Appearance
- Hair: Long and blond 59.
- Build: Muscular and physically imposing; Su Zhou considers his physique superior to that of most races in the universe 182.
- Usual attire: Asgardian armor with exposed arms and a bright red cape 60 114.
- Future counterpart: Overweight after years of heavy drinking and inactivity, with a prosthetic eye. His older armor still fits, but so tightly that it restricts his breathing and hampers his fighting 83 89 97 112.
Personality
Thor initially treats mortals as beneath him and responds to perceived insults with immediate violence. When he first encounters Su Zhou dragging Loki along the ground, he attacks without asking questions. His earlier arrogance had nearly caused a war, prompting Odin to strip him of his powers and exile him to Earth 54 59.
Living as a human changes his outlook. Thor comes to regard humans as fundamentally similar to Asgardians, rather than as inferior beings. Odin and Frigga both recognize his improvement after his time on Earth, although his bluntness and poor social judgment remain apparent 62 106 107 108.
He is deeply protective of family and friends, but that affection makes him easy to deceive. He initially minimizes Loki’s responsibility for the invasion, and later accepts an apparent reconciliation that ends with Loki stabbing him. He also intervenes when Sif risks provoking Su Zhou 62 74 109.
Thor’s attachment to Mjolnir is a recurring source of comedy. Other worthy wielders leave him heartbroken, and he once abandons a conversation with Jane to cling to the hammer as it flies away. Despite this possessiveness, he reliably enters battle when Asgard or Earth is threatened 60 61 112 114.
His future counterpart is weighed down by bereavement and the destruction of his home. He retreats into alcohol, games, and isolation, but remains capable of responding to encouragement and recovering his determination to become stronger 86 111 112.
Abilities & Skills
Thunder and Lightning
Thor channels lightning in combat and uses it to manifest his Asgardian armor 89.
- Stormbreaker crackles with powerful lightning when he charges into battle 89.
- Mjolnir contains power that Odin’s enchantment makes available to other worthy wielders 53 60.
- His future counterpart can still be hurt and stunned by a powerful electrical strike from Mjolnir 86.
Asgardian Physiology
Thor possesses exceptional strength, endurance, and recovery 73 85 86.
- An enthusiastic, nonhostile clap on the shoulder is powerful enough that Su Zhou believes it could have broken his collarbone before his physical enhancement 85.
- Half an hour of push-ups does not qualify as a warm-up for him 86.
- His constitution allows him to recover quickly from Loki’s abdominal stab wound; Su Zhou’s holy energy stops the bleeding and accelerates his return to action 73 74.
Combat and Leadership
Thor is an experienced frontline warrior who leads Asgardian forces across the Nine Realms 110.
- Suppresses rebellions in the other realms almost single-handedly within three days 110.
- Attacks the Dark Elves’ invading ship directly and helps defeat their forces 114 117.
- With Stormbreaker, his demonstrated combat strength is described as comparable to Captain Marvel’s and sufficient to pressure Thanos 176.
Flight and Bifrost Travel
- Hammer-assisted flight: Mjolnir carries Thor through the air 73 112.
- Stormbreaker: Can summon the Bifrost 86.
- Condition-dependent limitation: His future counterpart fails to summon the Bifrost while in poor physical and mental condition, requiring Su Zhou to transport him instead 88.
Education and Knowledge
- Fluent in numerous alien languages and educated as an Asgardian prince 113.
- Recognizes Su Zhou’s Stigmata and its connection to the Divine Dimension 73.
- Knows Nidavellir’s location and has practical experience helping Eitri repair its forge 85.
Vulnerabilities
- Mental manipulation: Su Zhou repeatedly controls or alters his perceptions, including implanting a fabricated defeat by Thanos and obscuring his encounter with his future self 86 89 112.
- Emotional dependence on Mjolnir: Losing access to the hammer can leave him distracted or despondent 61 86 112.
- Declining fitness in the future timeline: Alcohol, inactivity, and ill-fitting armor undermine his battlefield performance despite his renewed motivation 86 89 97.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Mjolnir — His signature enchanted hammer, which has accompanied him for roughly a thousand years. It grants Thor’s power to worthy wielders, but Thor cannot simply recall it from another person’s hands. He later learns it originally belonged to Hela. Su Zhou eventually keeps it in Heaven for study and to prevent Thor from summoning it during his travels 60 112 182.
- Stormbreaker — The future Thor’s battle-axe, capable of channeling lightning and opening the Bifrost. He wields it against Thanos’s forces 86 88 89.
- Asgardian armor and red cape — Combat attire manifested through lightning. The future Thor’s attempt to wear his older armor restricts his movement and breathing 60 89 97.
- Prosthetic eye — Worn by his future counterpart 112.
History
Exile and Recovery of Mjolnir
After Thor nearly starts a war, Odin sends him to Earth without his divine power. Recovering Mjolnir is intended to demonstrate his growth, restore his power, and allow his return as Asgard’s crown prince. Su Zhou disrupts the trial by lifting the hammer first, causing Odin to retrieve it and send it back to a different location on Earth 53 54 61.
While Su Zhou is confined to Kamar-Taj’s library, Thor eventually recovers Mjolnir, defeats the Destroyer Armor, and returns to Asgard. The account notes that the hammer’s relocation delays its discovery 61.
Loki’s Invasion of Earth
Heimdall sends Thor to Earth using dark energy. Finding Su Zhou mistreating Loki, Thor attacks, only for Su Zhou to use Loki as both a shield and an improvised weapon. Su Zhou then takes Mjolnir, defeats both brothers, and demonstrates that Natasha can wield its power as Mighty Thor. Thor and Loki are subsequently placed in the Helicarrier’s glass cell 59 60 61.
Before the invasion, Steve returns Mjolnir at Su Zhou’s request. Su Zhou accepts that Thor came to stop Loki rather than conquer Earth and directs him to recover the Tesseract. Thor then joins the defense of New York 67 69.
During the battle, Loki feigns reconciliation and stabs him. Su Zhou treats the wound, and Thor explains that Odin has ordered him to find anyone bearing Stigmata and bring that person to Asgard as an honored friend 73 74.
Future Timeline: Nidavellir and Thanos
During Su Zhou’s visit to the future Avengers Compound, Thor is Asgard’s king but has fallen into heavy drinking and inactivity. He nevertheless offers to approach Eitri about forging another Infinity Gauntlet 83 85.
Su Zhou, Rocket, and Thor travel to Nidavellir. To revive Thor’s motivation, Su Zhou implants a memory of Thanos beating him because of his poor condition. Thor begins exercising during the journey. After seeing Eitri’s hands restored, he asks whether Su Zhou can also bring back his family 86 87.
When Thanos attacks the Avengers Compound, Thor cannot open the Bifrost, so Su Zhou brings the group back through a spatial portal. Thor arms himself with Mjolnir and Stormbreaker, although Su Zhou transfers Mjolnir to Steve before the charge. His constricting armor leaves him without a single kill during the battle; afterward, he largely feigns fainting out of embarrassment 88 89 97.
Return to Asgard and Jane’s Treatment
In the main timeline, Thor returns to Asgard with Su Zhou, Loki, and Sylvie for Loki’s trial. He supports the decision to make Loki live as a mortal, having himself benefited from that experience 106 108.
After suppressing rebellions across the Nine Realms, Thor brings Jane Foster to Asgard because the Aether has entered her body. Asgardian medicine cannot safely remove it. Su Zhou blocks Odin’s attempt to separate the couple and extracts the Reality Stone before Jane suffers extensive damage 110 111.
Encounter with His Future Self
The time-heist version of Thor arrives with Rocket and receives comfort from Frigga. When he summons Mjolnir, the present-day Thor grabs the departing hammer and is carried across Asgard into the meeting 111 112.
Both Thors refuse to surrender it until Su Zhou intervenes with Telepathy and Bullet Time. Su Zhou manipulates their memories to preserve the future travelers’ mission, allowing them to leave with the Reality Stone and Mjolnir. The present Thor is left anxiously searching for his missing weapon 112.
Dark Elf Attack
Thor immediately confronts the invading Dark Elf ship. As enemies pursue Jane because of her recent connection to the Aether, he entrusts her to Sylvie so he can fight more freely. Asgard wins the battle, while Su Zhou prevents Kurse from killing Frigga 114 115 117.
Departure from Asgard
Hela’s return unsettles Thor’s understanding of his family. He learns that his older sister is stronger, more accomplished, and the previous owner of Mjolnir. Although he has been trying to avoid becoming king, discovering that he was not actually first in succession still leaves him distressed 181 182.
With Odin’s permission, Su Zhou removes Thor from Asgard and leaves him unconscious in Yondu’s care. Yondu is instructed to place him on Star-Lord’s team; if Thor insists on returning home, the contingency is to send him to the Grandmaster’s arena. Su Zhou retains Mjolnir so Thor must gain experience without relying on it 182.
A later account describes Thor as living carefree while Frigga prepares Hela as an heir. Odin has accepted that Thor is not suited to be a wise ruler 246.
Relationships
- Odin — Father. His exile teaches Thor humility, but his hidden history and opposition to Jane cause tension. Odin later permits Su Zhou to take Thor away for further experience 54 110 182.
- Frigga — Mother. Her reassurance helps the future Thor confront his grief and recover confidence in his worthiness. She hopes to prevent her present-day son from suffering the same decline 111 112.
- Loki — Adopted younger brother. Thor loves him and repeatedly seeks reconciliation, despite Loki’s schemes and betrayals 62 67 74.
- Sylvie — Loki variant accepted as his younger sister. Thor finds her more endearing than Loki and later entrusts Jane’s protection to her 69 73 117.
- Hela — Older sister. Her return reveals the extent of Odin’s concealed past and overturns Thor’s assumptions about succession and Mjolnir 181 182.
- Jane Foster — Girlfriend. Thor brings her to Asgard for treatment despite Odin’s disapproval 110 111.
- Su Zhou — Friend, ally, and frequent tormentor. Su Zhou defends his relationship with Jane, protects his mother, and attempts to prevent his future collapse, while repeatedly taking Mjolnir and manipulating his mind 86 110 112 115 182.
- Sif — Childhood friend whom Odin wants him to marry. Thor does not reciprocate her romantic interest, but tries to protect her from provoking Su Zhou 109 110.
- Heimdall — Asgardian ally who transports him to Earth and warmly welcomes him home 59 106.
- Rocket — Traveling companion in the future timeline and partner during the time heist 86 111.
- Eitri — Dwarf King and friendly acquaintance. Thor previously helped repair his forge and believes he can request another Infinity Gauntlet from him 85.
