Arc 2The Road to Pentos

Eren conquered Astapor, absorbed Drogo’s Khalasar, and expanded his forces while preparing to build his empire in Pentos. He created Colossal Titans to form the city’s walls and ordered the army to march there.

  • Flock inherited the Screaming Giant, and Eren helped him practice controlling his transformations and Titan abilities.
  • Eren’s army defeated Astapor’s Unsullied, looted the city, and razed it, while Eren seized its wealth and captives.
  • Eren organized the captives under new rules, planned their settlement alongside the Dothraki, and set out for Pentos.
  • Viserys and Daenerys accepted Illyrio’s offer of support and traveled with him toward Pentos.
  • Eren’s forces defeated Khal Drogo’s Khalasar, Modun killed Drogo, and Rolo surrendered the remaining warriors.
  • Eren incorporated Drogo’s men into his army, promoted Modun, Flock, Link, and John, and ordered Colossal Titans created for Pentos’s walls.
  • Eren stationed the Colossal Titans around the prisoner camp and assigned Pure Titans to guard key locations as his army prepared to leave for Pentos.
Chapters 26–50 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 26A battle between Giants

Flock transformed into a Giant for the first time and lost his reason, so Eren had Modun fight him until Pure Titans could restrain him. Modun’s reckless attempt to provoke Flock triggered his control over Pure Titans, but Eren intervened, and Flock eventually emerged from his Giant body exhausted.

  • Flock cut his palm and transformed into a fourteen- or fifteen-meter Giant, losing his reason in the process.
  • Eren sent Modun to stop Flock, and Modun transformed into the Jaw Giants to fight him.
  • Modun dodged Flock’s attacks and wounded him, but Flock’s rapid healing filled the area with steam and let him land several punches.
  • Eren sent Pure Titans to restrain Flock, and Modun severed Flock’s genitals in an attempt to jolt him back to reason.
  • Flock’s pain triggered his control over Pure Titans, but Eren interfered through the Coordinate and redirected them to restrain Flock.
  • The Pure Titans exhausted Flock until he emerged from his Giant body, and Eren told Modun to take him away to rest and explain what had happened when he woke.

Ch. 27Mastering the Power of the Giants

Flock woke after receiving the power of the Giants and learned he had inherited the Screaming Giant. Eren helped him regain his reason during another transformation, then had him spar with Modun to begin training.

  • Flock woke in his tent, and Modun explained that he had inherited the Screaming Giant, which could summon and control Pure Titans and harden parts of its body.
  • Eren sorted the wealth and captives seized from Yunkai and recognized that the empire needed more people capable of administrative work.
  • Eren took Flock and Modun to a clearing with three Pure Titans so Flock could practice regaining his reason after transforming.
  • Modun stabbed Flock's nape and shouted at him, but Flock only woke when Modun threatened that he would lose his women and future chances with beautiful women.
  • Eren released Flock from the Pure Titans and had him spar with Modun to practice fighting and using Hardening.

Ch. 28Astapor

Eren marched on Astapor with his army and hundreds of thousands of captives, intending to destroy the last slave city in Slaver’s Bay. Astapor’s Good Masters sent twenty thousand Unsullied to face his forces, confident that they could defeat the Dothraki and Titans.

  • Eren reached Astapor after a half-month march with more than a hundred thousand troops and over three hundred thousand surviving captives.
  • Eren camped by the Worm River, left fifty thousand soldiers to guard the captives, and advanced on Astapor with a hundred thousand troops and nearly two hundred Pure Titans.
  • Astapor’s Good Masters sounded the alarm and saw Eren’s Dothraki cavalry and Titans approaching the city.
  • The Good Masters believed the attackers were no match for their Unsullied and sent a force of twenty thousand, including newly trained and still-training soldiers, out to fight.
  • The Good Masters were confident that their twenty thousand Unsullied had the advantage against Eren’s hundred thousand troops.

Ch. 29Pure against Unsullied

Eren sent more than two hundred Pure Titans against Astapor’s ten thousand Unsullied, whose spears could only briefly hinder the regenerating monsters. The Unsullied commander ordered a retreat to the city, but Titans broke through the remaining defenders and raced toward the open gate.

  • Eren controlled the Pure Titans and sent them charging at the Unsullied formation outside Astapor.
  • The Unsullied threw spears at the Titans, then their commander ordered them to target the Titans’ ankles to slow them down.
  • The Pure Titans recovered, trampled and devoured the Unsullied, and broke through their square formation.
  • The Unsullied commander abandoned the front ranks and led the surviving troops toward Astapor’s walls.
  • Astapor’s slave masters opened the gate, and the commander hurried his troops inside as Titans approached.
  • The commander urged everyone to move faster when Titans broke through the remaining Unsullied and charged toward the gate.

Ch. 30The fall of Astapor

Eren’s forces breached Astapor after Modun and Flock attacked the city’s defenders, and the Dothraki cavalry poured in to plunder. Some slave masters escaped by ship, while the rest lost their treasures to Eren’s forces.

  • The Unsullied commander led a little over three thousand survivors into Astapor and ordered a squad to brace the gate against the Pure Titans.
  • The slave masters blamed the commander as the titans battered the gate, while Eren ordered Modun and Flock to attack.
  • A defender killed a Pure Titan with a stone that struck its nape, revealing the titans’ weakness to the people on the wall.
  • Modun used Flock’s body to leap onto the wall and attacked the defenders, while Flock broke through the gate with his hardened fist.
  • Eren ordered the Dothraki cavalry to charge into Astapor, where Modun and Flock fought defenders and the riders plundered the slave masters’ mansions.
  • Some slave masters fled to the harbor with portable valuables, while the cavalry seized the treasures of those who remained.

Ch. 31The instructors

After Astapor fell, Eren agreed to use the captured Unsullied instructors to train the empire’s infantry without castration. As the Dothraki withdrew with prisoners and plunder, Eren watched Astapor burn and then destroyed the city in his Titan form.

  • Eren arrived in Astapor as survivors and treasure were hauled out, while Modun and Flock continued suppressing resistance.
  • Modun brought Eren the captured Unsullied instructors and explained that they could train an infantry legion for the empire.
  • Eren ordered the instructors fed and cared for, then told Black Rat to train the army to Unsullied standards without castration.
  • Eren climbed Astapor’s tallest pyramid and watched the Dothraki loot the city and set it ablaze as they withdrew with captives.
  • After the cavalry left, Eren transformed into a Titan and blew Astapor away.

Ch. 32Currency and races

Eren tallied the spoils from Slaver’s Bay and planned how to absorb its captives into his future empire. He decided to establish his nation in Pentos, where he would investigate magic and prepare for the Red Comet.

  • Eren woke up hungover after celebrating Slaver’s Bay’s destruction and took Lydia to hear reports on the spoils.
  • Eren found that the conquest had brought abundant gold, silver, jewelry, and nearly six or seven hundred thousand captives, but few useful coins.
  • Eren planned to establish a mint, settle foreign trade in his own currency or gold, and have the captives intermarry with the Dothraki.
  • Eren recalled how Valyria destroyed Old Ghis and explained that he had razed Slaver’s Bay because its proximity to Valyria made it dangerous.
  • Eren chose Pentos for his nation and planned to research magic before the Red Comet arrived, believing it might provide the power that allowed Daenerys’s dragons to hatch.

Ch. 33Conspiracy

Jace gathered former nobles of Slaver’s Bay in the captive camp to discuss overthrowing Eren and reclaiming their old lives. With no weapons or strength to rebel directly, they considered finding another way to escape.

  • Eren managed the captives’ camp and met with his regiment commanders while Dothraki guards ringed the holding area.
  • Former slave-owning families’ relatives secretly gathered at night, having used reports and transfers to place several of their supporters together.
  • Jace, the younger brother of a Meereen slave-owning family’s head, urged the former nobles to seek freedom and regain their former status.
  • The other captives warned Jace that Giants guarded the camp and that they lacked food, strength, property, and weapons.
  • Jace said they could not rebel outright and proposed exploring other ways to escape.

Ch. 34Assigned partners

Jace advised the captives to endure the march and organize quietly rather than attempt a dangerous escape. Eren then established a system for assigning captive women to Dothraki warriors, ordered the church to preach among the captives, and prepared his army to march toward Pentos.

  • Jace told the captives that escape would likely mean death and urged them to conserve their strength and gather allies.
  • Eren discussed the large captive population with Flock and proposed intermarriage while keeping Ghiscari men in hard labor.
  • Eren introduced the National Assigned Partner Law, which assigned captive women to Dothraki men according to age, appearance, and military achievements.
  • Eren forbade his warriors from coercing or raping women outside their assigned partnerships and threatened harsh punishment for violations.
  • Eren ordered the church to preach among the captives and approved troop protection for its missionaries.
  • Eren ordered the army to rest and regroup for three days before marching toward Pentos to build an empire.

Ch. 35Proselytizing

Eren sent nuns to preach among the captives while he arranged partners for his warriors and selected women for his harem. He later inspected the palace being built in the Coordinate Space, where the shells of fallen Dothraki worked as slaves.

  • Eren ordered Flock and other warriors to guard the nuns as they divided the 700,000 captives into seventy areas for preaching.
  • The Mother Superior and another nun preached that Eren was the Titan God's chosen Son and warned that unbelievers would be abandoned by the god.
  • Flock watched the captives, who glared at the preachers but did not dare to resist.
  • Eren continued selecting women for his harem and assigned partners to his warriors under rules meant to prevent unjustified harm.
  • Eren appointed Lydia as Chamberlain, then entered the Coordinate Space and saw the palace that the mindless shells of dead Dothraki were building around its pillar of light.

Ch. 36Pleasure

Eren explored new uses of the Coordinate, then relaxed as Lydia brought women to entertain and serve him. Elsewhere, Jace and the other captives complained about their treatment and continued waiting for a chance to rebel.

  • Eren learned that the Coordinate could modify genes and that Pure Titan bodies could be shaped from sand, though their movements remained limited by what they had known as humans.
  • Eren left the Coordinate Space and reflected that the Power of the Giants could be developed in new ways.
  • Lydia brought thirty women to Eren, who watched them dance and perform music while others attended to him.
  • Jace urged the captives to hold on until an opportunity arose, as they complained about hunger, hard labor, and their dwindling chances of success.

Ch. 37Viserys

Eren began his march toward Pentos to capture Viserys Targaryen, Daenerys Targaryen, and their dragon eggs. In Braavos, Viserys was rejected by the Iron Bank, but Illyrio Mopatis approached him with an offer of hospitality.

  • Eren set out for Pentos with his army, planning a route through Qohor and Norvos without attacking either city.
  • Viserys sought a loan from the Iron Bank to hire sellswords but was turned away at the Sealord's palace.
  • Viserys argued with the guards and threatened them after they mocked his hopes of reclaiming the Iron Throne.
  • Illyrio Mopatis learned Viserys's identity and considered the potential profit of supporting him.
  • Illyrio introduced himself to Viserys and invited him to stay at his residence in Braavos.

Ch. 38Daenerys

Illyrio offered to support Viserys's attempt to reclaim the Iron Throne and invited him and Daenerys to Pentos. Viserys brought Daenerys to Illyrio's mansion in Braavos, where Illyrio welcomed them to a banquet before their planned departure.

  • Illyrio told Viserys he would fund his restoration and invited him to stay in Pentos, and Viserys promised him lands and an office if he regained the Iron Throne.
  • Viserys returned to the tavern and told Daenerys about Illyrio's offer, but dismissed her concerns and threatened her when she questioned his judgment.
  • Viserys told Daenerys to dress for their meeting with Illyrio, and she prepared to go with him.
  • Illyrio prepared a banquet and came outside to greet Viserys and Daenerys when they arrived at his mansion.
  • Illyrio welcomed Viserys and introduced Daenerys as his younger sister before inviting them inside.

Ch. 39Pentos

Illyrio brought Viserys and Daenerys to Pentos while Eren’s army pursued Khal Drogo’s Khalasar across the Dothraki grasslands. The chapter ended with Drogo’s people preparing to defend their camp against the approaching force.

  • Illyrio reassured Daenerys at a banquet, and she toasted him alongside Viserys.
  • Illyrio set out for Pentos with Viserys and Daenerys, hoping to recruit magisters to fund the Targaryens.
  • Illyrio arrived in Pentos with Viserys and Daenerys and showed them the city.
  • Modun reported that scouts had found a Khalasar southwest of Eren’s army, and Eren ordered an eighty-thousand-man force to pursue it.
  • A rider warned Khal Drogo that another Khalasar was following them, so Drogo sent his Bloodrider to capture the pursuers and prepared his camp for battle.

Ch. 40Battle on the Grasslands (Part One)

Khal Drogo prepared his Khalasar to face Eren’s much larger Dothraki force, led by Modun. The battle began with mounted archery, and Modun transformed into a giant after an enemy spear pierced him.

  • Drogo ordered Kohoro to warn the kos and prepare the Khalasar for an impending attack.
  • Drogo led thirty thousand warriors toward the enemy while ten thousand stayed behind to guard the camp.
  • Eren ordered Modun to attack with fifty thousand men and kept Link’s thirty-thousand-strong division in reserve.
  • Drogo and Modun led their armies into battle, where mounted archers on both sides shot down many riders.
  • An enemy speared Modun, but yellow lightning erupted from his body and he transformed into a masked giant with sharp claws.

Ch. 41Battle on the Grasslands (Part Two)

Modun rampaged through Drogo’s forces as Eren used the Coordinate to direct him toward the long-braided warrior he suspected was the Khal. When Modun charged Drogo, Kohoro struck the Jaw Titan’s eye to draw it away while Haggo and Qotho dragged Drogo into retreat.

  • Modun transformed into a Jaw Titan and slaughtered the riders charging at him, while Drogo ordered his archers to fire despite risking their own men.
  • Eren’s cavalry engaged Drogo’s forces, and Eren used the Coordinate to tell Modun to target the long-braided warrior he suspected was the Khal.
  • Modun recognized Drogo and charged toward him, trampling a soldier who tried to block his path.
  • Kohoro urged Drogo to retreat, then rode toward Modun and shot an arrow into the Jaw Titan’s right eye.
  • Haggo and Qotho dragged Drogo away as Kohoro drew Modun after him, and Drogo shouted Kohoro’s name.

Ch. 42Battle on the Grasslands (Part Two)

Modun broke through Drogo’s defenses and pursued him across the grasslands as Eren’s army overwhelmed Drogo’s soldiers. After refusing to surrender, Drogo was killed by Modun, leaving Eren’s forces victorious.

  • Kohoro sacrificed his soldiers to hold Modun back while Drogo retreated, but Eren’s troops broke through and killed Kohoro.
  • Modun tore through the weakened defense, while Eren’s soldiers called on Drogo’s troops to surrender and killed those who continued resisting.
  • Modun hurled a fleeing rider and horse toward Drogo, and Haggo pulled Drogo aside, leaving Qotho crushed by the impact.
  • Drogo chose to fight rather than flee, but Modun caught him and offered him a choice between surrender and death.
  • Drogo declared that he would never surrender, and Modun crushed him in his hand.

Ch. 43After the battle

After defeating Drogo’s Khalasar, Eren ordered the prisoners guarded and led his army to surround the Khalasar camp. The camp’s garrison debated whether to surrender or wait for Drogo, and the chapter ended with news that Ko Moro had arrived to negotiate.

  • Modun reported that he had killed Drogo, that the surviving Dothraki had surrendered, and that Eren’s army had suffered 5,123 dead and 295 severely wounded.
  • Eren ordered Modun to guard the prisoners, find guides to Drogo’s Khalasar, and send a thousand men to escort the severely wounded to the church.
  • Eren followed three Dothraki guides to Drogo’s camp and ordered Link to surround it with the army.
  • Ko Rolo and his subordinates argued over whether to surrender or resist while they wondered whether Drogo had been defeated.
  • A soldier told Ko Rolo that Ko Moro had come to negotiate with the garrison.

Ch. 44Absorption

Eren sent Moro to negotiate the surrender of Rolo’s ten-thousand-man Khas after Drogo’s defeat. Rolo accepted Eren’s terms, crushed resistance from Drogo’s loyalists, and sent trusted men with Moro to meet Eren.

  • Eren sent Moro, a former Ko in Drogo’s Khalasar, to tell Rolo that Drogo had fallen and to negotiate the absorption of his forces.
  • Moro told Rolo that Drogo’s army had been defeated and warned that their enemy’s Giants made resistance hopeless.
  • Moro assured Rolo that he would keep command of ten thousand troops if he surrendered, and Rolo agreed.
  • When a loyalist challenged Rolo for his position, Rolo and a subordinate killed him, sparking a melee in which the surrender supporters killed the remaining loyalists.
  • Rolo ordered his soldiers and the rest of the Khalasar to surrender, then sent trusted men with Moro to pay their respects to Eren.

Ch. 45Surrender

Eren’s forces accepted Rolo’s surrender and began integrating his Khalasar into the Dothraki Empire. Rolo became a regiment commander under Link’s division, and Eren ordered the Khalasar to pack up and return to camp.

  • Moro and Rolo’s subordinate surrendered to Eren, and Link accepted their weapons on his behalf.
  • Link explained the empire’s ranks and military structure to Rolo, who peacefully handed over his forces and had their weapons confiscated.
  • Link brought Rolo to Eren, who offered him a regiment commander position and ordered his men to be broken up and regrouped.
  • Eren assigned Rolo’s regiment to Link’s division and ordered the Khalasar to pack their belongings and return to camp.

Ch. 46Promotion

Eren returned to camp with the prisoners and reorganized the army, assigning captured soldiers as replacements and promoting several commanders. After the meeting, he planned to have the song and dance troupe perform for him.

  • Eren brought the newly surrendered Dothraki prisoners back to camp and had them settled beside the prisoners from Slaver's Bay.
  • Eren told Modun to distribute head-count records and arrange partners for eligible warriors, while the empire would support the families of the dead and severely wounded.
  • Eren ordered each unit to select prisoners to replenish its ranks in three days and assigned Rolo to command the remaining soldiers under Link.
  • Eren renamed Modun's force the Royal Guard, promoted Modun to corps commander, and ordered female warriors selected to guard his song and dance troupe.
  • Eren promoted Flock, Link, and John to command the First, Second, and Third Corps, then dismissed them.
  • Eren asked Lydia to arrange a performance by members of the song and dance troupe.

Ch. 47Sculpting New Titans

Eren took the 243 surviving severely wounded outside the camp and used the Coordinate Space to begin sculpting sixty-meter Colossal Titans for the walls of his planned city in Pentos. He tested an Ultraman design, but realized the Titans’ lack of suits made them look different from the character he remembered.

  • Eren rode to the Church of the Giants, where the Mother Superior told him that 243 severely wounded people remained alive.
  • Eren ordered the wounded moved outside the camp so he could turn them into Pure Titans and sculpt Colossal Titans without space constraints.
  • Eren entered the Coordinate Space and planned to create more than two hundred sixty-meter Colossal Titans for the walls of his future city in Pentos.
  • Eren gave the dead warriors in the Coordinate Space peaceful dreams of Valhalla and set their empty shells to work sculpting Titans.
  • Eren had the workers shape an original Ultraman, then noticed that the unclothed Titan lacked the suit that gave Ultraman his familiar appearance.

Ch. 48Colossal Titan

Eren created Colossal Titans and other Giants, then brought 150 Colossal Titans into the real world as the Mother Superior declared their appearance a miracle of the Titan God. The chapter ended with the gathered nuns and soldiers facing the enormous figures as the Mother Superior used the moment to proclaim her faith.

  • Eren used Hardening to shape a Gundam-like Giant and realized that granting Giant abilities let others use powers that remained connected to him and under his control.
  • Eren mass-produced 150 Colossal Titans as future wall foundations and made the cargo-hauling Pure Titans stand on all fours.
  • Eren sent the finished Giants out of the Coordinate and returned to reality as the wounded people emitted yellow light and more than two hundred pillars of light rose.
  • The light revealed 150 Colossal Titans before the watching nuns and soldiers, who stared in shock at their size.
  • The Mother Superior composed herself and proclaimed the Colossal Titans a miracle and proof that the Titan God was the only true deity.

Ch. 49Deterrence

Eren summoned 150 Colossal Titans and led them to surround the prisoner camp, terrifying the captives and crushing the rebels’ hopes. At the camp’s edge, Jace and his companions faced the Giants and wondered whether they had any hope left.

  • The warriors saw the Colossal Titans and knelt to pray after the Mother Superior called their appearance a miracle.
  • The warriors noticed Eren’s unusual Ultraman and Gundam Giants among the Colossal Titans.
  • Eren directed the Colossal Titans toward the prisoner camp while keeping their heat and steam low to protect the grassland.
  • The Colossal Titans surrounded the prisoner camp, and some prisoners were crushed as the captives panicked and begged for mercy.
  • Jace and his companions watched the Giants from the camp’s edge and asked whether they still had any hope.

Ch. 50In position

Eren organized the Colossal Titans and reorganized his forces after capturing Drogo’s Khalasar. With the army and its preparations in position, he ordered the march to Pentos to begin the next morning.

  • Eren stationed Colossal Titans around the Prisoner Camp, set rules for guards and prisoners, and planned to use the Titans as the foundation of Pentos’s inner walls.
  • Eren assigned Pure Titans to guard the Church of the Giants, his tent, and the nearby Harem Corps, while Crawling Giants hauled supplies.
  • Over three days, Eren’s generals incorporated Drogo’s captured warriors into the Four Great Legions, while Eren arranged training and religious instruction for the captives’ children, elders, and women.
  • Modun reported that his units’ losses had been replenished, and Link reported that Rolo had taken command of the remaining troops with Tiko as deputy.
  • Eren praised Link’s service and ordered the army to depart for Pentos the next morning.
