Upbringing in the Netherworld Palace

Bai Youyou was raised by the woman who became her master, the former Netherworld Palace Master. Her childhood was sheltered: she had few friends, her master restricted contact with outsiders, and even browsing market stalls was forbidden when they traveled together. She recalled spending entire afternoons throwing stones into a mountain stream, which she once considered the extent of the world’s pleasures 274 275 335.

Her talent brought rapid advancement. Although she entered the palace ten years after Nan Ji, she caught up with Nan Ji’s cultivation in less than three years. Her access to the best cultivation techniques, mastery of A Thought, Flowers Bloom, and appointment as Saintess became sources of Nan Ji’s resentment 332.

Her lineage also carried an unresolved connection to the Dragon Clan. Her Grand Grandmaster, Liu Niang, had practiced medicine in a seaside town while waiting for the Purple Sky Dragon King to return. Bai Youyou’s grandmother-master entrusted her with a seashell and asked her, should she ever reach the Dragon Palace, to ask why he had never come back 295 304.

Heavenly Revelation Secret Realm

At an altar bearing the Nine Nether Emperor’s Order, Bai Youyou wondered whether Lin Shisan was someone chosen by fate 194.

When Lin Shisan faced the Eye of Rules and a devouring black hole, she advanced toward him rather than retreating with the other cultivators. White petals formed a barrier against the warped space, allowing her to continue despite existing injuries and the danger of erasure. Netherworld Palace disciples tried unsuccessfully to stop her 230 231 242.

She later explained that she wanted to investigate the connection between her lineage and the person who had apparently taught Lin Shisan A Thought, Flowers Bloom. Unknown to her, Gai Jiuyou had performed the technique through his body 324.

Life and Marriage in Little Fishing Village

The Old Zhou Household rescued Bai Youyou and Lin Shisan. While he had genuinely lost his memories, she retained hers and pretended otherwise. Her rib injuries healed more slowly than his, and she initially spent much of her time sitting quietly by the sea 233 234 238 242.

Over three months, they grew close. She accompanied him and Little Stone to the shore and carefully kept his small gifts beneath her pillow. After Little Stone suggested they marry, both agreed to the old woman’s proposal, and the villagers arranged a modest wedding 233 234.

Their first wedding night was interrupted. Bai Youyou later told Lin Shisan that he still owed her a complete wedding night, which they shared before her planned departure from the Dragon Palace 254.

Little Stone and the Dragon Palace

Bai Youyou helped Lin Shisan confront the Python Demon and rescue Little Stone, using a jade pendant to shield them from water spears despite her incomplete recovery. She then accompanied them beneath the sea to the Purple Sky Dragon Palace 238 242.

Lin Shisan’s discovery that she had concealed her memories created distance between them. Bai Youyou promised to explain her actions when they returned and assured him that she was neither his enemy nor someone who would harm him 242 245.

When masked intruders targeted Little Stone, she fought to protect him but could not prevent them from destroying his False Spirit Pearl. Her weakened spiritual power was also insufficient to stop the Python Demon’s remnant soul from consuming his divine sense 248 249.

The Dragon King made Little Stone’s rescue conditional on Lin Shisan divorcing Bai Youyou and marrying Zi Yuner. Bai Youyou initially challenged the arrangement, then urged Lin Shisan to accept it to save the child. She approached Zi Yuner herself and agreed to step aside without blaming her for her father’s demands 252 253.

Return Through Blackwater River

After returning Little Stone to his grandparents, Bai Youyou secretly planted a Dao Seed embryo in his dantian. She then traveled to Blackwater River and compelled Hei Feng, the Python Demon’s remnant soul, to reveal an abandoned route into the Dragon Palace 257.

Despite limited formation training, she spent three days and nights repairing the unstable teleportation array. Its energy reserves allowed only one one-way journey, and failure could expose her to lethal spatial turbulence. She nevertheless used it to return for Lin Shisan 258 263.

The array delivered her into Zi Tianya’s residence, where she was captured and later displayed beside the Life-and-Death Platform. Afterward, she firmly rejected Lin Shisan’s suggestion that they had divorced: they had performed the wedding bows and had never dissolved their marriage 269 273.

During a quieter interval, she explored the Dragon Palace with him, bought coral beads, and played with merfolk children. She subsequently reached the Yellow Dragon Realm while he studied the Wordless Fragmentary Sutra 274 275 277.

Near-Death Encounter with the Dragon King

Bai Youyou later left a letter saying she would return to the Netherworld Palace, visit Lin Shisan’s master, and look after Long Yan’er. Nevertheless, she activated the Blackwater River array a second time to return to the Dragon Palace. The collapsing passage reopened her injuries and shattered Hei Feng’s remnant soul 283 285.

The Purple Sky Dragon King attacked her, believing her presence threatened Zi Yuner’s relationship with Lin Shisan. Bai Youyou insisted that she only wanted to know whether Lin Shisan was well. Refusing to surrender her dignity, she asked to die standing 289.

Her final use of A Thought, Flowers Bloom caused the king to recognize the inheritance of his long-separated human wife. He saved Bai Youyou and treated her in a secret chamber with Dragon Breath Power. There, she identified her Grand Grandmaster and delivered the question entrusted to her lineage: why had he never returned? 294 295.

After the king’s death, his letter directed Lin Shisan to her chamber. They reunited in tears, and Lin Shisan assured her that he had already chosen her while still acknowledging his promise to Zi Yuner 303.

Return to Land

Following Zi Ning’s pursuit, Bai Youyou, Lin Shisan, and Zi Yuner lived together for more than a year in an isolated Secret Realm. Their daily life included cultivation, fishing, shared meals, and increasingly open affection 305 307 308.

They eventually returned to Cold Moon Peak, where Lin Shisan introduced both women as his wives to Feng Xian’er. Bai Youyou helped smooth the reunion and later prepared varied spirit cuisine to support his cultivation 315 321.

Succession as Acting Palace Master

After Nan Ji reported that her master’s old injuries had worsened, Bai Youyou returned to the Netherworld Palace. She intended to relinquish the Saintess position, whose rules prohibited marriage, partners, and children, and investigate her lineage’s connection to Lin Shisan’s mysterious teacher 324.

Instead, she was imprisoned, tortured, and robbed of memory fragments. Lin Shisan and Zi Yuner rescued her and restored those fragments. Nan Ji confessed that jealousy over Bai Youyou’s talent and position had driven her actions, then destroyed herself. Her final message revealed that Bai Youyou’s master was also imprisoned and had only two days to live 331 332.

Bai Youyou helped locate her master in the palace’s underground labyrinth. After the internal conflict devastated the sect, her dying master asked her to remain as acting Palace Master until the palace recovered and a suitable successor could take over. Bai Youyou accepted, promising to restore its dignity and lead its surviving disciples 333 335.

Following her master’s death, she remained to tend the mourning shelter and begin that work. Lin Shisan and Zi Yuner departed, with the expectation that they would reunite 335 336.

Bai Youyou is outwardly reserved and composed. At formal gatherings, she presents the cold, taciturn demeanor expected of the Netherworld Palace’s Saintess. In private, she becomes playful, affectionate, and occasionally jealous, particularly when teasing Lin Shisan about his romantic entanglements 274 307 322.

Her affection is expressed through both small gestures and dangerous commitments. She treasures inexpensive gifts, protects Little Stone, and repeatedly risks unstable teleportation to reach Lin Shisan. When saving Little Stone appears to require surrendering her marriage, she places the child’s survival first without treating Zi Yuner as an enemy 233 253 257 263.

She also values independence and dignity. She explicitly rejects the idea that she needs a husband to survive and refuses to meet death submissively before the Dragon King. After her master dies, she restrains her grief long enough to accept responsibility for the shattered Netherworld Palace 253 289 335.

Beneath that restraint is considerable curiosity. Her delight in coral, carvings, market stalls, and children’s games emerges once she can explore without her master’s restrictions or immediate danger.
