Background

Lumine and Aether were travelers from beyond Teyvat when they fought the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles and became separated. Aether awakened five hundred years before Lumine and eventually became the Abyss Order’s prince 119 448.

After awakening, Lumine went fishing to relieve her hunger and apparently rescued Paimon from the sea. Paimon became her guide and closest companion during the search for Aether. This meeting was later revealed to have been arranged by Paimon, who wanted an outsider beyond Irminsul’s monitoring to help her gather allies against the Heavenly Principles 452 453.

Appearance

• Hair: Short and golden 277.
• General appearance: Xiangling describes her as a beautiful blonde girl 35.
• Clothing: Her attire immediately marks her as a foreign visitor when she first meets Yucheng in Liyue 37.

Personality

Lumine is courteous but cautious with strangers. She apologizes after Paimon collides with Yucheng, stops Paimon from giving a newly met acquaintance a rude nickname, and only gradually relaxes after learning that Yucheng is Xiangling’s friend. Even later, his suspicious arrival at the Golden House makes her question whether he is an ally 37 45.

She is perceptive without being intrusive. After witnessing Yucheng’s clones, she recognizes that his explanation leaves things unsaid but decides not to pry. In Sumeru, she sees through his damaged-ship excuse yet avoids exposing him because it concerns relations between nations 65 278.

Her affection for Paimon often takes the form of indulgence and teasing. She protects Paimon’s dignity in front of strangers, conceals Alfonso’s identity to spare her a cruel truth, and later jokes about giving her away as a wedding present 37 284 403.

Lumine repeatedly puts herself at risk for others, from interrupting Thoma’s Vision confiscation to helping rescue Nahida. Nevertheless, she learns from overwhelming opponents: her experience against Ei makes her reluctant to enter another Archon’s sanctuary uninvited 95 278 320 333.

• Aether — Older brother and the central object of her search. Their reunion exposes a disagreement over using Abyssal power against the Heavenly Principles; Lumine warns that doing so on a large scale could destroy Teyvat 448 453.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Mondstadt and Arrival in Liyue

Before her direct appearance, Lumine has already helped resolve Mondstadt’s Stormterror crisis and earned the title of Honorary Knight. Xiangling also recounts their cooking competition and the rescue of Olaf, a hunter frozen for three hundred years 35.

Following Venti’s advice, Lumine and Paimon reach Liyue in time for the Rite of Descension. They meet Yucheng on the way into the harbor and join him for lunch at Wanmin Restaurant before attending the ceremony 37 38.

Rex Lapis’s Apparent Death

When Rex Lapis apparently dies during the ceremony, the Millelith seal Yujing Terrace. Tartaglia helps Lumine’s group escape and sends them toward the adepti with an imitation Sigil of Permission. Lumine subsequently helps Zhongli prepare the Rite of Parting 38 40.

At the Golden House, she confronts Tartaglia over the Exuvia and fights alongside Yucheng. After Yucheng saves her from the collapsing floor, she supports his attacks and avoids direct clashes until Foul Legacy’s strain overwhelms Tartaglia 45 46.

Inazuma and the Vision Hunt Decree

After winning Beidou’s tournament, Lumine sails for Inazuma with Paimon and Yucheng. Travel restrictions leave her dependent on Thoma’s assistance in Ritou, and he later introduces her to the situation surrounding the confiscated Visions 72 74 83.

Lumine interrupts Thoma’s Vision confiscation and is drawn into the Plane of Euthymia with Yucheng. Ei overwhelms her, leaving Yucheng to protect her while the confrontation escalates. Later, she joins the effort to reach Ei in Makoto’s Consciousness Space 95 96 119.

Aranyaka and Vimara Village

A rescue on the road to Sumeru develops into a rainforest crisis involving the Aranara. Lumine helps save the rainforest, but her achievement is known only to the Aranara rather than Sumeru’s human population 277.

Returning to Vimara Village, she exposes Alfonso as Trofim Snezhnevich, a Fatui operative linked to the missing children. She hands him over to Yucheng and keeps his identity from Paimon 279 280 284.

Sabzeruz Festival and the Rescue of Nahida

While seeking an audience with Lesser Lord Kusanali, Lumine becomes involved in efforts to preserve Dunyarzad’s Sabzeruz Festival. Repeated déjà vu leads her to investigate, and Nahida reveals that the festival has already occurred countless times 278 298 306.

After the loop ends, Lumine shares her discoveries about the Akademiya’s God Project with the group assembled at Aaru Village. Their common objective becomes stopping the Sages and rescuing Nahida 313 320 333.

Battle Against Shouki no Kami

Lumine serves as the principal fighter against Scaramouche’s god-powered Mecha. Her initial efforts fail against its mobility, elemental attacks, and armor, but the apparent defeat is revealed to be part of Nahida’s dream-battle preparations 335 336.

With memories of 152 battles restored, she counters Scaramouche far more effectively while Nahida’s device attacks his weak mental defenses. Scaramouche changes tactics by separating Lumine from Nahida and targeting the Archon directly 336.

Later Travels and Yucheng’s Wedding

After Sumeru’s upheaval, Lumine spends two days gathering guests for Nilou’s victory banquet. She later explores the desert’s ruins, searches for the Eternal Oasis, and undertakes trials connected to the Sign of Apaosha 359 394.

Returning to Inazuma for Yucheng and Shenhe’s wedding, she is welcomed by friends from four nations. Competing invitations from their tables leave her and Paimon struggling to choose a seat; they ultimately sit with Ei and Nahida 403 423.

Journey’s End and Paimon’s Revelation

After more than seven years traveling through all Seven Nations, Lumine reaches Khaenri’ah with all seven elements. Aether asks her to choose between joining him and siding with Paimon, revealing Paimon’s identity as the Sustainer 448.

Lumine agrees to hear Paimon’s history of Teyvat before deciding. She finds the account credible, rejects indiscriminate use of Abyssal power, and suggests Yucheng as a potential ally. Leaving Teyvat is not a simple alternative: according to Paimon, its only exit lies at Celestia and requires the Heavenly Principles’ permission 453.
