Background / History

Childhood and Lu Qian

Lu Keran grew up in a household attended by servants, with his grandfather and the maid Lili looking after him. At four, he regularly dug up the garden, sneaked food from the kitchen, and tried to eavesdrop outside his grandfather’s study. Lili nevertheless described him as a polite child 191.

He met Lu Qian, an older boy already attending elementary school, during a visit to his grandfather. Lu Keran became upset when Lu Qian said he did not want to be his friend—without initially explaining that he wanted to marry him instead. After agreeing in confusion, Lu Keran reconsidered and declared them incompatible because his own name had three characters while Lu Qian’s had only two 191 192.

After Lu Qian’s parents died in a plane crash, Grandpa Lu arranged for him to live with the family. Lu Keran decided this meant Lu Qian should marry into his family, prompting his grandfather to jokingly call the older boy his “child bride.” Taking his new responsibility seriously, Lu Keran helped prepare their room and selected toys to welcome him 192.

On arriving, Lu Qian revealed that he had changed his name to Lu Xuanran in response to Lu Keran’s objection about their mismatched names. Although bewildered, Lu Keran welcomed him and promised to treat him well 192.

Adult Relationship with Lu Xuanran

As adults, Lu Keran and Lu Xuanran have an intimate relationship, though Lu Keran continues to call him his youngest uncle and occasionally his “child bride.” They are not blood relatives: Lu Xuanran is the son of Grandpa Lu’s friend 35 50 141.

Lu Keran initially believed Jiang Yu was Lu Xuanran’s lover. While confronting him, he also warned that Jiang Yu was appearing on the same variety show as Bo Yizhou’s wife and child and needed to be watched 35.

He later demanded a fuller explanation. Lu Xuanran revealed that Jiang Yu was actually Xia Wang’s lover and had never seen either man’s face because he was kept blindfolded. Lu Keran checked Xia Wang’s chat history on Lu Xuanran’s phone, but remained angry that the truth had been withheld and refused to forgive him immediately 43 45.

Their subsequent domestic scenes show Lu Xuanran bringing him food, massaging his sore lower back, and staying home to keep him company. Lu Keran accepts the care while continuing to complain about his teasing and possessiveness 51 57 98.

Lu Keran is talkative, restless, and eager for gossip. His expressive messages, reaction images, sarcastic remarks, and middle-finger gestures contrast with Bo Yizhou’s reserved manner. He openly admits that he cannot sit still, and his childhood habit of investigating things personally carries into his adult curiosity about other people’s affairs 9 12 48 57 191.

His teasing can be relentless: he laughs at Bo Yizhou’s embarrassing livestream moments and spends two hours laughing beside Lu Xuanran after surgery. Nevertheless, he also looks out for his friends, questions whether Bo Yizhou’s family might be bullied on television, and remembers Chaochao’s interests when buying him a gift 12 115 141.

He is quick to protest when Lu Xuanran oversteps, whether by slapping him after an unexpected kiss or withholding forgiveness after discovering a secret. Despite his sharp words, he can be persuaded to stay and keep Lu Xuanran company 35 45 57.
