Background / History

Captivity and Rescue

Wang Lin inherited her banner Martial Soul from her father. The Azure Nether Sect targeted her because its unusual properties fulfilled the conditions for an awakening ritual involving the sect’s Azure Nether Snake Martial Soul. Her older brother, Wang Fan, had already been purchased to serve as the young sect master Qing Li’s double; after learning that his sister would be sacrificed, he pleaded with Long Qianming to rescue her 91 92 97.

During the ritual, Wang Lin was bound and begging for help. Long Qianming reached her while transformed into a dragonlike humanoid, initially frightening her into believing he would eat her. Once he mentioned Wang Fan, she confirmed her identity. He untied her, knocked her unconscious, and carried her away while the Azure Nether Sect fought the Lesser Yang Sect 92 95.

Becoming Long Qianming’s Disciple

While examining Wang Lin after her rescue, Long Qianming recognized her inherited banner as a Soul Banner capable of absorbing undead energy. Although the siblings considered their Martial Souls weak, he believed both had the potential to reach Titled Douluo. They knelt and requested to become his disciples, and he accepted 97.

Long Qianming offered Wang Lin three development paths: the Soul Refining Banner, Human Emperor Banner, and Five Elements Flag. She chose the light-attribute Human Emperor Banner because she disliked the temperament-altering effects associated with absorbing departed souls. Her subsequent training included attribute-matched Soul Beast meat and whale rubber to strengthen her physique 98.

After obtaining her first ring, she successfully purified and absorbed the departed soul of the Soul Emperor Aolaien. Long Qianming then entrusted Ye Huang with escorting both siblings to Vice Dean Wang at Häagen-Dazs Academy before leaving to pursue his own cultivation 100 101 102.

Travels and the Golden Iron Triangle Match

Dugu Xin and Su Qing’er later accompanied Wang Lin across the continent, protecting her while she collected energy from deceased people and Soul Beasts. This provided a safer cultivation route than Long Qianming’s rejected idea of sending the siblings to Slaughter City 124 140.

In Star Spirit City, she defended her companions during a confrontation with Yu Xiaogang and Liu Erlong, then volunteered for the resulting three-person Soul Fighting match. Spectators dismissed her because she was only a Soul Elder. During the battle, however, her first Soul Skill strengthened Dugu Xin and Su Qing’er while disrupting the Golden Iron Triangle’s concentration and coordination, helping their Jade Phosphor Poison Dragon defeat the Golden Sacred Dragon 124 125.

When Yu Xiaogang accused the victors of cheating, Wang Lin demanded proof and criticized his refusal to accept defeat. Dugu Xin chose not to enforce Xiaogang’s promise to kowtow 126.

Further Advancement and Sect Duties

Following a reunion at Dugu Manor, Long Qianming’s cultivation gifts brought Wang Lin to the rank 40 threshold. She subsequently obtained her fourth ring with help from Bibi Dong, Su Qing’er, and Dugu Xin, reaching rank 45 137 138 139 140.

Long Qianming later appointed Wang Lin and Bibi Dong deputy hall masters of the Heavenly Dragon Sect’s Punishment Hall. In that role, Wang Lin intervened against Lin Luhe after he abused a weaker disciple and resisted the sect’s patrol members. She was also present when Long Qianming introduced manufactured Soul Banners as enforcement weapons for the hall 192 206.

Appearance

  • Build: Slender 125.
  • Adolescent appearance: Described as having blossomed into a poised young woman by the three-person Soul Fighting match 124.
  • Martial Soul’s appearance: Originally a white banner with black markings; after her first light-attribute ring, it becomes yellow and white with a faint sacred presence 97 100.

Personality

Wang Lin is deeply grateful to Long Qianming and eager to learn from him. When asking him to accept her as a disciple, she offers to cook and wash for him. After learning that her cultivation might eventually overtake Wang Fan’s, she cheerfully promises to protect her older brother 97 100.

She is conscious of the dangers of her Martial Soul. Before receiving proper guidance, she avoided using departed souls for cultivation because doing so caused restlessness, hostility, and irritability. Her choice of the Human Emperor Banner reflects her dislike of unpredictable, drastically changing temperaments 98.

Despite her initially frightened and occasionally bashful manner, she becomes outspoken when defending her companions. She challenges Yu Xiaogang’s accusations directly and refuses to regard herself as merely an extra member of her Soul Fighting team 95 100 124 125 126.

Her approach to soul gathering follows a moral boundary: she acknowledges that others may mistake her Martial Soul for the mark of a Fallen Soul Master, but affirms her duty to hunt Fallen Soul Masters rather than prey on innocent people 140.

Abilities & Skills

Human Emperor Banner

An inherited support-type tool Martial Soul developed toward the light attribute under Long Qianming’s guidance 97 98.

  • Absorbs departed-soul and undead energy, converting it into resources for cultivation and support 97 100.
  • Her second light-attribute Soul Ring doubles her absorption and conversion speed 124.
  • Can gather the remnants of a dispersed soul, though delayed collection loses some of its energy 101.
  • Cannot summon an absorbed spirit at the time of her first Soul Ring 101.
  • Gives her enough familiarity with departed souls to recognize the vitality within Long Qianming’s dragon souls 171.

First Soul Skill: Human Emperor’s Conversation

Purifies the energy of the dead while providing spiritual interference and allied replenishment 100.

  • Purifies undead energy without affecting her emotions, accelerating her cultivation 100.
  • Initially suppresses 20% of the spiritual power of three same-rank Soul Masters 100.
  • Purifies 2% of their spiritual power for teammates; this energy can also become Soul Power to replenish them 100.
  • According to Wang Lin, allied support does not consume her own Soul Power and can continue as long as the banner contains enough undead energy 100.
  • Disrupts the Golden Iron Triangle’s focus and coordination during their fusion battle while empowering her teammates 125.
  • Long Qianming initially considers its support output too weak, despite its range of functions 100.

Fourth Soul Skill: Group Cultivation Support

An unnamed skill that uses the banner’s stored souls to accelerate cultivation 140.

  • Supports four people simultaneously 140.
  • Allows cultivation without bottlenecks while active; the speed increase varies with the recipient’s rank 140.
  • Increases Wang Lin’s own cultivation speed threefold when used on herself 140.
  • Requires sufficient souls in the Human Emperor Banner 140.
  • Wang Lin predicts that a sufficient supply would let her reach Soul Saint within seven years and Titled Douluo within fourteen; these are projections, not documented achievements 140.

Trivia
