Biodata
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Name | Wade Wilson 151 |
| Alias(es) | Deadpool (死侍); “Idiot,” as Su Zhou frequently calls him 135 162 |
| Species/Race | Experimentally enhanced human; his healing ability was acquired independently of Wolverine, and Stryker’s anti-mutant weapon does not suppress it 149 |
| Gender | Male 135 |
| Affiliation | Accepts Professor X’s invitation to join the X-Men 147 |
| Occupation/Role | Former mercenary; antihero; inter-universe traveler carrying out an editor’s missions 140 147 150 |
| First Appearance | Chapter 135, encountered in a changing room inside the Time Variance Authority 135 |
Background
Wade acquired his regeneration through a scientific experiment rather than inheriting Wolverine’s healing factor. The narration distinguishes him from mutants on that basis, explaining why Colonel Stryker’s anti-mutant weapon leaves him conscious when the surrounding mutants collapse. He had also worked as a mercenary before his travels with Su Zhou 149 150.
Although Su Zhou initially associates his appearance with the Deadpool involved in the Time Variance Authority’s conflict over Wolverine and the Time Ripper, Wade identifies himself as a version that “hasn’t been published yet.” He later encounters a separate Deadpool traveling with Wolverine, confirming that Su Zhou’s companion is not the only Wade involved in those events 135 136 162 163.
Appearance
- Costume: A tight red-and-black suit with a matching mask, twin swords on his back, and pistol holsters at his thighs 135.
- Unmasked features: No eyebrows or facial hair; several strands of wig hair are attached to his head with staples when Su Zhou first meets him 135.
- X-Men uniform: Changes into a black, form-fitting team suit while retaining his red mask and weapon harnesses 152.
- Voice: Su Zhou notices that, despite his familiar appearance, he lacks the accent Su Zhou associates with the film version 136.
Personality
Deadpool is shameless, sexually forward, and almost incapable of leaving a conversation serious. He greets Su Zhou’s drawn gun with an innuendo, kisses Professor X through his mask upon introducing himself, and repeatedly derails urgent discussions with flirtation or jokes 135 147 150.
His regeneration encourages reckless behavior rather than caution. He challenges Su Zhou to find out whether bullets can kill him and increasingly abandons defensive swordsmanship in favor of trading injuries. Nevertheless, he still feels pain and objects to being repeatedly shot in the head 136 148 155.
His enthusiasm for crossovers and screen time can outweigh money. He rejects Su Zhou’s offer of two hundred thousand dollars to avoid the Apocalypse battle, reasoning that a regular role in X-Men could make him a major star. Beneath the performance, he can follow through on useful work: Su Zhou explicitly credits him with saving Havok 149 150 151.
Abilities & Skills
Regeneration
Deadpool recovers from catastrophic injuries, including gunshots through the brain, extensive burns, impalement, and limb loss 135 145 150 156.
- Repeatedly rises after Su Zhou shoots him in the head 135 136 147.
- Survives an exploding taxi and continues fighting Sandman 145.
- Regrows a severed arm, initially as a disproportionately small replacement 155 156.
- Heals faster than Wolverine, according to Su Zhou’s later comparison 168.
- Can still be rendered unconscious or temporarily incapacitated; regeneration does not prevent pain 136 148.
Swordsmanship & Reflexes
Deadpool possesses excellent swordsmanship and reflexes sufficient to slice bullets. His reliance on regeneration has led him to neglect those defensive techniques 155.
- Uses twin katanas to cut through armed soldiers and the lock on Wolverine’s Weapon X cell 150.
- Removes large quantities of sand from Sandman’s body, though Sandman repeatedly overwhelms him physically 145.
- Trades severe wounds with Psylocke while fighting alongside Beast; her psychic blade severs his right hand 155.
Firearms
- Carries and uses two Desert Eagles 135 156.
- His pistols are repeatedly confiscated by Su Zhou and later returned as part of their traveling arrangement 136 140.
Inter-Universe Travel & Plot Knowledge
Deadpool accesses routes between universes through unusual doorways. His destinations and activities are also tied to missions assigned by an editor 136 147.
- Takes Su Zhou from the TVA into a network of random doorways, eventually reaching a Spider-Man universe 136.
- Cannot reliably retrace the route: he admits he cannot find his own way home 136.
- Knows the plots of the Spider-Man and Apocalypse stories, including Venom’s sonic weakness and Quicksilver’s parentage 145 147 153.
- Treats universes as film settings and discusses actors, publication, screen time, and Marvel–DC crossovers 136 151 161.
Resistance to Telepathic Intrusion
- Su Zhou attempts to make him forget a familiar-looking sword, but Deadpool’s mind overwhelms the telepathic attempt 140.
- Professor X likewise finds his thoughts unbearable 147.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Adamantium katanas — His signature melee weapons. He recognizes Su Zhou’s katana as his own during the confrontation with Apocalypse’s Horsemen 135 153 154.
- Two Desert Eagles — Carried in thigh holsters; Su Zhou temporarily stores them in his spatial ring after shooting him 135 136.
- Red-and-black bodysuit and mask — His usual costume; he retains the red mask after receiving an X-Men uniform 135 152.
- Needle and thread — Produces these after surviving the taxi explosion and repairs his burned suit 145.
The Missing Katana
| Chapter | Development |
|---|---|
| 36 | Su Zhou obtains an Adamantium Blade through his system and suspects it belongs to a Deadpool from another universe. |
| 135 | Deadpool explains that someone stole one of his katanas and that he entered the TVA to find a replacement. Su Zhou privately connects this with the blade in his spatial ring. |
| 140 | Su Zhou unsuccessfully attempts to erase Deadpool’s interest in the familiar-looking weapon through telepathy. |
| 153 154 | Deadpool sees Su Zhou draw the katana and immediately identifies it as his sword. |
Relationships
- Su Zhou — Unwilling traveling companion and frequent collaborator. Su Zhou repeatedly shoots him out of frustration, but also frees him from captivity and helps arrange his approach to Spider-Man. Deadpool agrees to keep taking Su Zhou between worlds, using that dependence to keep him involved in missions 135 140 149 150.
- Peter Parker / Spider-Man — Romantic fixation. Deadpool is moved by Parker’s hardships and falls in love with his upright character; Su Zhou devises staged encounters intended to bring them closer. No reciprocal romance is established in the supplied events 141 142 145.
- Professor X — Prospective mentor and teammate. Deadpool enthusiastically accepts his invitation to join the X-Men, although Xavier finds Wade’s mind intolerable 147.
- Wolverine / Logan — Admired hero whom Deadpool frees from Weapon X imprisonment. Later calls Wolverine his favorite tough guy while discussing another Wade’s impending fight with him 150 162.
- Havok — Saved by Deadpool during the destruction of Xavier’s school, earning Su Zhou’s approval 148 149.
- Psylocke — Object of flirtation and battlefield opponent. His remarks provoke her into concentrating her attacks on him 153 155.
- Alternate Deadpool — Rival counterpart encountered alongside Wolverine. They argue over which is the “real” Deadpool and fight without attempting to block each other’s blades 162 163.
Story Role / Major Arcs
TVA Encounter and Spider-Man Universe
Su Zhou finds Deadpool in a TVA tailoring workshop while fleeing guards. After surviving a headshot, Wade explains his search for a replacement katana. He then leads Su Zhou through an inter-universe doorway, stranding them in the world where Spider-Man is fighting Doctor Octopus 135 136.
Deadpool refuses to leave before interacting with Spider-Man for his mission. Su Zhou negotiates continued passage between worlds in exchange for assistance, then develops a villain-and-team-up scenario intended to win Parker over 140 141.
The scheme escalates into Deadpool kidnapping Mary Jane and preparing a construction-site confrontation. Knowing Venom’s weakness, he removes the hollow steel pipes, but Su Zhou transmits a church bell’s sound through portals. Deadpool subsequently survives the taxi explosion and fights Sandman while Parker and Su Zhou watch 145.
Joining the X-Men and Fighting Apocalypse
After arriving at Xavier’s school, Deadpool reveals his assignment: help the young X-Men defeat Apocalypse, demonstrate his importance, and preferably deliver the killing blow himself. He accepts Xavier’s invitation to join the team and helps save Havok during the school’s destruction 147 148 149.
Following Stryker’s capture of the mutants, Su Zhou releases Deadpool and sends him into the Alkali Lake base. Wade frees the amnesiac Wolverine, survives being clawed through the head, and agrees to help rescue Professor X 149 150.
In Cairo, Storm’s lightning initially incapacitates him. He recovers and fights Psylocke beside Beast, losing a hand in the exchange. After Apocalypse’s defeat, Su Zhou demands that their next destination provide access to the TVA 154 155 156 161.
The Void and His Alternate Self
Deadpool and Su Zhou next encounter Wolverine and another Wade near a half-buried 20th Century Fox statue. The two Deadpools begin a bloody fight over their identities and the success of their films 162 163.
A gigantic electromagnet captures both Wades and Wolverine because of their adamantium equipment; a magnetically drawn Sentinel limb then crashes into all three. They are later awakened as Su Zhou prepares to stop Paradox’s Time Ripper plan, shortly before a crowd of more than a hundred Deadpools arrives 164 166 167.
