defined muscles and fair skin compared to mutton-fat jade 6.
- Clothing: Initially wears white clothes supplied after his baptism; later manifests a crimson outfit with a long waist sash after absorbing a blood pool 6 13.
- Dao Body manifestation: On completing his transformation, his left eye becomes abyss-black and his right eye blazing white, with a Taiji Dao Diagram behind him 17.
Personality
Qingyun is cautious, observant, and keenly aware of his limitations. He recognizes the manor children’s provocations as an attempt to make him violate clan rules, avoids revealing unnecessary strength, and delays confronting stronger secret-realm prodigies until he can improve his cultivation. When obtaining help with artifact forging, he refuses to expose materials valuable enough to attract pursuit from the Upper Realm 2 8 14 48.
His caution does not prevent him from fighting decisively. He prepares to resist an intruder even while believing victory impossible, remains composed after killing the Azure Luan clansmen, and treats lethal conflict as an expected part of cultivation. Against the Beast King, that resolve becomes a willingness to continue despite broken bones 9 13 27.
He distinguishes gratitude from indiscriminate kindness. He declines to rescue enemies in the Death Swamp, yet repeatedly protects Yu Tian because the latter’s disturbance interrupted a dangerous near-dissolution into the Dao. He also appreciates Fourth Grandfather’s concealed protection rather than resenting his apparent absence 9 19 21 23.
Despite his mature bearing, he has a humorous and self-conscious side: he privately mocks clan schemes, becomes embarrassed by sustained praise, and is visibly unsettled by the Witch’s teasing 2 28 47 48.
Abilities & Skills
Taiji Boxing and Yin-Yang Cultivation
Qingyun develops his foundational boxing from the Taiji he learned at university, adapting it through his enhanced comprehension 1.
- Draws yin-yang qi into his body to refine blood, bones, resilience, and strength 5.
- Helps him control the sudden physical gains produced by baptism and settle his mind 7.
- Produces Taiji diagrams and controlled manifestations of blazing yang power and corrosive yin water 7.
- Its early air distortions only resemble spatial disturbance; at that stage, he cannot actually shake space 7.
Yin-Yang Dao Body
Qingyun creates this constitution by balancing life and death energy and breaking the rules that restrain his body’s potential 17.
- Raises his one-arm strength to 129,600 jin, exceeding the Blood Moving Realm’s normal limit 16 17.
- Assists Dao comprehension even while walking, sitting, or lying down 18.
- Brings rune-based precious techniques associated with his paired cave heavens 20.
- Develops toward minor mastery as he manifests four opposing-power chains 41.
- Does not yet make him capable of safely enduring chaos qi: a small amount produced by yin-yang collision nearly dispersed his consciousness 20.
Sun and Moon Seals
He comprehends the Sun and Moon Seal from the Heavenly Roc bone selected in the Merit-Storage Pavilion 8 13.
- Uses the Moon Seal to ambush an Azure Luan youth and the paired seals against another clansman’s Lifeless Flying Wings 12.
- Wields the seals as close-range cutting attacks during repeated ambushes on Primordial Divine Mountain forces 14.
- Combines them into an enormous black-and-white Dao diagram while fighting through the Starfall Mountain Range’s beast tide 23.
- Transforms the Moon Seal into a pitch-black longsword while approaching the Azure Flame 49.
Cave Heaven Techniques
His Yin-Yang Cave Heavens absorb worldly essence to replenish divine power and can nurture stored treasures 18 21.
- Lunar rune ring: Uses his lunar cave heaven as a medium to trap Yin Tianzong, his companion, and the Nine-Handed Yin Beast in freezing energy, then reduces all three to dust 20.
- Environmental resonance: His yin power connects with the Death Swamp’s existing cold and death energy. The resulting lethal landscape is not something he could create through his own strength alone 20.
- Protective use: Employs his cave heavens and divine power to resist the rift’s violent winds and freezing mist 29.
- Development limit: At the time of the Death Swamp battle, his lunar technique remains crude; releasing it without the cave heaven as a medium is a future goal, not an achieved ability 20.
Rune Weapons
Qingyun condenses runes and divine power into weapons rather than relying solely on physical equipment 26 45.
- Black-and-White Rune Swords: Paired blades used against the Beast King and Shi Yi 26 35.
- Flame-enhanced white sword: Channels reddish-white flame into the blade and releases a burning slash 36.
- Black spear: Creates and enlarges a rune spear during the Golden Lotus operation 45.
- Limit: His swords can crack or shatter under stronger attacks; Shi Yi also uses his Double Pupils to locate and exploit a flaw in the white sword 35 36 37.
Movement Techniques
Yin-yang power greatly increases his speed, allowing him to cross difficult terrain and outpace fellow cultivators 13 21.
- Eight Directions Step: Elusive footwork used to catch Yu Tian after he flees the beast tide 23.
- Reverse Eight Directions Step / Limit Break: Pushes his speed further during the finishing exchange with the Beast King 27.
- Extreme Speed: Closes the distance to the Beast King before its defenses can fully respond 26.
- Aerial support: Forms intangible yin-yang stairs and remains aloft through his own methods, but initially lacks the ordinary flight of a Spirit Transformation cultivator 18.
Formations
Qingyun practices formations during his forest travels, gradually improving their reliability and his options against enemies 43.
- Deploys a large pentagram formation that binds a beast with chains and rains down golden spears 45.
- Uses the formation to occupy the beast while he withdraws from the battlefield 45.
- His early practice remains imperfect: Dao patterns sometimes collapse before connecting 43.
Perception and Specialized Techniques
- Enhanced senses: Treasure-pool absorption sharpens his five senses and intuition; opponents later appear extremely slow to him 13 14.
- Spiritual detection: Detects hidden attacking beasts during his journey with Little White 43.
- Tracing the Source: Examines Little White’s shattered golden runes and damaged Qilin Precious Technique 40.
- Echo: Tests the technique unsuccessfully; it injures him before its gray thread dissolves into black mist 43.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Black fan — His first weapon, gifted by Fourth Grandfather. He practices with its weight, kills an Azure Luan clansman with it, and uses it against Shi Yi. During forging, it develops markings and a small black hole that devours violet fire 10 12 37 49.
- Jade pendant — Contains one attack from Fourth Grandfather, powerful enough to threaten an Inscription Realm cultivator but usable only once 10.
- Protective robe — Another gift from Fourth Grandfather; destroyed by the Death Swamp’s corrosive mist 10 16.
- Storage ring — Gifted by Fourth Grandfather, with modest capacity sufficient for his early needs 10.
- Looted storage pouch — Taken from an Azure Luan clansman and used to gather treasure liquid. Initially bound through blood and qi, then secured with a Cave Heaven Realm law rune 13 18.
- Heavenly Roc Talisman Bone — Contains a trace of Kunpeng’s bloodline. Chosen for its compatibility with his yin-yang path; the pavilion elder believes the worn bone may withstand only one more comprehension attempt 8.
- Beast-hide treasure map — Looted from the Azure Luan clansmen and used to locate blood pools. Later destroyed with other storage treasures, though he remembers its dangerous blood-red-wing marking 13 20.
- Bone fragment — Opens into visions of an ancient conflict when supplied with divine power; afterward changes from black to snow-white and becomes extraordinarily heavy 41 42.
- Immortal bone — Refines it in the Azure Flame beneath Godfall Mountain, then combines its molten material with the black fan to begin forging a weapon 49.
Relationships
- Shi Qingfeng — Older brother, taken to the Second Ancestral Land while Qingyun remains in Martial King Manor 1.
- His grandfather — Leaves Qingyun behind to preserve at least one grandson’s safety and entrusts his care to an old friend 1 9.
- Fourth Grandfather / Fourth Granduncle — His grandfather’s friend and Qingyun’s concealed protector. Warns him about factional danger and equips him for the Qilin Cave expedition 9 10.
- Shi Hao — Qingyun belongs to his clan branch and recognizes him as the future Desolate Heaven Emperor; no developed personal relationship is shown in the supplied chapters 1 2.
- Shi Yi — Rival from the opposing faction. Ambushes Qingyun at the Dao Platform and loses their initial fight before unleashing further Double Pupils power 35 37.
- Shi Long — Clan bully whose attempt to injure Qingyun and seize his resources ends in defeat 2 3 4.
- Shi Feier — Cheerful admirer who befriends him after the sparring match and informs him about attempts to cut his cultivation resources 4.
- Yu Tian — Rain King Mansion prodigy whom Qingyun rescues and travels with. Yu Tian had been sent partly to find a chance to kill him, but recoils from repaying rescue with betrayal 21 22.
- Little White / Xiaobai — Black creature Qingyun names, feeds, and takes along on his travels. Its damaged runes suggest a connection to the Qilin Precious Technique, and its runes later help him melt the immortal bone 40 43 49.
- Jin Wanwan — Fellow survivor of the beast tide who admires Qingyun’s strength and hopes he remains safe after leaving alone 27 28.
- Yuan Sheng — Temporary battlefield ally whose initial wariness gives way to gratitude and envy of Qingyun’s strength and freedom 27 28.
- War Goddess — Deer-Chasing Academy’s senior sister; cooperates with him to obtain the Golden Lotus and recruits him into the academy 44 45 46.
- Witch / Wan Muyun — Teasing acquaintance who offers friendship and directs him to Godfall Mountain for private artifact forging 47 48.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Martial King Manor
- Accepts Shi Long’s formal sparring challenge rather than falling into a private-fighting trap, defeats him, and becomes known among the manor’s younger generation 2 3 4.
- Learns that Shi Long’s father tried to reduce his cultivation allocation but was stopped by the Martial King 4.
- Completes baptism, selects the Heavenly Roc bone, and receives Fourth Grandfather’s warning that his talent has made the opposing faction uneasy 6 8 9.
- Joins the Qilin Cave expedition after the Martial King approves his inclusion, departing with Shi Yi and the other manor youths 10.
Qilin Secret Realm and the Death Swamp
- Kills two Azure Luan clansmen guarding a treasure pool, obtains their map and storage treasure, and gathers liquid from numerous pools to fuel his constitutional transformation 12 13.
- Attacks Primordial Divine Mountain forces pursuing manor disciples, then heads toward the Death Swamp’s hidden life energy 14 15.
- Survives the swamp’s corrosive mist long enough to reach the Blood Pool, where he heals, exceeds the Blood Moving Realm limit, and creates his Yin-Yang Dao Body 16 17.
- Enters the Cave Heaven Realm and kills Yin Tianzong, his companion, and the Nine-Handed Yin Beast after the fleeing cultivators try to draw him into their pursuit 18 19 20.
Starfall Mountain Range
- Rescues Yu Tian and follows reports of a disturbance and a planned ambush on Shi Yi into the mountain range 21 22.
- Fights through the beast tide, kills its Beast King, and displays the severed head to force the remaining horde to retreat 23 26 27.
- Leaves the survivors to investigate a rift alone, finding a nine-tiered Dao Platform whose runes do not suit his chosen path 28 29.
- Discovers a black egg whose fluctuations activate formations that drain life throughout the secret realm. Its transparent shell reveals a wounded cub consumed by black mist, which Qingyun suspects is a qilin 32 33.
- Fights Shi Yi after being blamed for triggering the formations. Qingyun disarms him and lands the decisive kick, but the confrontation remains unsettled as Shi Yi breaks the restraints on his enormous eye 35 37.
Little White and Deer-Chasing Academy
- Names his black companion Little White, studies its damaged runes, and deepens his yin-yang cultivation beside it 40.
- Activates a bone fragment and witnesses an ancient pursuit involving a wounded white-robed youth, a damaged compass, and a five-colored egg suffering from a spreading black wound 41 42.
- Travels through the forest while practicing formations, then encounters the War Goddess and cooperates with her to obtain the Golden Lotus 43 44 45.
- Uses the lotus’s benefits to help Little White recover and accepts the War Goddess’s invitation to Deer-Chasing Academy, replacing his earlier plan to head to Heaven Mending Pavilion 46.
Godfall Mountain Forging
- Befriends the Witch in the Stone Kingdom Imperial Capital and asks for a place where he can forge without revealing his precious materials 47 48.
- Descends beneath Godfall Mountain’s magma to a black Dao Platform and attempts to melt an immortal bone in the Azure Flame 48 49.
- Little White’s runes turn the flame violet, allowing the bone to melt. Qingyun introduces the black fan into the molten material, but its unexpected consumption of the fire threatens the already cracked platform; the forging outcome is not shown 49.
