Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Martial Soul awakening 3 Awakens in Holy Soul Village, where Spirit Hall dispatches a Soul Master to conduct the children’s awakenings. Recounted retrospectively.
Rank twenty-nine; two Soul Rings 33 35 38 First documented cultivation rank. Possesses two hundred-year rings and identifies himself as a Control-Type Battle Spirit Master. No subsequent breakthrough is shown in these chapters.
Three-ring Soul Elder 220 Displays yellow, yellow, and purple Soul Rings during his challenge against Dugu Yan. His exact rank is not stated in the passage.
Rank forty-one; four-ring control-type Tool Soul Master 235 Displays yellow, yellow, purple, and purple rings. His fourth ring is 8,300 years old, exceeding the five-thousand-year limit described by his teacher. Fortuitous opportunities have also strengthened his spiritual power and Soul Power.
Purple Demon Eye reaches the mustard-seed realm 348 Develops extremely fine perception and integrates his hidden weapons with his Martial Soul and Soul Skills. His estimate that he can fight at the Soul Saint level is a personal assessment, not a cultivation breakthrough.
Blue Silver Emperor awakening fails; Soul Power temporarily sealed 375 376 Cannot awaken his inherited bloodline because Jun Yi has destroyed Blue Silver Forest. Tang Hao then seals his Soul Power for a planned two-year special training regimen.
Rank fifty through Asura Divine Power 389 390 Asura God Divine Sense enters his body and raises him eight ranks from forty-two to fifty. His Blue Silver Grass becomes blood-red and tougher; his first two rings turn purple and his fourth turns black.
Rank seventy-one Soul Saint 425 426 Reaches this realm before turning seventeen. His first Martial Soul has purple, purple, purple, black, black, black, and black rings. His Clear Sky Hammer still has no rings.
Sixth Asura Trial completed 459 Gains the qualification to wield the Asura Demonic Sword and absorbs foreign, pure Soul Power through the Mysterious Heaven Skill. His exact rank is not given.
Rank eighty; Seventh Asura Trial completed 480 Reaches the level described as Soul Douluo after two years of training and killing more than a hundred bloodthirsty monsters. Rewards include a ten-thousand-year increase to Soul Ring ages, twenty percent affinity with the Asura God Position, and one God-Given Soul Ring.
Rank eighty-four to rank ninety-nine Limit Douluo 492 Lu Tian, the Asura God, places a golden rune into him. His rank rises from eighty-four to ninety, a red ninth ring forms, and his Soul Power then reaches ninety-nine.
Fully ringed Clear Sky Hammer 515 521 Displays eight black rings and one red ring on his hammer. These nine rings are later identified as God-Given Soul Rings. His first Martial Soul’s pre-stripping configuration is subsequently stated to have been three black and six red rings.
Regression to rank fifty-two Soul King 520 521 After he refuses divine servitude, the Seven Deadly Sins Gods remove the Asura-derived enhancements. His first Martial Soul reverts to ordinary Blue Silver Grass with yellow, yellow, purple, purple, and black rings; all nine hammer rings disappear.
Asura God King 532 Completely merges with Asura Divine Power and formally obtains the Asura God Position. His body is reshaped, and a blood-colored sword mark appears between his brows.
Divine identity overridden by Lu Tian 539 The Destruction God King inserts the former Asura God’s remnant Divine Soul into him. His appearance and voice become those of Lu Tian. Tang San is subsequently active under his own name again, but the supplied passages do not explain that transition.
Nine God Rings; God King-level power 557 Displays nine God Rings while fighting the Gods of Pride and Envy. Despite his power, his combat instincts and experience remain inferior to theirs.
Divine Soul fully restored 569 His restored Divine Soul helps him withstand the Level 9 Soul Tool’s God-Slaying Light.
Divine Soul severed; later death and revival 574 590 594 Awakens after his confrontation with Jun Yi with a severed Divine Soul. He later dies and is revived; his precise post-revival cultivation is not stated.

Appearance

Tang San appears to be twelve or thirteen years old and stands approximately 1.7 meters tall when Jun Yi first sees him 33.

  • Face: Unremarkable rather than particularly handsome 33.
  • Clothing: A neat, light-blue martial outfit 33.
  • Belt: Inlaid with twenty-four pieces of jade 33.
  • Technique-related changes: His hands become white and jade-like, while his eyes turn purple when he prepares to fight Zhao Wuji seriously 41.

Later descriptions portray him with neatly combed black hair, a straight, high nose, and handsome features while he works on Soul Tools. His appearance is therefore described differently from his initial introduction 389.

  • Asura empowerment: His body becomes scarlet during the initial infusion of Asura Divine Power, with faint gold and red traces intertwined at his chest 390.
  • Imperial Preceptor attire: Appears before the public in a long blue-green robe, with long hair over his shoulders and bright, piercing eyes 508.
  • Godhood transformation: Grows a foot taller, gains fairer and finer skin with a faint golden light beneath it, and bears a small blood-colored sword mark between his brows 532.
  • Possession: Temporarily takes on the appearance and bearing of the previous Asura God, Lu Tian 539.
  • Covert attack attire: Wears black robes and a vicious demon mask before departing to attack Xuejun Pavilion 549.

Personality

Tang San readily assumes a leadership role in battle. Drawing on strategies learned from Grandmaster, he assigns positions and responsibilities to the Shrek applicants before their assessment. Although he is proud of his judgment, he initially accepts Jun Yi’s refusal to follow his plan rather than prolonging their disagreement 38.

His composure deteriorates when Xiao Wu is injured. He attempts to treat her immediately, entrusts her to Ning Rongrong, and asks to confront Zhao Wuji alone. Even after the group passes, he insists on earning admission separately for himself and Xiao Wu rather than accepting a result secured by Jun Yi 39 41.

Tang San considers protecting endangered teammates a shared responsibility. This conviction becomes a source of hostility toward Jun Yi, whom he blames for rescuing Zhu Zhuqing but not Xiao Wu during the assessment 43.

He is intensely interested in weapon development. Ning Rongrong’s Soul Power-operated equipment excites him because he sees its potential to improve his hidden weapons and help restore the Tang Sect 46 47.

His pride repeatedly drives sustained effort. After his expulsion from Heaven Dou Royal Academy, he spends two years cultivating and researching counters to Dugu Yan’s poison. At the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, he refuses to accept being treated as Jun Yi’s replacement and resolves to become the best soul engineer. Comparisons with Jun Yi provoke resentment, but also reinforce his determination to combine Soul Tools with Tang Sect hidden weapons 235 381 384.

His confidence does not always reflect his demonstrated strength. Before the tournament finals, he estimates that he can individually fight at the Soul Saint level and that his team might defeat a Soul Douluo, yet the Martial Soul Team decisively overwhelms Shrek. Later, he dismisses warnings that advanced Soul Tools could threaten a god, only to suffer serious setbacks against them 348 352 354 549 551 568 569.

Tang San strongly asserts his personal identity and freedom. When told that he is a reincarnated fragment of the Asura God’s Divine Soul, he insists that he is Tang San of the Tang Sect. He refuses the Divine Soul Servitude Decree even at the cost of his power, declaring that death would be preferable to becoming a puppet. He repeats that rejection when the Destruction God King calls him a pawn 520 539.

His political conduct reveals a widening gap between his stated intentions and his response to opposition. He believes renewed war is necessary for lasting peace and considers himself to be acting for Heaven Dou’s people. However, public condemnation enrages him, and he privately resolves to kill the veteran Ma Baoguo after the man challenges his disregard for ordinary people’s suffering 507 508 509.

After losing his divine enhancements, his usual composure gives way to bitterness and suspicion. Yan notices that he behaves like a different person, responding to attempts at conversation with accusations and demands to be killed. On returning to the Clear Sky Sect, Tang San conceals the true cause of his collapse behind a fabricated account of a joint enemy ambush 522 524.

Abilities & Skills

Blue Silver Grass

  • Battlefield control: Sends vines toward opponents from multiple directions, restraining their movements and positioning 33 38.
  • Durability: His grass initially withstands Dai Mubai’s claws, which cut only halfway through it 33.
  • Poison: Releases a paralytic toxin. Tang San explains that exertion and accelerated blood circulation make its effects develop faster 33 38.
  • Parasitic growth: His second Soul Ring activates fine vines and previously planted seeds on an opponent’s body 33.
  • Support: Uses vines to lift Zhao Wuji, retrieve Xiao Wu, and attempt to pull teammates out of danger 38 39.
  • Limits: Dai Mubai’s White Tiger Vajra Transformation destroys the restraints and overcomes the poison. Zhao Wuji’s shock wave also injures Tang San through his connected vines 33 39.
  • First Soul Skill — Blue Silver Entanglement: Explicitly names and activates this restraint skill against Dugu Yan, although he loses consciousness before completing his counterattack 220.
  • Emergency retrieval: Pulls the unconscious Tai Long out of the line of Soul Guidance Ray fire during the tournament 257.
  • Inherited bloodline: Descends from his mother’s Blue Silver Emperor lineage, but fails to awaken it after Blue Silver Forest is destroyed. Tang Hao privately acknowledges that Tang San’s remaining bloodline is insufficient to support the evolution even if he becomes a Titled Douluo 375 376.
  • Asura transformation: Divine power strengthens its blades, roots, and stems, increases its vitality, and gives it a blood-red luster and cold presence. This enhancement disappears when the gods reclaim the Asura-derived power 390 521.

Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track

  • Evasion: Uses unusual footwork to narrowly avoid Dai Mubai’s claws and escape Zhao Wuji’s attack range 33 39.
  • Repositioning: Circles behind Zhao Wuji to launch hidden weapons from his rear 41.
  • Limits: Jun Yi’s Observation Haki tracks his movements clearly, while Zhao Wuji’s Position Tracking ultimately prevents him from evading a decisive attack 33 41.
  • Later applications: Evades Dugu Yan’s dragon claw, dodges a Soul Guidance Ray, and rapidly closes with Yan while wielding the Clear Sky Hammer 220 257 415.

Hidden-Weapon Techniques

  • Rapid volleys: Launches ten weapons simultaneously, followed by sustained barrages from his fingers 41.
  • Penetrating attacks: Deploys a later volley with greater penetrating power than his opening attacks 41.
  • Limits: Zhao Wuji’s Gravity Enhancement slows the projectiles; his defenses repel them, and his palms smash them apart 41.
  • Development goal: Recognizes similarities between Ning Rongrong’s handgun and the Tang Sect’s Zhuge Repeating Crossbow, then considers incorporating Soul Power technology into his own weapons 46.
  • Mechanical crafting: Manufactures Zhuge Repeating Crossbows and supplies Shrek’s contestants with crossbows, Silent Sleeve Arrows, and King of Hell’s Invitations, teaching the team to use them 252.
  • Tournament effectiveness: Shrek’s hidden weapons penetrate ordinary Soul Tool protective barriers and help the team win every subsequent preliminary match 268.
  • Integrated combat: By the finals, combines hidden weapons with Martial Soul attacks and Soul Skills rather than treating them solely as separately thrown projectiles 348.
  • Counterattack under pressure: Releases a large volley while falling from a clash with Zhu Zhuqing, forcing her to abandon her attack and defend 352.
  • Specialized ammunition: Uses steel needles, poisoned short arrows, and fire starters against Yan 354.
  • Later limits: Xie Yue’s purple Soul Tool barrier deflects a hidden weapon, while Yan’s flames knock aside or destroy an entire barrage 351 354.
  • Claimed expertise: Regards himself as a Tang Sect elite capable of making the Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus; the supplied passage presents this as his own assessment rather than a demonstrated deployment 384.

Mysterious Heaven Skill

  • Internal power: Channels its internal power into the unconscious Xiao Wu in an attempt to help her after her Soul Skill backfires 39.
  • Observed result: Xiao Wu does not respond immediately to the treatment 39.
  • Meridian protection and absorption: Protects the meridians around his heart while absorbing violent Soul Power in Slaughter City. The absorption strengthens his muscles, blood vessels, bones, and internal organs more substantially than it increases his Soul Power 441.
  • Refinement: Integrates the pure Soul Power gained after his sixth trial with his internal power, making that power purer and more resilient 459.

Mysterious Jade Hand and Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon

  • Defensive application: Combines these techniques to meet Zhao Wuji’s palm head-on when he can no longer dodge 41.
  • Limits: The combination fails to withstand the blow; Tang San is severely injured and knocked unconscious 41.
  • Later use: Again makes his hands white and jade-like before fighting Dugu Yan 220.

Purple Demon Eye

  • Perception: Detects the strange red ripples of Jun Yi’s Conqueror’s Haki and distinguishes them from ordinary Soul Power 45.
  • Limits: Jun Yi meets his gaze and subjects him to enough pressure that he must look away 45.
  • Projectile tracking: Can just barely distinguish the trajectories of the Heaven Dou Second Team’s Soul Guidance Rays 257.
  • Mustard-seed realm: Perceives the movement of individual blades of grass and specks of dust with extraordinary precision 348.
  • Divine-stage observation: Uses it alongside divine sense while investigating a fleeting presence belonging to the Asura God 563.

Team Combat

  • Tactical planning: Assigns rear support, frontal assault, battlefield control, and flanking roles during the entrance assessment 38.
  • Coordination with Xiao Wu: Launches her from his palms while restraining Zhao Wuji’s lower body 38.
  • Meteor Human Hammer: Calls for a coordinated attack in which Xiao Wu springs from his shoulder and kicks toward Zhao Wuji’s head 39.
  • Tournament command: Directs Shrek’s attacks and orders a retreat as soon as he recognizes the danger of the opposing team’s Soul Tool Pistols 256.
  • Target prioritization: Identifies Hu Liena’s control over his teammates as the immediate problem during the finals and attempts a joint assault with Xiao Wu 352.

Clear Sky Hammer

  • Second Martial Soul: Wields the Clear Sky Hammer in direct combat despite initially having no Soul Rings or Soul Skills attached to it 351 353 425 426.
  • Striking power: Matches Xie Yue in direct clashes despite a Soul Power gap of more than ten ranks, and uses repeated hammer strikes to force him back 351.
  • Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer: Uses the hammer technique against Yan while his hammer is still without Soul Skills 353.
  • Defensive application: At rank ninety-nine, expands the hammer’s power into a black curtain that blocks incoming golden scales, although Golden Crocodile Douluo subsequently breaks the defense 515.
  • Limitations in mastery: Has not learned the Clear Sky Nine Absolutes or Ring Detonation by his battle with Golden Crocodile Douluo. His comparatively limited use of the hammer contributes to his disadvantage in raw strength despite his higher rank 515.
  • Loss of rings: All nine of its God-Given Soul Rings vanish when the gods remove his Asura-derived power 521.

Soul Tool Development

  • Apprenticeship: Begins learning Soul Tool manufacture with the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect after Ning Fengzhi recruits him for his mechanical talent 379 381.
  • Initial limitations: Admits that he understands mechanical crafting but not Soul Tools. He repeatedly fails to engrave a Class One Defense-Model Soul Tool formation correctly 381 389.
  • Completed work: Later carries a Class 1 defensive Soul Tool that he has painstakingly assembled from many small components 398.
  • Research ambition: Intends to combine Soul Tool technology with Tang Sect hidden weapons to create equipment unique to himself 384.

Asura Divine Power and Godhood

  • Divine guidance: The Asura God’s Divine Sense enters his body, improves his cultivation and Martial Soul, and directs him to retrieve the inheritance artifact from Slaughter City 389 390.
  • Trial rewards: Receives enhanced Soul Ring ages, increased affinity with the Asura God Position, and a God-Given Soul Ring through the Asura trials 480.
  • Divine weapon combat: Uses the Asura Demonic Sword to cut through Soul Masters and Soul Tool barriers, and deploys a technique named Asura Sword Radiance 462 550 551.
  • Blood sword: Summons a blood-red sword after withdrawing his hammer against Golden Crocodile Douluo. Later passages also call his weapon the Asura Blood Sword 515 516 517.
  • God Rings: Manifests nine God Rings after attaining God King-level power 557.
  • Sacrificial technique: Burns his God Rings and invokes “Asura, sacrifice!” after being badly wounded by Zhu Zhuqing and Dugu Yan. Blood-red markings appear across his body, and his sword’s power surges 551.
  • Divine defenses: Creates extensive black light screens capable of blocking attacks across Gengxin City 550.
  • Limitations: God King-level power does not compensate fully for his weaker combat experience. He struggles against the Seven Deadly Sins Gods and cannot overpower the Destruction God King’s direct intervention 539 557.
  • Dependence on bestowed power: The gods can remove the Asura-derived increases to his cultivation, Soul Ring ages, and Martial Soul, returning him to rank fifty-two 521.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Jade-inlaid belt — Worn around his waist at the Rose Hotel; set with twenty-four pieces of jade 33. Later identified as Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges, which flashes with pale blue light before he releases a hidden-weapon barrage 354.
  • Hidden weapons — Used in numerous volleys against Zhao Wuji. Tang San returns to the training field the following morning to retrieve them 41 43.
  • Zhuge Repeating Crossbow — A mechanical hidden weapon he manufactures and distributes to Shrek’s tournament contestants. He claims that even a Soul Elder cannot withstand its attacks 252.
  • Silent Sleeve Arrow — One of the three hidden weapons supplied to each participating Shrek contestant 252.
  • King of Hell’s Invitation — Also distributed to Shrek’s contestants; associated with the surprise attack through which Shrek defeats the Heaven Dou Royal Academy Second Team 252 257 268.
  • Needles, poisoned short arrows, and fire starters — Included in the barrage he launches against Yan during the finals 354.
  • Class 1 defensive Soul Tool — A completed, intricately assembled device he carries at the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect 398.
  • Asura Demonic Sword — Inheritance weapon for which he gains wielding qualification after the sixth Asura trial; later identified as a Super Divine Artifact. The previous Asura God can also reclaim it from his hand 459 495 568.
  • God-Given Soul Rings — Receives one as a seventh-trial reward; his Clear Sky Hammer eventually possesses nine, all of which are subsequently removed 480 521.
  • Blood-red jade token — Jun Yi later identifies a strength-enhancing token given to Tang San by a red-robed man during his entry into Slaughter City as relevant to their final confrontation. The supplied passage does not fully explain its mechanism 572.
  • Divine Soul Servitude Decree — Offered by the Seven Deadly Sins Gods but rejected. Signing would place his Divine Soul under the Destruction God King’s control 520.

Relationships

  • Xiao Wu — Close companion and coordinated combat partner. Tang San protects her, attempts to treat her injuries, and insists on a separate assessment for their admission 33 35 38 39 41. He later seeks help rescuing her, calls her the love of his life, and refuses to abandon her despite Tang Hao’s desire to withdraw. Her injuries repeatedly provoke desperate challenges from him. Jun Yi later states that he killed her 122 352 353 369 571.
  • Jun Yi — Fellow Shrek applicant whose pre-existing dislike of Tang San develops into open mutual hostility. They disagree over command, the assessment, and responsibility for Xiao Wu’s injury 38 39 43. Their rivalry escalates into near-fatal combat, revenge over Xiao Wu and Ning Rongrong, and the destruction of Tang San’s opportunity to awaken his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline 235 236 264 273 376 571.
  • Grandmaster / Yu Xiaogang — Teacher who instructed Tang San in Soul Master battle strategies, including the priority of targeting a Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda user 38. Shares his confidence in countering Dugu Yan and supports the use of hidden weapons in the tournament. Tang San’s repeated defeats unsettle both of them, while Yu Xiaogang later reacts fiercely to the suggestion that Spirit Hall might threaten his student 221 252 272.
  • Dai Mubai — Initial opponent at the Rose Hotel; later guides Tang San and Xiao Wu through Shrek’s entrance process 33 35 37. Supports Tang San’s hidden-weapon strategy and fights alongside him in the tournament 252 256 351.
  • Ning Rongrong — Assessment teammate whom Tang San trusts with the injured Xiao Wu. He later hopes to discuss her Soul Power-operated weapons with her 39 46 47. Their relationship develops into betrothal and marriage, with Tang San subsequently identified as the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect’s new son-in-law. Jun Yi later identifies her, alongside Xiao Wu, as a lover of Tang San whom he killed 398 414 415 571.
  • Zhao Wuji — Entrance examiner who defeats him in their individual bout 41. Later waits for his return after he goes missing, fearing both for his safety and Tang Hao’s retaliation 122.
  • Tang Hao — His father and protector. After Tang San’s injury, Tang Hao confronts and beats Zhao Wuji for bullying a child 42 375. Reveals his maternal bloodline, attempts to arrange its awakening, trains him, and supports his Soul Tool studies. He deceives Tang San about the possibility of a future Blue Silver Emperor awakening to preserve his hope. News of his death later drives Tang San toward further revenge 375 376 379 485 486.
  • Oscar — Called in to arrange treatment after Tang San is knocked unconscious 41. Later becomes his tournament teammate and is turned against him through Hu Liena’s control 351 352.
  • Ah Yin — His mother, a transformed hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor. Tang San learns her identity from Tang Hao and promises not to disappoint her 375 376.
  • Tang Xiao — Paternal uncle involved in deciding whether Tang San may return to the Clear Sky Sect. Recognizes the potential value of his talent but must account for the elders’ objections 425 426.
  • Tang Yuehua — Paternal aunt and later Clear Sky Sect master. Receives him warmly after Slaughter City, offers to help calm his killing aura, and shelters him after his loss of divine power 456 457 524 529 530.
  • Ning Fengzhi — Recruits him to study Soul Tools, supports him against the Third Elder’s dismissive comparisons, and later becomes his father-in-law. Treats him as a hope for overthrowing Spirit Hall and repeatedly advises caution. A later revelation identifies Ning Fengzhi as a mole after Tang San’s defeat by Jun Yi 379 381 414 415 457 549 574.
  • Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect’s Third Elder — A demanding Soul Tool expert whose comparisons with Jun Yi deeply offend Tang San. His disdain contributes to Tang San’s resolve to develop his own hybrid technology 381 384 389.
  • Dugu Yan — Repeatedly defeats him with her Jade Phosphor Five Poisons, motivating years of cultivation and poison research. Later joins Zhu Zhuqing in severely wounding him during his attack on Gengxin City 220 221 235 551.
  • Zhu Zhuqing — Former fellow applicant who later fights against him as a member of the opposing tournament team. Her attacks injure him during the finals, and she subsequently helps Dugu Yan cripple his offensive at Gengxin City 352 551.
  • Yan — Repeated opponent who defeats him during the tournament and later confronts him at the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. After Tang San loses his divine power, Yan encounters him again and notices his extreme hostility and changed temperament 353 354 415 521 522.
  • Xie Yue and Hu Liena — Tournament opponents. Tang San initially matches Xie Yue’s physical strength with his hammer, but Hu Liena’s control of Shrek teammates helps dismantle his team 351 352.
  • Lu Tian / Asura God — Divine patron who guides his cultivation and grants enormous power increases. Tang San is revealed to originate from a fragment of his Divine Soul, and his body is later used to revive Lu Tian 390 492 520 539.
  • Destruction God King and the Seven Deadly Sins Gods — Seek to subordinate him through a Divine Soul Servitude Decree. His refusal leads to the removal of his divine enhancements; even after attaining godhood, he remains vulnerable to their interference and manipulation 520 521 532 539 557 594.
  • Qian Renxue — Divine opponent who exploits his injuries and drains his remaining strength during their battle 517.
  • Ma Baoguo — Veteran who publicly challenges his pro-war rhetoric. Tang San privately decides that he should die, while Xue Qinghe’s comments reveal that Ma Baoguo was deliberately selected to confront him 508 509.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Rose Hotel Confrontation

Tang San first appears directly while fighting Dai Mubai at the Rose Hotel. His Blue Silver Grass restrains and poisons the higher-ranked opponent, prompting Dai Mubai to acknowledge that he would have lost if they both possessed only two rings. Dai Mubai then uses his third Soul Skill to break free and neutralize the poison, demonstrating the difference between their cultivation levels before ending the confrontation 33.

Shrek Academy Entrance Assessment

Tang San registers alongside Xiao Wu and passes the initial inspection despite the examiner’s surprise at his cultivated hands and rapidly developed Blue Silver Grass. Before the practical assessment, he proposes a coordinated formation, but Jun Yi refuses to serve as his supporting controller. They agree to operate independently 35 38.

During the fight, Tang San coordinates with Xiao Wu and attempts to protect the other applicants. After Xiao Wu is injured and loses consciousness, he asks to restart the test alone. Jun Yi refuses to let the group’s admission depend on that challenge and continues the assessment instead 38 39.

Although Zhao Wuji subsequently passes everyone, Tang San insists on a separate test for himself and Xiao Wu. His hidden weapons cannot penetrate Zhao Wuji’s defenses, and a tracked palm strike knocks him unconscious. The system later explains that Tang San has not become weaker: Jun Yi’s performance caused Zhao Wuji to take him seriously from the beginning, changing the encounter’s outcome 41 42.

Conflict with Jun Yi

The following morning, Tang San confronts Jun Yi while retrieving his hidden weapons. He argues that Jun Yi should have relocated Xiao Wu to safety as he did Zhu Zhuqing. Jun Yi invokes their agreement to handle control independently, while Tang San maintains that protecting a teammate supersedes that arrangement 43.

Their hostility is not entirely a response to this incident. The narration explicitly attributes Jun Yi’s earlier rejection of Tang San’s leadership to a double standard rooted in his prior dislike of Tang San 38.

Their later encounters make the dispute increasingly personal. Jun Yi severely injures Tang San during his challenge to Heaven Dou Royal Academy, and Tang Hao consequently targets Jun Yi. Jun Yi later deliberately destroys the Blue Silver Emperor inheritance ground to obstruct Tang San’s future development, anticipating that Tang San would retaliate against him if he became a god 264 273.

Interest in Soul Tool Technology

Tang San watches Ning Rongrong use a handgun, defensive barrier, and speed-enhancing equipment against Dai Mubai. He becomes eager to understand how the devices operate, particularly their use of Soul Power rather than conventional ammunition. He hopes to exchange ideas with her, but worries that her departure from Shrek would remove that opportunity 46 47.

This interest eventually becomes a formal research pursuit when Ning Fengzhi invites him to develop Soul Tools. Tang Hao supports the arrangement, recognizing that the technology could change the continent’s balance of power and potentially enable the Clear Sky Sect to emerge from seclusion 379.

Xiao Wu’s Disappearance

During a later search for Xiao Wu, Tang San asks Bone Douluo to help rescue her, but his request is refused. Zhao Wuji continues waiting for the missing Tang San and considers asking Tang Hao for help if he does not return. His concern is compounded by his memory of Tang Hao’s earlier punishment 122.

Dugu Yan and the Challenge to Heaven Dou Royal Academy

Tang San confronts Dugu Yan with three Soul Rings, attempting to evade her dragon claw and counter with Blue Silver Entanglement. He loses consciousness before completing his attack. The aftermath establishes that her Jade Phosphor Five Poisons have defeated him again despite his research into countermeasures 220 221.

Following his expulsion from Heaven Dou Royal Academy, he spends two years training with the goal of defeating her. Fortuitous opportunities improve his spiritual power and Soul Power, while his fourth Soul Ring reaches 8,300 years. Confident that he has found a counter to Jade Phosphor Serpent venom, he returns to challenge the academy and deliberately provokes the Heaven Dou Imperial Family 235.

At rank forty-one, he wins four consecutive matches against the academy’s students before Jun Yi appears. Jun Yi’s three black and two red Soul Rings overwhelm the impression created by Tang San’s own advancement. The ensuing confrontation leaves Tang San near death; Jun Yi later states that Ye Lingling’s treatment was the only reason he survived 235 236 273.

Tournament Preliminaries and Hidden Weapons

When tournament rules permit equipment, Tang San argues that Shrek benefits because his hidden weapons surpass ordinary Attack-Type Soul Tools. He equips each contestant with a Zhuge Repeating Crossbow, Silent Sleeve Arrow, and King of Hell’s Invitation and instructs the team in their use 252.

The Heaven Dou Royal Academy Second Team initially overturns that confidence with defensive Soul Tools and Soul Tool Pistols. Recognizing the firearms from Ning Rongrong’s earlier fight, Tang San orders a retreat. Tai Long is shot unconscious, and Tang San retrieves him with Blue Silver Grass. When he dodges another ray to rush toward Xiao Wu, the shot continues into Jiang Zhu behind him 256 257.

Shrek wins that encounter through a surprise attack. In subsequent matches, its hidden weapons penetrate ordinary protective barriers, and Tang San’s combat talent and weapon skills impress the spectators. The team finishes first in the preliminaries 257 268.

Tournament Finals and Defeat

Before the finals, Tang San’s Purple Demon Eye reaches the mustard-seed realm, and he becomes confident that his integrated hidden-weapon and Soul Skill combat can secure the championship 348.

Against the Martial Soul Team, his Clear Sky Hammer initially matches Xie Yue’s Moon Blade despite their cultivation gap. However, Xie Yue’s Soul Tool barrier blocks his hidden weapon, and Hu Liena turns Shrek members against their own team. Zhu Zhuqing injures him, while Xiao Wu repeatedly intervenes to save him 351 352.

With his teammates defeated and Xiao Wu badly injured, Tang San challenges all seven opponents alone. He first carries his companions off the arena, then fights Yan with the Clear Sky Hammer, Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer, and hidden-weapon volleys. Yan overpowers these attacks. Tang San loses consciousness while resisting Yan’s fifth Soul Skill and is swallowed by its fire dragon, prompting Yan to try to redirect the potentially fatal attack 352 353 354.

Later, the sight of hundred-thousand-year fifth rings unsettles Tang San’s understanding of Soul Ring limits and makes him consider attaching such rings to his Clear Sky Hammer 361.

Tang Hao’s Retreat and the Failed Blue Silver Emperor Awakening

During the confrontation after the tournament, Tang San refuses to leave Xiao Wu behind, openly declaring her the love of his life. Tang Hao ultimately knocks him unconscious and escapes with him alone 369 370.

After he awakens, Tang Hao reveals that his mother was a transformed Blue Silver Emperor and that his first Martial Soul carries her imperial bloodline. Tang San resolves to cultivate, protect his loved ones, and seek revenge against Bibi Dong and Jun Yi. Tang Hao then takes him to Blue Silver Forest to awaken his bloodline 375.

Tang San cannot sense the expected response from the forest. Father and son discover withered Blue Silver Grass, and Tang Hao concludes that Jun Yi has absorbed the forest’s power and destroyed the awakening ground. Tang Hao tells Tang San that greater strength can still permit a future second awakening, but privately recognizes this as a lie: without the forest, his son’s bloodline cannot support the evolution even at the Titled Douluo level 376.

To preserve his determination, Tang Hao begins a planned two-year training regimen and temporarily seals his Soul Power 376.

Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and Asura Intervention

Ning Fengzhi recruits Tang San for Soul Tool research with Tang Hao’s approval. Tang San’s reception is complicated by the Third Elder, who considers him inferior to Jun Yi. Tang San rejects the role of replacement and vows to develop technology combining Soul Tools with Tang Sect hidden weapons 379 381 384.

His early work is unsuccessful, with repeated failures while engraving a Class One defensive formation. During this period, a blood-colored light enters his body unnoticed. The Asura God’s Divine Sense raises his cultivation from forty-two to fifty, transforms his Blue Silver Grass, and increases his Soul Ring ages. It promises guidance and directs him toward the inheritance artifact in Slaughter City 389 390.

Tang San later completes a Class 1 defensive Soul Tool. His relationship with Ning Rongrong develops into betrothal and marriage, and he becomes the sect’s son-in-law. Yan confronts him again during the wedding-related events 398 414 415.

Return to the Clear Sky Sect and Asura Trials

Tang Hao brings Tang San before Tang Xiao and the Clear Sky Sect’s five elders to request his return to the ancestral sect. Tang San accepts their tests and reveals rank seventy-one cultivation while still three months short of seventeen. His seven-ring configuration shocks the elders, particularly because his first ring is already purple. He also announces that his unringed Clear Sky Hammer will eventually receive rings of at least seventy thousand years 425 426.

In Slaughter City, he uses the Mysterious Heaven Skill to absorb violent Soul Power and strengthen his body. He earns the title “Asura King” among spectators and returns in less than two years, carrying a violent killing aura that Tang Yuehua offers to help calm 441 453 456.

Ning Fengzhi and Tang Yuehua describe him as a future hope for defeating Spirit Hall and protecting their sects. After completing the sixth Asura trial, he gains the qualification to wield the Asura Demonic Sword. He subsequently uses it to kill Spirit Hall Soul Masters during an attack on their camp 457 459 462.

Two years of further training under the Asura God’s instructions involve slaughtering more than a hundred bloodthirsty monsters. Reaching rank eighty before twenty completes his seventh trial and grants increased ring ages, divine affinity, and a God-Given Soul Ring 480.

Tang Hao’s Death and Forced Advancement

Tang San returns to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect in a red light and falls unconscious, suffering backlash from forcibly increased strength. After learning of Tang Hao’s death, he wants to confront Jun Yi directly, but Ning Fengzhi warns that he remains outmatched 485 486.

Lu Tian later intervenes personally. By placing a golden rune between Tang San’s brows, he raises him from rank eighty-four to ninety and then, with the formation of a red ninth ring, directly to rank ninety-nine 492.

Heaven Dou Imperial Preceptor and Public Backlash

By twenty, Tang San becomes widely known for reaching the continent’s cultivation summit and is appointed Imperial Preceptor overseeing renewed war against the Spirit Hall Empire. His reputation among Heaven Dou’s war-weary civilians is poor: they associate him with prolonging the conflict rather than restoring peace 506.

Rumors grow increasingly extravagant, portraying him as an evil demon who has coerced the emperor into war. A hostile rhyme spreads through the empire. Tang San reacts with anger, believing that the people are slandering him despite his efforts on their behalf 507.

He convenes a public assembly to argue that war is necessary for true peace. Ma Baoguo, a veteran, challenges his lofty rhetoric and demands that he acknowledge the suffering of soldiers and bereaved families. Tang San becomes furious and privately decides to kill him, although he initially refrains from attacking in public because of his official position. Xue Qinghe’s comments reveal that the confrontation has been deliberately arranged to expose Tang San’s failure to understand what ordinary people want 508 509 510.

Golden Crocodile Douluo and the Loss of Divine Power

Tang San fights Golden Crocodile Douluo with a Clear Sky Hammer bearing eight black rings and one red ring. Despite his rank ninety-nine cultivation and superior ring configuration, he is shocked to be disadvantaged in raw strength against the rank ninety-eight opponent. His incomplete hammer training and lack of Ring Detonation or the Clear Sky Nine Absolutes limit his effectiveness, leading him to switch to his blood sword 515 516.

Qian Renxue subsequently exploits his wounds and exhausts both his Soul Power and internal power. Seven gods descend as he reaches his limit 517.

The Seven Deadly Sins Gods offer to help him merge with the Asura God Position if he signs a Divine Soul Servitude Decree. The God of Pride reveals that he is a reincarnated fragment of the Asura God’s Divine Soul, not merely a talented mortal chosen as an heir. Tang San rejects both the implication that his identity is false and the demand for servitude 520.

In response, the gods strip away his Asura-derived power. His first Martial Soul returns to ordinary Blue Silver Grass, four of its nine rings disappear, and the remaining five revert to yellow, yellow, purple, purple, and black. His hammer loses all nine God-Given rings, and his cultivation falls to rank fifty-two 521.

Return in Disgrace and Asura Godhood

After encountering Yan, Tang San returns to the Clear Sky Sect exhausted and disheveled. The guards mistake him for a beggar and then an impostor claiming to be Blue Silver Douluo. Tang Yuehua and Ning Fengzhi recognize him and admit him 522 524.

He conceals the divine stripping by claiming that Qian Renxue and Bibi Dong attacked him together before Jun Yi ambushed him. When Huyan Zhen later challenges reports of his Titled Douluo cultivation, Tang San refuses to appear, knowing that his Soul King strength would be exposed. He severs his own meridians and presents himself as suffering a recurrence of serious injuries 524 529 530.

Tang San subsequently merges completely with Asura Divine Power and becomes the Asura God King. His body is reshaped, and he vows revenge on the Seven Deadly Sins Gods, the Destruction God King, and Jun Yi, while declaring that the Elephant Armor Sect should be destroyed 532.

The Destruction God King nevertheless overpowers him and declares that he has always been a pawn. By inserting Lu Tian’s preserved remnant Divine Soul into Tang San’s body, he revives the former Asura God through his split soul. Tang San’s appearance and voice become Lu Tian’s 539.

Attacks on Gengxin City and Xuejun Pavilion

Tang San later reappears acting under his own name and remains fiercely hostile toward the Spirit Hall Empire. He plans a covert attack on Xuejun Pavilion in Gengxin City, dismissing Ning Fengzhi’s warning that its Level 8 Soul Tools may threaten gods 546 549.

During the attack, he cuts through silver rays and defensive Soul Tool barriers with the Asura Demonic Sword, spreads black defensive screens across the city, and kills those in his path. A black pillar of light subsequently traps him and drains his Divine Power 549 550 551.

Zhu Zhuqing and Dugu Yan severely injure him, rupturing most of his meridians and damaging his vitality. He responds by burning his God Rings and invoking an Asura sacrificial technique. The two women keep their distance, having intended to weaken rather than kill him 551.

He later experiences a vivid encounter with a dark-red figure that urges him to merge and become the true Asura God. After awakening in the Heaven Dou Imperial Palace, he remains disturbed by the experience. His subsequent battle with the Gods of Pride and Envy demonstrates that his God King-level power still exceeds his practical combat experience 555 557.

Advanced Soul Tools and the Duel with Jun Yi

During another assault, Tang San cannot cleave through a silver spherical Soul Tool even with a full-strength strike from the Asura Demonic Sword. The weapon’s use of ordinary Soul Power rather than Divine Power astonishes him, and he orders a coordinated attack 568.

Lou Gao’s Level 9 Soul Tool, the God-Slaying Light, places him in serious danger. With his Divine Soul restored, Tang San withstands the attack and calls for the Gods of Light and Wind to cover his attempt to kill Lou Gao 569.

Jun Yi then offers a one-on-one battle without helpers or Soul Tools. By invoking Xiao Wu and Ning Rongrong’s deaths at his hands, he draws Tang San into accepting a fight to the death. During the confrontation, Jun Yi reveals his knowledge of the red-robed man and strength-enhancing blood-red jade token Tang San encountered on entering Slaughter City 571 572.

Tang San later awakens in a palace with his Divine Soul severed and his body in severe pain. Ning Fengzhi appears at his bedside, and the aftermath reveals the latter’s role as a mole 574.

Death, Revival, and Karmic Torment

Tang San subsequently dies. Xie Yue, operating within the Heaven Dou court under a disguised identity, reports that a Soul Power mark he placed on Tang San’s corpse has vanished, indicating that the body has been removed from the Douluo Continent. The Goddess of Life’s intervention brings about Tang San’s revival 590.

In his latest depicted condition, Tang San suffers the Destruction God King’s intervention within a pitch-black space. Memories of his birth, two lifetimes, Xiao Wu, and his battles with Jun Yi pass through his consciousness. Karmic flames then burn his flesh and soul while leaving him painfully aware, subjecting him to suffering that he regards as worse than his previous death 594.
