Early Life and Dorm Seven

Xiao Wu grew up in the Star Dou Great Forest. She recalls her mother teaching her not to accept rewards without earning them. During her first academy holiday, she says she does not intend to return home because nobody would be there 5 15 46.

Upon entering Nuoding Academy’s Dorm Seven, Xiao Wu defeated Wang Sheng after he demanded that newcomers recognize him as their leader. She also defeated Tang San, then challenged Qi Ling to establish her claim as dorm boss. Qi Ling offered her the position without a fight, but she insisted on earning it 5.

Their spar required Xiao Wu to force Qi Ling outside a circle. Her attacks exhausted her before she could dislodge him, and she lost her balance near a hard bed leg. Qi Ling stepped outside the circle to catch her and conceded under his own rules. Although Xiao Wu initially demanded a rematch rather than accept a rescue-assisted victory, she became Dorm Seven’s leader and quickly won the work-study students’ affection 5 6.

Defending the Work-Study Students

Xiao Wu intervened against Xiao Da’s bullying, prompting him to challenge her group. The rotating-bout format favored his side: he had four Soul Masters, while Xiao Wu was the only one among the work-study students present. Qi Ling returned before she entered the fight and took over with her full approval 9 10.

After Xiao Da’s defeat, Xiao Wu asked Qi Ling to stop his punishment, joking that he needed to remain fit enough to serve as her lackey. Qi Ling then made Xiao Da acknowledge her authority. Xiao Da subsequently paid for the students’ meal and promised to handle their work duties 11.

Xiao Wu also publicly supported Qi Ling against instructor Lu Xuan. When Lu Xuan expelled him for disputing his teachings, she denounced the instructor’s use of authority and walked out. Other students followed, proposing that they attend Yu Xiaogang’s lessons instead 12.

Becoming Sworn Siblings

During the academy break, Xiao Wu and Qi Ling accompanied Tang San to Holy Soul Village. After Tang San discovered that his father had left, they helped draw him out of his disappointment, cleaned his home, and shared a meal 15 16.

The three became sworn siblings, with Xiao Wu as the youngest sister. When she asked whether they would protect her against enemies stronger than themselves, Tang San and Qi Ling promised that such enemies would have to step over their corpses. Their answer moved her to tears. The three spent the holiday fishing, catching birds, and enjoying village life before returning to school 16.

Five years later, Xiao Wu graduated alongside her brothers. Although she questioned choosing Shrek over intermediate academies offering unconditional admission, she followed Yu Xiaogang’s recommendation and traveled with them 16.

Soul Beast Identity and Family

Xiao Wu’s true form is a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soft Bone Charm Rabbit. After she took human form, her original Soul Beast body became her Martial Soul. Her human appearance initially conceals this identity from most people, although Qi Ling knows the truth from the beginning 171 172 598 899.

Da Ming, the Sky Azure Bull Python, and Er Ming, the Titan Giant Ape, are close companions from the Star Dou Great Forest. Both defer to her as Sister Xiao Wu. She can openly scold the two powerful Soul Beasts without either daring to argue, particularly when they threaten Qi Ling 56.

Her mother was killed by Bibi Dong, who absorbed her Soul Ring. Xiao Wu consequently harbors deep resentment, but her mother’s final request that she not hate anyone, Bibi Dong’s subsequent changes, and Bibi Dong’s assistance in Spirit City complicate those feelings 530.

Reviving her mother becomes a central motivation for Xiao Wu’s later cultivation. She willingly accepts the permanent loss of her Martial Soul and Soul Power as the price, considering reunion with her mother more important than retaining her strength 598 765 790.

Personality

Xiao Wu is lively, competitive, and proud of her “Sister Xiao Wu” authority. She eagerly challenges others, refuses to concede during her first spar with Qi Ling, and readily confronts Dai Mubai or Canghui Academy’s students. Her pride includes a sense of fairness: she rejects both an unearned leadership position and a victory obtained only because Qi Ling saved her 5 6 18 44.

She is protective of the work-study students and outspoken against bullying. She challenges Xiao Da’s harassment and condemns Lu Xuan for using his teaching authority to silence Qi Ling. Despite her fierce manner, she also asks that Xiao Da’s punishment stop once he has been thoroughly subdued 9 11 12.

With her sworn brothers, Xiao Wu is affectionate and openly dependent on their company. She frequently hugs Qi Ling, asks him to carry her, and uses wheedling to win his agreement. Her confidence coexists with vulnerability: the possibility of facing powerful enemies frightens her, and her brothers’ unconditional promise of protection means deeply to her 16 17 19.

Her reliance on others does not prevent her from wanting to protect them in return. After the fighting against Spirit Hall, she explicitly says that she wants to grow stronger so Qi Ling and Tang San will not be hurt again. She later renews that resolve even after sacrificing her cultivation for her mother 456 992.

Her mother’s resurrection reveals her willingness to relinquish personal power for family. Rather than hesitate over becoming an ordinary person, she responds joyfully to the possibility of reviving her mother and expresses confidence that Qi Ling will continue protecting her 598.

Xiao Wu also has a mischievous, increasingly forthright side in her relationship with Qi Ling. She openly admits that he is the person she likes best, teases him about his investigative ability, and later encourages Zhu Zhuqing to join her in spying outside his room when Ning Rongrong stays with him 119 441 718.

During her long separation from Qi Ling, her usual liveliness gives way to longing. Er Ming observes that she has not been as happy in five years as she is upon their reunion; beside Qi Ling, she immediately returns to her more candid and playful manner 440.

Waist Bow is a Soul Skill used to support Xiao Wu’s throwing attacks. Her signature Eight-Stage Throw is a continuous sequence of eight throws that does not stop midway once launched 70.

• Tang San identifies her throws as the team’s best opportunity to decide their spar against Qi Ling in a single attack sequence. His plan lifts Qi Ling off the ground, removing the stable footing that previously prevented her from throwing him 70.

Connection with Qi Ling

The narration links this to their closeness, her unusual identity, and the affinity between her nature as a Soul Beast and his Divine Dragon Emperor Martial Soul. Her perception is initially described as applying only to Qi Ling 53.

She and Tang San later return when Qi Ling is endangered during the confrontation with Spirit Hall, demonstrating that his efforts to send them away do not prevent them from recognizing his peril 449.

Her presence also has a calming influence on Qi Ling. During their return to Heaven Dou City, she helps him temporarily bring his baleful Qi under control 511.

Loss of Cultivation and Possible Restoration

The abilities above describe Xiao Wu before her mother’s resurrection. During the ritual, her Martial Soul, Soul Power, and Soul Bone are removed, fulfilling the previously stated cost of becoming an ordinary person 598 899.

Dragon Maiden later explains that inheriting a Godhood could grant Xiao Wu power again, since not every divine trial depends on existing combat strength. The vacant Goddess of Freedom and Goddess of the Forest inheritances are both identified as suitable First-Level Godhoods. Xiao Wu chooses the forest-associated path, but completion of its trials is not established 926 992.

• Qi Ling — Eldest sworn brother and trusted protector.
