Background / History
Youth and Arranged Marriage
Ten thousand years earlier, Li Kuangfeng met Nangong Meng while training in a secret realm. They fell in love and privately pledged themselves to each other for life. After returning home, however, he discovered that his father had arranged a marriage alliance to strengthen the developing Li Lineage 44.
Li Kuangfeng protested and was confined. Ultimately, his filial devotion and the lineage’s interests led him to accept the marriage. Li Yan and Li Chen were born afterward. Heartbroken, Nangong Meng married into the White Tiger Sect, while Li Kuangfeng avoided seeing her out of guilt 44.
Protecting Li Xiao
Li Kuangfeng originally wanted to name his grandson Li Xiaoyao, hoping he would live freely and without restraint. Recognizing that lifelong freedom from worry was unrealistic, he kept only part of the name, resulting in Li Xiao 1.
When the Pan Lineage threatened the Li Lineage, Li Kuangfeng tore open space and sent Li Xiao to the Lower Realm. He intended both to temper his grandson and to preserve a surviving bloodline should the family be destroyed 1 2.
Li Xiao returned the following day at peak Emperor Realm. Li Kuangfeng greeted him with an angry saber-wielding reprimand, but stopped every blow before it could injure him. When Li Xiao subsequently reached peak Saint, Li Kuangfeng briefly feared that a powerful cultivator had possessed him; Li Yijian’s examination reassured him 2 3.
Retirement and Continued Leadership
Li Yijian announced Li Xiao’s succession as lineage head, but Li Kuangfeng remained involved in everyday leadership. He later oversaw affairs while Li Yijian was secluded and pressed his reluctant grandson to address the growing number of cultivators seeking to join the family. His insistence prompted Li Xiao to expand the grounds and establish the White Jade Tower 9 28 35.
After hearing that masked Saints had crippled Li Yan, and that Li Yijian had also once been watched, Li Kuangfeng suggested that someone might be hunting Saint Realm experts or talented cultivators. He subsequently supported improving the family’s cultivation so its members would not become liabilities to Li Xiao 11 18.
During Tang Xuan’s assault, Li Kuangfeng recognized the enemy leader’s Middle Saint Realm strength and stopped Li Yan from charging outside. With Li Xiao absent, he urged the family to remain behind the Ten Directions Killing Formation rather than confront stronger opponents directly 23.
Reunion with Nangong Meng
Li Xiao persuaded Li Kuangfeng to attend a Four Symbols Sects ceremony by claiming they were traveling to the Azure Dragon Sect. Their actual destination was the White Tiger Sect. Li Kuangfeng angrily confronted his grandson on arrival, but Nangong Meng’s invitation finally drew him off the shuttle 41 42.
Li Xiao then arranged for the former lovers to speak privately. Li Kuangfeng explained the marriage alliance, admitted that he had wronged Nangong Meng, and apologized. She accepted his explanation and chose to leave their old grievances behind 44.
When Nangong Meng charged the rampaging blood tiger to protect Bai Xiaolin, Li Kuangfeng urgently asked Li Xiao to save her, calling her his grandson’s “grandma.” Li Xiao later used that connection to describe the Li Lineage and White Tiger Sect as family. Bai Jiangbo accepted his mother’s renewed relationship with Li Kuangfeng 46 48.
Before leaving, Li Kuangfeng promised to visit Nangong Meng often. On the journey home, however, he repeatedly warned Li Xiao not to spread news of their relationship throughout the lineage, fearing embarrassment in his later years 48 50.
Appearance
- Elderly and white-haired: Nangong Meng notices how much he has aged when they reunite 42 44.
- Cloudy eyes: His eyes become noticeably sharp when questioning Li Xiao about his cultivation 2.
- Thick brows and large eyes: Bai Jiangbo remarks on these features when discovering his connection to Nangong Meng 48.
Personality
Li Kuangfeng is deeply protective of his descendants, even when expressing affection through scolding and exaggerated threats. His apparent saber attack on Li Xiao is carefully restrained, and sending his grandson away is a painful precaution rather than an abandonment of the family 1 2.
He balances pride in Li Xiao with practical caution. Although delighted by his grandson’s strength, he insists that the rest of the lineage must continue cultivating. He also restrains Li Yan from confronting superior enemies and warns Li Xiao not to underestimate a major sect’s hidden reserves 18 23 50.
His filial devotion once outweighed his personal wishes, leading him to accept the marriage that separated him from Nangong Meng. The resulting guilt makes him awkward and evasive around her, while concern for his reputation leaves him especially vulnerable to Li Xiao’s teasing 42 44 50.
He enjoys celebrating the family’s success. When Gu Chungang and the other famous cultivators join the Li Lineage, he enthusiastically drinks with men whose achievements he once could only admire 28.
