History

Departure from Plant Academy

Ye Huang was introduced alongside Mu Kongkong as one of Plant Academy’s two outstanding fifteen-year-old students. Both had reached rank thirty, and Dean Mu Chun allowed the newly arrived Yu Xiaogang to accompany them on a hunt for their third Soul Rings 57.

The hunt exposed a fundamental disagreement over Ye Huang’s development. Yu Xiaogang proposed animal-type Soul Rings to compensate for his leaves’ fragility, using a Mandala Snake’s toughness, flexibility, and venom as an example. Ye Huang instead wanted to maximize his Martial Soul’s sharpness through bamboo Soul Rings, preferably Purple Radiant Bamboo, Sword Bamboo, or Nine-Leaf Bamboo 58.

Mu Chun and Mu Kongkong supported Yu Xiaogang, leaving Ye Huang increasingly isolated. He also unsuccessfully opposed Mu Kongkong’s decision to absorb a Gold Devouring Ant ring, arguing that Ghost Vine or dark-attribute rings would better develop the Ghost King Vine’s existing abilities 58 59.

After the unsuccessful search, Ye Huang refused another Lone Bamboo or Purple Bamboo ring because those species had supplied his first two rings. His dispute with Yu Xiaogang escalated when he rejected demands to apologize. Upon learning that Yu Xiaogang would become his homeroom teacher and the academy team’s leader, he withdrew despite Mu Chun’s repeated attempts to retain him 60.

Continental Advanced Soul Master Tournament

Three years later, Ye Huang represented Three Rivers Academy as a rank forty-three Soul Ancestor. Although the academy had previously suffered three consecutive tournament defeats, Dugu Xin warned that Ye Huang’s strength and familiarity with Plant Academy made him a dangerous opponent 65 66.

Against Plant Academy, four Three Rivers contestants voluntarily left the stage. Ye Huang fought with only a healing support Soul Master and a Power Attack System Soul Ancestor beside him. With Soul Power supplied by the healer, he cut through Plant Academy’s vines and overwhelmed its defenses with thousands of strengthened bamboo leaves. Mu Kongkong and two other control-type contestants were knocked unconscious before Yu Xiaogang conceded 66 67.

When accused of betraying his former academy, Ye Huang maintained that he had simply chosen a school better suited to him. Three Rivers Academy subsequently finished first in the winners’ bracket, while Mu Chun regretted allowing him to leave 67 68 69.

Three Rivers ultimately lost the preliminary final to Häagen-Dazs Academy. Following Long Qianming’s analysis, Dugu Xin exploited the wind generated by Ye Huang’s leaf vortex to spread Myriad Poison Mist across the arena. Ye Huang launched his attack before it reached full strength, but the opposing team intercepted the leaves, and he collapsed from poisoning. Three Rivers conceded after six members fell unconscious 70 71.

Soul Bone and Martial Soul Evolution

While searching for his fifth Soul Ring in the Star Spirit Mountain Range, Ye Huang became caught in a dispute over a ten-thousand-year Soul Bone. Aolaien killed other members of the hunting party and pursued Ye Huang to silence him, despite his promise not to claim the bone or reveal its existence 99 100.

Badly injured, Ye Huang stumbled upon Long Qianming, Wang Fan, and Wang Lin. Long Qianming saved him from Aolaien’s lightning attacks and killed his pursuer. He then gave Ye Huang the left arm Soul Bone and a Storage Soul Tool, asking him to escort his two disciples to Häagen-Dazs Academy 99 100.

Ye Huang revealed that he had spent half a year searching for Purple Radiant Bamboo. Long Qianming explained that his four bamboo Soul Rings gave him a strong chance of evolving his Martial Soul through that species. He subdued an approximately twelve-thousand-year specimen, allowing Ye Huang to deliver the finishing blow and absorb its ring 101 102.

The resulting Purple Radiant Bamboo Leaf retained its speed and thinness while becoming much harder and sharper. After returning to town, Ye Huang reaffirmed his promise to deliver Wang Fan and Wang Lin to Vice Dean Wang at Häagen-Dazs Academy 102.

Personality

Ye Huang is independent and outspoken about cultivation choices. He accepts that his original Martial Soul has weaknesses but believes specialization can overcome them. His refusal to abandon bamboo Soul Rings persists even under pressure from his dean, close friend, and prospective teacher 58 60.

His concern extends to others: he tries to prevent Mu Kongkong from taking a ring he considers unsuitable. In battle, he remains composed under coordinated attacks and continues fighting despite the pressure of facing four opposing Soul Ancestors 59 66 71.

He is also willing to acknowledge help. Initially frightened by Long Qianming’s strength and reputation, he accepts his gifts after reassurance, expresses deep gratitude, and promises to repay him through service 100.

Abilities & Skills

Purple Bamboo Leaf

His original Martial Soul produces sharp, light, thin bamboo leaves suited to rapid attacks over a wide area 57 58.

  • Can form a revolving barrier that protects both Ye Huang and nearby teammates 66 71.
  • Supports precise manipulation: he makes a theatrical tournament entrance by descending on leaves arranged beneath his feet 66.
  • Originally suffers from relatively low durability, a weakness central to his dispute with Yu Xiaogang 58.

Purple Radiant Bamboo Leaf

His evolved Martial Soul appears as a deep-purple leaf with more pronounced golden markings and inherits most of Purple Radiant Bamboo’s traits 102.

  • Retains thinness and fast attack speed.
  • Gains steel-like hardness, making the leaves difficult to break.
  • Becomes sharper and more damaging against defensive Soul Masters 102.

First Soul Skill — Unnamed

Releases numerous purple-gold bamboo leaves in a bombardment 102.

Second Soul Skill — Edge of the Leaf

Strengthens the offensive properties of his bamboo leaves 66.

  • Increases each leaf’s attack power and sharpness by twenty percent.
  • Used alongside Vajra Dance and his fourth skill to strengthen mass attacks 66 71.

Third Soul Skill — Vajra Dance

Creates an expanding formation of rapidly spinning purple-gold bamboo leaves 66.

  • Slices through binding vines, fire nets, and a Fire Vine Whip 66.
  • Envelops teammates in a protective leaf vortex.
  • Shatters incoming energy blades on contact 71.

Fourth Soul Skill — Ten Thousand Flying Flowers

Also rendered as Ten Thousand Trees, Flying Flowers, this skill turns thousands of gathered bamboo leaves into a sword-like barrage 66 71.

  • Breaks through Plant Academy’s defensive barriers and Ghost King Cage 67.
  • Becomes substantially stronger with an auxiliary Soul Master replenishing Ye Huang’s Soul Power 66 71.
  • Leaves Ye Huang and his supporting healer nearly exhausted after their victory over Plant Academy 67.

Combat Limitations

  • High Soul Power demand: His strongest sustained formations benefit heavily from external replenishment 66 67 71.
  • Poison vulnerability: The winds generated by his third and fourth skills can rapidly distribute an opponent’s poisonous mist 70 71.
  • Attack interception: Dugu Xin’s Jade Scale Breath and a teammate’s zither-string barrier destroy his prematurely launched barrage in the preliminary final 71.

Equipment & Soul Bones

  • Ten-thousand-year left arm Soul Bone — Given to him by Long Qianming after Aolaien’s death. Its specific skill is not identified; absorbing it eases his subsequent absorption of the Purple Radiant Bamboo ring 100 102.
  • Storage Soul Tool — Gifted by Long Qianming after noticing that Ye Huang lacked a means of storing his belongings 100.

Relationships

  • Mu Kongkong — Former close friend and fellow Plant Academy prodigy. Their friendship deteriorates over Soul Ring choices, and Ye Huang later defeats him in the tournament 57 59 66 67.
  • Mu Chun — Former dean who values his talent but initially supports Yu Xiaogang’s recommendations. He tries to prevent Ye Huang’s withdrawal and later regrets losing him 58 60 68.
  • Yu Xiaogang — Prospective teacher whose cultivation advice Ye Huang rejects. Their conflict prompts his departure from Plant Academy and continues through their tournament encounter 58 60 67.
  • Long Qianming — Rescuer and benefactor who gives him a Soul Bone, a Storage Soul Tool, and assistance obtaining his fifth Soul Ring 99 100 101 102.
  • Wang Fan and Wang Lin — Long Qianming’s disciples, whom Ye Huang agrees to escort safely to Häagen-Dazs Academy 100 102.
  • Dugu Xin — Tournament opponent who respects the threat Ye Huang poses and defeats him by exploiting his leaf formations with poison 66 70 71.
  • Aolaien — Soul Emperor who pursues him over a Soul Bone and attempts to kill him to prevent disclosure 99 100.

Notable Quotes

“Teacher Yu, although my Martial Soul has the weaknesses you mentioned, I believe that as long as I push one aspect—such as the leaves’ sharpness—to the utmost limit, Purple Bamboo Leaf’s weaknesses will become negligible.” 58

“I haven’t wronged anyone. You were the ones who underestimated us, and you were the ones with an unprofessional team leader. All I did was follow my heart and join an academy better suited to me.” 67
