In June 2017, Lu Chen maxed out his system stats after two years of deliberately keeping a low profile and decided it was time to become a professional starter. As his RNG academy contract neared its end, Rita offered him a casting job, but Lu Chen refused and declared he would become a legendary player.
Lu Chen told Rita he was the world's top LOL player, but she dismissed his boast. A week later, after Kid suffered a brutal loss to a mysterious player named Chen, Yu, he discovered the account had a 90% win rate and rushed off to investigate.
IG investigated Chen,Yu after Kid discovered his extraordinary ranked results, and the account soon climbed to number one on the Chinese server with an 85% win rate. As fans and professional teams took notice, IG grew desperate to contact him before a rival club could sign him.
Lu Chen revealed to Rita that he was the rank-one solo queue player Chen,Yu, after she worried that he would be dropped by RNG without a job. Rita confirmed his account and blushed when Lu Chen teased her about promising to be his girlfriend, leaving the two sharing an intimate moment.
Lu Chen ended his RNG contract and became a free agent after the club declined to renew it, while other teams struggled to contact the solo queue king Chen,Yu. He returned to Rita, who asked why he had not stayed with RNG.
Lu Chen explained why he had avoided joining RNG and revealed that he was aiming for IG. After Kid contacted him, IG offered him a lucrative contract, and they arranged a tryout that afternoon.
Lu Chen arrived at IG for a tryout after spending two years honing his skills, and joined the team following a crushing scrim loss to EDG. He prepared to make his competitive debut in the next two scrim games.
Lu Chen made his debut as IG’s new ADC in the second scrim against EDG, with IG drafting Caitlyn for him. The game began with Lu Chen determined to prove himself against iBoy.
Lu Chen's Caitlyn dominated the bot lane with precise spacing and aggressive pressure, then dodged EDG's gank and helped secure first blood on iBoy. The fight left Sejuani's attack missing and EDG's bot lane in danger.
Lu Chen dominated EDG with Caitlyn, turning a bot-lane gank into a kill and building an overwhelming lead that helped IG end the game at twenty minutes. Coach Mafa and Su Xiaoluo watched Lu Chen’s performance with excitement, convinced they had found a star.
After Lu Chen dominated EDG as Caitlyn in a scrim, EDG questioned IG’s ADC and chose to ban Caitlyn in the next game. Lu Chen then picked Draven into iBoy’s Ezreal, leaving EDG wary of the unfamiliar threat.
IG’s bot lane pressured EDG from the start, and Lu Chen’s Draven repeatedly dodged their attacks during Clearlove’s gank. The chapter ended with Draven and Baolan killing Clearlove for first blood.
Lu Chen’s Draven snowballed after killing Gragas and taking both buffs, forcing EDG’s bot lane under its turret. When EDG grouped to defend a stacked wave, Lu Chen and Baolan committed to a dive despite being outnumbered, and the chapter ended as Clearlove arrived to defend.
Lu Chen’s Draven helped IG’s dive kill iBoy and take first turret, leaving EDG’s bot lane far behind. After the teams swapped lanes, Scout saw Draven’s overwhelming items and wondered how EDG could play against him.
Lu Chen’s fed Draven overwhelmed Scout’s Cassiopeia, carrying IG through a dominant scrim win over EDG. The chapter ended with EDG surrendering after fifteen minutes and IG celebrating the easy victory.
After Lu Chen dominated two scrims against EDG, IG offered him a lucrative contract, and he joined the team on a six-month deal. The chapter ended with IG announcing the signing of Chen Yu on its official Weibo account.
After IG confirmed that Lu Chen, known online as Chen,Yu, had joined the team, fans and rival clubs reacted to the news. Lu Chen remained unaware of the online commotion and celebrated with IG’s players over hot pot.
Su Xiaoluo and Mafa discovered that Lu Chen had spent two years as an unused substitute on RNG’s youth team before joining IG, and they welcomed him into the club. After learning the training and streaming rules, Lu Chen started his first livestream with a self-deprecating title.
Lu Chen began streaming Ranked on the Korean server, drawing a huge audience eager to watch C God play. When viewers spotted that his account was named RNG Chen, they discovered he had once been an RNG academy substitute, and the chapter ended with fans flooding RNG’s social media to demand an explanation.
RNG discovered that Chen Yu, now on IG, was Lu Chen, a former youth-team substitute whose contract they had recently allowed to expire. Bai Xing raged over the lost player and insisted Chen Yu would fail in real matches when the Summer Split began.
After RNG confirmed ChenYu was the former youth-team player Chen, online debate over his departure faded as Lu Chen dominated Korean-server placement matches on stream. Rookie joined him in the training room, gifted him five Super Rockets, and asked him to carry IG to wins in the summer split.
Lu Chen finished his first livestream with a perfect 10-0 placement record, drawing huge attention and Super Rocket gifts from IG players. After lunch at the club, he went back to pack and told Rita he planned to buy a home with her once he had earned money playing professionally, leaving her resolved to work hard as a caster too.
Lu Chen reached number one on the Korean Server with an 86 percent win rate, drawing widespread attention to his skill and his move to IG. As the Summer Split approached, IG prepared for its opening matches against WE and IM, leaving Lu Chen eager to make his professional debut.
The Summer Split opened with OMG sweeping RNG 2-0, validating Lu Chen’s prediction and sparking debate about RNG’s decision to bench Uzi. At IG’s scrims, Lu Chen’s team then crushed Snake Esports and DAN across six games, leaving both opponents stunned by his ADC play.
After IG crushed six scrim games, Mafa believed Lu Chen had transformed the team and Su Xiaoluo looked ahead to their match against WE. At the venue for his first official LPL match, Lu Chen prepared to make his debut against the Spring Split champions.
