Chapters 1–25 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 1Attack on Titan

After awakening as twelve-year-old Eren among the dead on the Dothraki Sea, the protagonist discovered that his wound healed and suspected he had gained Titan powers. He transformed into a massive armored Titan, tested its abilities, and set off after the khalasar’s hoofprints.

  • Yellow lightning struck the battlefield, and Eren crawled out from beneath the corpses with a wound that quickly healed.
  • Eren recovered memories of his life in China and learned that his new body had been a Dothraki boy killed in battle.
  • Eren gathered horsemeat and animal hides as supplies, then bit his hand and focused on transforming.
  • Eren became a fifty-meter Titan and tested its War Hammer-like abilities by forming a hammer and raising spikes from the ground.
  • Eren examined the hoofprints left by the departing khalasar and ran after them.

Ch. 2The power of the Titans

Eren used his Titan power to subdue Khal Lhabo’s khalasar and took command after killing Lhabo. He promised the Dothraki conquest and considered ways to pass his Titan power to descendants or others.

  • Eren caught up with Khal Lhabo’s khalasar and hurled a stone ball into its camp, killing and injuring many Dothraki.
  • Eren demanded that the khalasar submit or die, and the Dothraki knelt while Khal Lhabo refused.
  • Eren crushed Khal Lhabo to death and asked the first ko to surrender his name; Flock identified himself and was allowed to remain a ko.
  • Eren emerged from his Titan and told the Dothraki that a god had granted him his power, then promised to lead them to conquer the Dothraki Sea and Essos.
  • Eren considered having children or sharing his spinal fluid as ways to pass on his Titan power and preserve his mind beyond his body.

Ch. 3Spoils of war

Allen learned the size and leadership of the khalasar he had taken over, then began claiming Khal Rabo’s tent and slaves as his own. He ordered Rabo’s two bloodriders brought before him, leaving their fate unresolved.

  • Flock told Allen that the khalasar had thirty-five thousand people, including twenty-one thousand five hundred fighters, and that Byron had died when Allen threw a stone.
  • Colin and Link submitted to Allen as khal, and Allen ordered the captives from the rival khalasar freed and accepted as his subjects.
  • Flock led Allen to Rabo’s tent while Colin and Link seized Rabo’s two bloodriders; one bloodrider threw a curved blade at Allen but was subdued.
  • Allen inspected Rabo’s tent, questioned Flock about the three enslaved women, and learned that Sally had been captured in a Lhazareen village.
  • Allen called for Rabo’s bloodriders to be brought into the tent.

Ch. 4The Coordinate Space

Eren tested whether he could turn a Bloodrider who drank his blood into a Pure Titan, sculpting a Titan body for him in the Coordinate Space. After confirming the transformation worked, Eren considered how to control Titan creation and which of the Nine Giants’ abilities he might separate.

  • Eren sent everyone out of the tent, drew his blood, and forced a Bloodrider to drink a bowl of it.
  • Eren ordered Flock to clear a space and gather the Khalasar, then brought the Bloodrider to the center and shouted.
  • Lightning struck the Bloodrider, and Eren entered the Coordinate Space, where he sculpted a five-meter Titan body around him.
  • Eren concluded that the transformation worked and considered testing other races, controlling who transformed, and separating some Titan abilities.
  • Eren decided the Attack, Founding, Cart, Armored, Colossal, and War Hammer Titans were too valuable or dangerous to split off, then headed toward the pillar of light.

Ch. 5Establishing Authority

Eren used his power to turn one Bloodrider into a Pure Titan and had it eat another as punishment, then declared the Dothraki warriors his Bloodriders and pledged to lead them to conquer the world. After they drank wine mixed with his blood, he returned to his tent and entered the Coordinate Space to study its power.

  • Eren appeared on the grassland and revealed that he could control the five-meter Pure Titan, while Flock asked how the man had transformed.
  • Eren presented the transformation as punishment for an attempted assassination, then had the Pure Titan eat the bound Bloodrider.
  • Eren declared all the Dothraki warriors his Bloodriders and promised conquest, wealth, and giant powers to the bravest; the warriors answered with cheers.
  • Eren had Flock distribute wine mixed with his blood, and the warriors drank it as his Blood of My Blood.
  • Eren returned to his tent, ordered Sally to play the flute each morning, and sank his consciousness into the Coordinate Space to study the Coordinate Power.

Ch. 6Understanding the Situation

Eren learned to control individual Dothraki through the Coordinate Space and began planning to reorganize the khalasar, establish a religion, and build an empire. After learning the group was north of the Skahazadhan River and had a month of food, he told Flock, Colin, and Link that they would keep their positions while he reassigned subordinate commanders.

  • Eren entered the Coordinate Space and discovered he could search for Dothraki and control their transformations through the branches connected to the pillar of light.
  • Eren examined Dothraki memories and found that they followed strength rather than showing loyalty.
  • Eren woke, ordered the kos to a meeting, and planned a Dothraki religion centered on a god named Yeager.
  • Flock, Colin, and Link told Eren that they were north of the Skahazadhan River, heading toward Slaver's Bay, with enough food for a month.
  • Eren announced that he intended to establish a Dothraki Empire and keep the three kos in command of five thousand cavalry each while reassigning their subordinate commanders.

Ch. 7Reorganizing the army

Eren reorganized his Dothraki forces and declared their new state the Titan Empire, announcing that warriors could earn ranks through contests and battlefield achievements. He left the gathered warriors beginning a barehanded tournament to decide who might fill Byron’s vacant position.

  • Eren assigned new squad, platoon, company, battalion, brigade, and regimental structures, and told the three commanders to gather the Khalasar.
  • Eren rode the little giant to a clearing, transformed into his fifty-meter giant form, and declared himself Eren Yeager, king of the Titan Empire and Pope of the Church of the Giants.
  • Eren promised giant-shifting power to outstanding warriors and set promotion rules based on tournament performance and enemy heads taken in battle.
  • Eren formed a fighting platform and announced that a warrior who defeated twenty men in a row could claim Byron’s vacant regimental command.
  • Two warriors, identified as a and b, climbed onto the platform and began fighting, with b dodging a’s punch and kicking him off balance.

Ch. 8The path to godhood

Eren organized his Dothraki forces into a Guard Corps and the Wings of Freedom Cavalry Corps, then ordered them to raid Yunkai for supplies, gold, and enslaved women. He planned to build power through conquest, a growing bloodline, and faith, and left his commanders with instructions to bring back maps and interpreters.

  • Eren assessed the contests, selected Morton as his deputy, and divided his twenty thousand men between the Guard Corps and the Wings of Freedom Cavalry Corps.
  • Eren gave Flock and the other commanders banners and announced that their next destination was Yunkai, where they would plunder rather than massacre the city.
  • Eren ordered his men to prioritize grain, gold, and enslaved women, maintain discipline, and target slave masters' homes.
  • Eren explained that he hoped to unite the Dothraki, eventually conquer Slaver's Bay, and pursue godhood through magic or faith.
  • Eren told the commanders to bring him maps and translators intact, and they promised to follow his orders.

Ch. 9The fall of Yunkai

Eren led his Dothraki army to Yunkai, destroyed its walls, and ordered a rapid raid on the city. After the cavalry returned with plunder, he questioned his commanders and met Lydia, an interpreter who spoke Dothraki, Westerosi Common Tongue, and Valyrian.

  • Eren transformed into a fifty-meter Titan and smashed Yunkai’s walls and damaged its tallest pyramid.
  • The Dothraki charged into Yunkai, killing people who stood in their way and looting the homes of slave masters.
  • Eren watched from outside the city and helped suppress fierce resistance by throwing stones.
  • At sunset, the Dothraki returned with food, gold, female bed slaves, captives, maps, and an interpreter.
  • Eren questioned his commanders about the small amount of gold, then ordered Flock to distribute the captives and rewards under his rules.
  • Eren learned that the interpreter was named Lydia and that she spoke Dothraki, Westerosi Common Tongue, and Valyrian.

Ch. 10Casualties

Eren learned that Robert Baratheon ruled Westeros in 295 AC and planned to unite the Dothraki before turning toward Westeros and Daenerys. After releasing the Yunkai slave masters and reviewing the battle casualties, he prepared to gather his warriors and establish his authority as king.

  • Eren had Lydia question the slave masters, who reported that Robert Baratheon was king, Balon Greyjoy's rebellion had been suppressed, and the year was 295 AC.
  • Eren ordered Flock to release the slave masters unharmed and examined maps of Slaver's Bay and western Essos.
  • Eren decided to return to Vaes Dothrak to recruit visiting khalasars and spread worship of the New Gods.
  • Flock, Link, Colin, and Modun reported their units' casualties, and Eren ordered them to gather warriors and bring those unlikely to survive until tomorrow to an open space.
  • Eren told Lydia to teach him the Common Tongue and Valyrian, named himself king, and instructed Lydia to teach Sally Dothraki.

Ch. 11Valhalla

Eren promised his warriors that their fallen comrades would enter Valhalla, then secretly used the Coordinate Space to create giants from the dead and gravely wounded. He left the army reassured by the giants’ presence and ordered the commanders to use them to transport captured supplies.

  • Eren promised each warrior two gold dragons and told the army that warriors who died bravely would go to Valhalla.
  • Eren told fifty-two gravely wounded warriors they could reach Valhalla by becoming giants and serving the empire for two years.
  • Eren used the Coordinate Space to turn the wounded into fifteen-meter-class giants and intercept the souls of the fallen, giving them fabricated memories of Valhalla.
  • Flock and the other warriors watched as fifty-two giants appeared and felt relieved that the giants were on their side.
  • Eren told the army that the giants had been their comrades and would go to Valhalla in two years, then ordered the commanders to build flatbed carts for the captured supplies.

Ch. 12Prophecy

Eren returned toward Vaes Dothrak, planning to unite the Dothraki, investigate magic, and use the city to draw Khals and khalasars to him. After arriving, he visited the Dosh Khaleen and decided their prophecy of a mighty Khal who would conquer the world described him.

  • Eren traveled in a carriage pulled by a Small Giant and planned to learn about supernatural powers from the priests in Vaes Dothrak.
  • A soldier reported that they had left Slaver's Bay's sphere of influence, and Eren considered how to rebuild Yunkai and preserve his strength.
  • Eren studied a map and concluded that he needed to use Vaes Dothrak to summon the scattered Khals and khalasars so he could unite most of the Dothraki.
  • Twenty days later, Eren arrived at Vaes Dothrak and took his commanders to meet the Dosh Khaleen.
  • Eren interpreted the Dosh Khaleen's prophecy of the mightiest Khal as a prophecy about himself and his Giants.

Ch. 13Church of the Giants

Eren revealed his Giant form to the Dosh Khaleen and made them accept him as the prophesied king and join the Church of the Giants. He planned to wait six months for the other Khalasars to submit, then conquer those who did not, while researching how to create intelligent Giants.

  • Eren told the Dosh Khaleen to summon every Khalasar and warned that he would crush those who failed to arrive within six months.
  • Flock, Colin, Link, and Modun escorted the women outside, where Eren revealed the fifteen-meter Giants and transformed into his fifty-meter Giant form.
  • A Crone knelt and agreed to summon the Khals, and Eren appointed the Dosh Khaleen as nuns of the Church of the Giants.
  • Eren ordered the women to help unite the Dothraki and accompany him to subjugate any Khals who refused to submit.
  • Eren returned to his tent to research creating intelligent Giants so he could delegate future displays of power.

Ch. 14Bestowing the Power of the Titans

Eren decided to grant one of his Titan powers to a trusted subordinate, with a fifteen-year lifespan limit, and chose Modun. After Modun accepted the cost, Eren transferred the Jaw Titan Power to him and prepared to oversee his first transformation.

  • Eren realized that Titan power gave him authority through strength, and worked out how to let others transform by separating one of his Titan powers through the Coordinate.
  • Eren set a fifteen-year limit on the power and chose Modun, the Guard Corps deputy commander who had defeated ten opponents in the tournament.
  • Eren offered Modun the ability to transform into a Titan, warning him that he would have only fifteen years left to live.
  • Modun accepted the power, and Eren performed a ritual before transferring the Jaw Titan Power through his blood.
  • Eren explained Modun's regeneration and transformation, then summoned two fifteen-meter Pure Titans to guard him during his first transformation.

Ch. 15Jaw Giants

Eren oversaw Modun’s first transformation into a customized twelve-meter Jaw Titan, then ordered him to rest and train before transforming again. Eren also appointed Umber head nun of the Church of the Giants and planned to wait six months for the Dothraki khalasars before sending troops after those who stayed away.

  • Modun transformed into a twelve-meter Jaw Titan, and Eren had two Pure Titans restrain him until his strength ran out.
  • Modun woke in his tent, and Eren explained the Jaw Titan’s abilities and forbade him from transforming without permission until he could control it.
  • Eren visited the Dosh Khaleen, where Umber reported that messengers had been sent to the other khalasars and warned that few might come.
  • Eren told Umber he would wait six months for the khalasars, then send troops to find them and kill their leaders if they did not come.
  • Eren made Umber head nun of the Church of the Giants and instructed her to prepare to lead its worship of the Titan God, Yeager.

Ch. 16Transition

After training Modun to control the Jaw Titan, Eren used his power to inspire the empire’s warriors to seek the god’s favor. Two months later, a Khalasar of nearly sixty thousand approached the Holy City, and Eren rode out with Modun to meet its Khal and discuss the prophecy.

  • Eren trained Modun to fight three Pure Titans with the Jaw Titan and told Flock and the others that devotion and brave service could earn them the power of the Giants.
  • Eren watched Modun’s progress and expected the warriors’ hopes of gaining Giant power to make them fight harder.
  • Two months later, a messenger reported that a Khalasar of nearly sixty thousand was approaching the Holy City, and Eren set out with Modun, the Guard Corps, and twenty Pure Titans.
  • Eren sent a messenger to invite the Khal to meet between their armies and discuss the great Khal in the prophecy.
  • The Khal agreed to meet Eren, curious whether he was the prophesied hero and prepared to consider submission if Eren truly possessed unmatched power.

Ch. 17The might of the Jaw Titan

Eren confronted a Dothraki Khal and showed him the approaching Pure Titans, but the Khal dismissed them as easy targets. Modun transformed into a Titan, killed the Khal and several of his men, then charged through the Dothraki arrows toward their army.

  • The Khal mocked Eren and refused to submit, insisting his mounted archers could defeat the Pure Titans.
  • Eren told Modun to handle the confrontation while he returned to support the army.
  • Modun cut his palm and transformed into a masked Titan in front of the Khal and his guards.
  • Modun crushed the Khal and nearby men, then caught and killed another fleeing man.
  • Modun charged toward the Khalasar as its warriors fired arrows at him, relying on his regeneration to keep advancing.

Ch. 18Half a year

Eren captured and reorganized surrendered Dothraki into his growing army, then spent six months building his forces in the Holy City. With 150,000 troops, he prepared to leave for Slaver’s Bay to plunder it before heading toward Pentos in search of Dragon Eggs and Daenerys Targaryen.

  • Modun intimidated the surrendered Dothraki until they knelt, and he reported that 40,000 of the 70,000 captives could fight.
  • Eren ordered the captured women assigned to his warriors, kept the men as laborers, and promoted Modun, Flock, Colin, and Link to lead an expanded army.
  • Eren considered granting Giant powers to others and researching the Ackerman bloodline so he could strengthen himself.
  • Over the next six months, Eren gathered more Dothraki forces and expanded his army to 150,000 troops before deciding to leave the Holy City.
  • Eren rallied his soldiers to plunder and destroy Slaver’s Bay, then planned to travel toward Pentos to seek Dragon Eggs and Daenerys Targaryen.

Ch. 19Meereen

Eren led his army to Meereen and broke through its defenses, directing Modun to seize the harbor while Flock and the other commanders attacked the pyramids. Eren destroyed the fleeing ships and trapped the remaining fleet as his Giants and Dothraki overwhelmed the city.

  • Eren ordered Modun to take thirty thousand Guard Corps soldiers to the harbor and told Flock and the other commanders to kill the slave masters at the pyramids.
  • Eren sent more than fifty Pure Titans against Meereen, transformed into a fifty-meter Giant, and kicked down the city gate.
  • Eren charged toward the harbor as Giants and Dothraki entered the city and attacked its defenders.
  • Modun transformed into a Jaw Giant and pursued Eren, while Flock and the other commanders led their troops toward the pyramids.
  • Eren hurled a stone ball at ships trying to escape, blocked the harbor with their wreckage, and attacked the remaining Meereenese soldiers with Modun and the cavalry.

Ch. 20The fall of Meereen

Eren secured Meereen’s harbor and directed his forces to kill the slave masters while taking the slaves and commoners captive for future labor and eventual freedom. As the city burned, he contemplated ruling the world through the Coordinate and erasing Meereenese culture, faith, and heritage.

  • Eren ordered Modun and the Guard Corps to clear the harbor, then ended his Titan transformation aboard an intact ship.
  • Slave masters and their armed followers fled toward the harbor, where Modun’s forces killed the masters and captured the remaining slaves and commoners.
  • Eren watched the harbor slaughter and planned to guide the captured people into new lives as workers before eventually freeing them.
  • Eren imagined a centrally controlled empire in which the Coordinate would let him monitor the population and enforce laws, while he alone stood above them.
  • At dusk, Meereen burned, and Eren resolved to destroy the city’s culture, faith, and heritage so its people would eventually become part of a unified population.

Ch. 21Nuclear explosion

Eren tested the Colossal Titan’s nuclear explosion on Meereen, destroying the city and terrifying its former residents into submission. After claiming the survivors and the city’s vast spoils, he returned to camp and ordered captive women prepared for him to choose as consorts.

  • Eren transformed atop Meereen’s tallest pyramid and unleashed a nuclear explosion that annihilated the city.
  • Meereen’s captives watched the destruction and feared Eren’s power, while he secured control over them by confiscating weapons, rationing food, and shackling them in groups of ten.
  • Eren’s forces gathered gold, grain, Valyrian steel weapons, possible Dragon Eggs, and other valuables from Meereen.
  • Eren ordered Modun and the others to find captive women aged fifteen to forty and prepare them for his selection as consorts.
  • Eren returned to camp, enjoyed being fed and massaged by his women, and said he no longer thought about his past life.

Ch. 22Selection

Eren began selecting consorts from among the captives taken in Slaver's Bay, with Lydia recording his choices and Modun managing the line. After choosing forty-seven women in one day, Eren stopped for the night and planned to continue after the army moved toward Yunkai and Astapor.

  • Modun reported that more than ten thousand women met Eren's selection criteria, and Eren ordered them gathered and prepared for examination.
  • Eren had the women enter a tent one at a time while Lydia recorded the number he selected and Modun maintained order outside.
  • Eren examined women throughout the day and ordered Modun to keep two thousand nearby while the rest waited, with meals provided and no one allowed to touch them.
  • Eren selected forty-seven women from the more than two thousand he examined before stopping as darkness made further inspection difficult.
  • Eren planned for the army to march toward Yunkai and Astapor the next day and to resume selecting women after the fighting.

Ch. 23Return to Yunkai

Eren returned to Yunkai and left Modun, Flock, and the others to lead the assault while he remained in the rear. Modun broke through the gate but was blinded by the Unsullied guarding its narrow passage, and Flock prompted him to climb the walls instead.

  • Eren marched his army toward Yunkai and left exhausted captives who could no longer walk along the road.
  • Eren stayed behind with thirty thousand men as Modun, Flock, and the others led the attack with the Pure Titans and cavalry.
  • The Pure Titans drew fire while Modun broke open Yunkai's reinforced gate, but the Unsullied inside blinded him with thrown spears.
  • The Dothraki cavalry struggled to break through the narrow passage as Modun retreated from the gate and recovered his sight.
  • Flock told Modun to climb over the wall with his claws, and Modun realized he had been thinking like an ordinary human.

Ch. 24The destruction of Yunkai

Modun and the cavalry captured Yunkai, and Eren gathered its people and treasure before ordering the city destroyed. After addressing Colin’s death and the commanders’ performances, Eren obliterated Yunkai with a nuclear blast.

  • Modun scaled Yunkai’s wall, attacked the Unsullied, and opened the gate for the cavalry to charge into the city.
  • The cavalry captured Yunkai’s people and wealth for Eren, while slave masters were rounded up and interrogated or killed.
  • Eren learned Colin had been killed and ordered the commander of Colin’s First Regiment to succeed him.
  • Eren reprimanded Modun, praised Flock and offered him the Power of the Giants, and told Link he could earn it in a future battle.
  • Eren rode to Yunkai, transformed into a Giant, and destroyed the city with a nuclear blast.

Ch. 25Appointment

After destroying Yunkai, Eren appointed John to replace the dead Colin as division commander. Flock accepted the Power of the Giants, and Eren gave him the blood needed to inherit the Screaming Giants.

  • Eren returned from Yunkai and appointed John as division commander in place of Colin, assigning the First Regiment to its deputy commander.
  • Eren spent the evening with Lydia and the women he had gathered, who took turns entertaining him with music and dancing.
  • Flock came to Eren and declared that he would accept the Power of the Giants to serve the empire.
  • Eren named the power he planned to give Flock the Screaming Giants and explained its ability to summon Titans, control ten Pure Titans, and harden parts of its body.
  • Eren poured his blood into Flock's mouth so he could inherit the Screaming Giants.
