Zi Yuner grew up in the Dragon Palace in luxury but with little childhood companionship. Her mother was gone early, and her father frequently secluded himself. Her Third Aunt, Zi Ning, raised her, teaching her reading, spirit-medicine identification, cultivation, Dragon Clan bloodline patterns, and survival 259 325.

Zi Ning was imprisoned with Dragon-Sealing Locks after falling in love with a human, searching for him on land, and returning to accept punishment. After 227 years of her aunt's confinement, Zi Yuner still intended to inherit the Dragon King position specifically to free her. Her outward obedience to her father—including accepting his marriage arrangements—was tied to that goal 259.

Lin Shisan's Arrival and Marriage Arrangement

Before Lin Shisan entered the Dragon Palace, he saved Zi Yuner from the python demon Black Wind, who had been forcing her into marriage. Zi Tianya had secretly enabled her capture through his connection to the demon 269 328.

Zi Yuner escorted Lin Shisan, Bai Youyou, and Little Stone into the palace, warning Lin Shisan to hide his Hornless Dragon True Spirit from certain elders. She guided the visitors around the palace and arranged their accommodation while her father remained in seclusion 243 245 246.

Her father's demand that Lin Shisan marry her became the price of obtaining the Dragon Pearl's help for Little Stone. Bai Youyou agreed to step aside, but Zi Yuner promised she would never prevent the two from meeting. She also told Lin Shisan that marrying her did not require forgetting Bai Youyou or Fishing Village 253 256.

Zi Yuner understood that the marriage was also a means of keeping Lin Shisan's dragon spirit in the palace. Nevertheless, she initially accepted the arrangement without resisting her father 258.

Succession Struggle

Zi Yuner brought Lin Shisan to visit Zi Ning at Prisoner Dragon Ridge. Zi Ning later revealed that she had secretly planted a guiding influence in Zi Yuner's divine sense, making the visit appear to be her niece's independent decision 259 266.

When Zi Ning sought Lin Shisan's dragon spirit, Zi Yuner stood between them and declared that even her beloved aunt would have to fight her first. She then endured watching her father and aunt confront each other on the Life-and-Death Platform 267 268.

Working with Lin Shisan, Zi Yuner helped expose Zi Tianya's conspiracy. She struck through his protective membrane at the convergence of his Spirit Veins and activated a Spirit-Locking Seal. The python demon's residual memories had supplied the evidence against him 270 271.

Zi Yuner subsequently ascended as Dragon King. After Mo Jiao trapped her, Lin Shisan, and Bai Youyou in a chamber, she helped lure him within reach and cut Bai Youyou's restraints while Lin Shisan killed him 278 279 286.

Protecting the Dragon Lord

As ruler, Zi Yuner sought the Grand Supreme Elder Zi Gang's intervention against her father's attempts to harm Lin Shisan. She argued that attacking her Dragon Lord would violate the palace's word, damage its reputation, and undermine her authority 284.

She also offered Lin Shisan safer quarters, helped secure cultivation access to Dragon Spirit Lake and the dragon vein, and arranged for the Dragon Vein Core's restrictions to be lifted for fifteen days. Despite wanting him to stay, she promised not to stop him from returning to land once she held real power 283 286 293.

When Lin Shisan chose to pursue his future rather than merely accept others' decisions, Zi Yuner agreed to choose alongside him. Before his planned departure, she gave him three Dragon Scale Fruits in a pouch tied with the Double-Ring Knot used by Dragon Clan women when sending their husbands on long journeys 292 298.

Zi Ning's Betrayal and Abdication

Zi Ning interrupted Lin Shisan's departure, restrained Zi Yuner, and demanded his dragon spirit. Even after he surrendered it, Zi Ning attempted to kill him. Zi Yuner burned her essence blood, broke free, shielded him, and reignited the Teleportation Array to send him away 298 299.

The ensuing crisis ended with Zi Yuner witnessing her father's spirit body dissipate. Zi Ning afterward promised to support her rule and suppressed opposition within the palace 302 303 304.

Zi Yuner nevertheless chose to relinquish the throne. She gave Zi Ning the Dragon King's Succession Scroll and accepted a reduction to early Sky Soaring so she could leave the palace and find Lin Shisan 306.

Life on Land and the Netherworld Palace

Zi Yuner joined Lin Shisan and Bai Youyou in a sealed wilderness, where they recovered, gathered food, and searched for an exit. After escaping through the Xiao Household Ancestral Mausoleum, she subdued the household's cultivators and returned with her companions toward Lin Shisan's home 306 307 313.

On land, she visited the Seven-Day Immortal tavern, learned more about Lin Shisan's former poverty, and later insisted on seeing his old servant-disciple courtyard. Her unfamiliarity with ordinary living conditions contrasted with her curiosity about his past 325 342.

At the Netherworld Palace, she and Lin Shisan entered a soul-confusing formation while searching for Bai Youyou. With Lin Shisan identifying its weak point, Zi Yuner broke the formation and subsequently freed Bai Youyou from her chains 329 330 331.

A protective manifestation of Zi Yuner's father appeared during the palace's destruction. Believing briefly that he had faked his death, she attacked the ancestral hall in fury. She learned that the manifestation came from an old seed whose activation had exhausted his final remaining spiritual power. She kept the withered petal left behind and eventually accepted it as his last act of protection 334 335 336 341.

Nine Yang Pavilion and Recovery

At Nine Yang Pavilion, Zi Yuner protected Lin Shisan against Bai Ziyin and Qingxuan, both Sky Soaring Great Perfection cultivators. She released her suppressed cultivation and manifested dragon horns and scale armor, but the resulting curse inflicted mounting pain on her divine sense and drained her vitality 349 350 354.

Gai Jiuyou subsequently contested control of her body. Lin Shisan brought Zi Yuner to a secluded valley, where she recovered while struggling with alternating Dragon Clan spiritual power and demonic qi 355 356 359 360.

After Gai Jiuyou's soul form left her, the pain receded and Zi Yuner resumed cultivation. She reached Sky Soaring Great Perfection, while the spreading curse mark contracted into a rice-grain-sized purple dot 363 364.

Underground Palace and Arctic Snow Mountain

Zi Yuner helped Lin Shisan withstand Yue Wushuang's formations, shielding him while he analyzed their restrictions. She also helped seize the underground artifact and force open a dark-golden rift through which they escaped 365 366 367 369.

She later volunteered to accompany Lin Shisan into the Reincarnation Mirror. After Gai Jiuyou warned that entering alive would kill them at their current cultivation, Zi Yuner suggested seeking the Mountain Guardian instead 378 379.

At the guardian's grotto-heaven on Arctic Snow Mountain, she supported Lin Shisan's Lingxi Sword Art training. She suppressed her spiritual power to his Yellow Dragon Eighth Layer and supplied barriers and practice attacks to help him improve 379 381.
