Background / History
March 7th is an amnesiac member of the Astral Express Crew. Dan Heng describes her as a girl frozen in ice, while March herself wishes to recover her old memories and explore her past 7 26.
Before Ye Yan’s return, she had already traveled with Dan Heng and participated in several Trailblaze expeditions. One embarrassing incident involved smashing a hole in the Taikiyan Grand Stadium, resulting in half a month of volunteer labor 29.
Her missing past also inspires playful speculation. By the visit to Herta Space Station, she has prepared seventy-seven possible backstories for herself, including ten newly invented by Ye Yan. These imagined identities include a leader of the Denizens of Abundance and a Masked Fool; neither is established as her actual origin 8.
Appearance
- Build: Short and described as cute 6.
- Hair: Pink and short 6 31.
- Self-image: Frequently calls herself a “pretty girl,” whether defending her combat ability or complaining about her repeated falls 12.
Personality
March is outgoing, talkative, and eager to explore. Himeko remarks that journeys are rarely boring with her around, and she readily befriends people such as Serval. She admits that being left without anyone to talk to makes her intensely bored 26 28 34.
Her enthusiasm often outweighs caution. She repeatedly tries to remain standing during Express warps despite falling, charges ahead of her companions at Herta Space Station, and taunts the Doomsday Beast before and during battle 7 15 27.
She is protective of her companions. Upon learning that Ye Yan found Stelle before she and Dan Heng did, she immediately challenges him for apparently leaving an unconscious girl in danger. She also insists that Stelle will remain an Express member when Ye Yan suggests recruiting her into the Church of Eternity 26 34.
March enjoys milk tea, photography, sightseeing, and pillow fights, but dislikes insects and deliberately cryptic explanations. She would rather fight Fragmentum monsters than catch bugs in the dark, and calls Ye Yan a “Riddler” when he withholds information 7 19 33 35.
Abilities & Skills
Six-Phased Ice
March creates and manipulates solid ice for weapons and support 6 15.
- Ice armaments: Summons a bow and arrows made from Six-Phased Ice 6.
- Platforms: Creates ice blocks beneath Stelle’s feet, allowing her to leap up to the Doomsday Beast’s face 15.
- Fall protection: Says her ice protects her when she falls, though landing on it can hurt more 12.
Archery and Close-Quarters Combat
March fights primarily at range but can use her bow as a melee weapon 12 30.
- Bats away a Voidranger attempting to engage her up close 12.
- Helps the expedition team fight Fragmentum creatures and Silvermane Guards 29 30 48.
- Deals very little damage to the Doomsday Beast with her arrows and regrets not requesting a weapon modification 15.
- Fails to land an ice arrow on Bronya during their confrontation in Backwater Pass 48.
Photography
March regularly photographs her travels, companions, and animals 12 20 30.
- Her photographs of Jarilo-VI help the team prove their identities to Gepard 30.
- She checks her camera immediately after a sudden boom knocks her down while photographing a blue planet 12.
- She hopes to take a commemorative photograph with the Aeon of [Eternity] if given the opportunity 26.
External Blessings and Resistances
- [Trailblaze] adaptation: Shares the expedition team’s blessing, which allows them to withstand Jarilo-VI’s biting cold 28.
- [Eternity] protection: Receives Ye Yan’s protection and concealment without noticing any physical discomfort or change 35.
- Temporary invisibility: Can stand directly before a Silvermane Guard without being seen, but the effect later expires 45 47.
- Knockout-gas resistance: Remains unaffected by Sampo’s gas alongside Stelle and Dan Heng; the cause is not explained 48.
Equipment / Items
- Bow and Six-Phased Ice arrows — Her regular combat equipment. Ye Yan promises to upgrade her weapon after the Jarilo-VI expedition, but the modification has not occurred in the supplied chapters 6 28 48.
- Camera — Used for travel photography and commemorative pictures 12 20.
- Pro MAX shower curtain — An IPC product advertised as soundproof, light-blocking, windproof, fleece-lined, and extra-thick; she supplies it to divide Ye Yan and Stelle’s shared storage-room accommodation 20.
Relationships
- Stelle — Close friend and fellow amnesiac. Stelle shields her from the Doomsday Beast’s beam; afterward, they frequently explore, shop, and have pillow fights together 15 26 36 37.
- Dan Heng — Long-standing teammate whose caution balances her impulsiveness. He protects her during the Legion attack and helps explain unfamiliar situations during their travels 12 29 35.
- Ye Yan — Express companion whom she teasingly claims as her “junior” because he joins the current crew after her. His cooking wins her over, and she increasingly relies on his protection and promised weapon upgrade 7 28 35 50.
- Himeko — Navigator and trusted senior. March stands down when Himeko identifies Ye Yan as friendly; Himeko later assigns her to the Jarilo-VI expedition 6 28.
- Welt Yang — Calls him “Uncle Yang.” He checks on her after an unexpected fall and seriously considers obtaining armor for her 6 12.
- Pom-Pom — Conductor and frequent foil to her antics, especially her refusal to sit safely during warps 7.
- Sampo — Distrusts him after he abandons the team to the Silvermane Guards. She kicks the sack containing him after Ye Yan captures him 30 31.
- Serval Landau — Quickly becomes friendly with her and expresses enthusiasm for Serval’s band, Mechanical Fever 34.
- Hook — Agrees to play hide-and-seek as the condition for joining The Moles and learning Ye Yan’s whereabouts 49.
- Fuli — Ye Yan notices “traces” of the Aeon of [Remembrance] about her. His remark does not establish the nature of their connection 6.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Ye Yan’s Return to the Express
March first appears after the Express collides with Ye Yan. His remark about her resembling a “peeping tom” provokes her into drawing her ice bow, but Himeko assures her that he is not an enemy 6.
Over the following days, his cooking and gifts of milk tea win her over. After deciding that he counts as the newest passenger, she gleefully declares him her junior and asks for a shoulder massage 7.
Herta Space Station
During the Antimatter Legion invasion, March fights alongside Dan Heng and helps recover the newly awakened Stelle. She reassures Stelle about the situation and escorts her while Dan Heng searches for Arlan 12 14.
At the platform, March provokes the Doomsday Beast into attacking. Her arrows cause little damage, but her ice platforms enable Stelle to strike its face. When the monster targets March with a powerful beam, Stelle intercepts it, triggering the crisis involving her internal Stellaron. Ye Yan suppresses the Stellaron and takes the beast away to finish the battle 15 16.
Jarilo-VI and Belobog
Himeko assigns March, Stelle, Dan Heng, and Ye Yan to find Jarilo-VI’s Stellaron. March’s photographs help establish their extraterrestrial origins to Gepard after their encounter with Sampo leads to a clash with the Silvermane Guards 28 30.
In Belobog, she explores the city and visits Serval’s workshop. Initially optimistic about Cocolia’s cooperation, she later discovers guards gathering to arrest the team. Ye Yan’s concealment lets the trio observe the operation and follow Bronya into Backwater Pass, where their invisibility expires 34 35 45 47.
The resulting confrontation ends with Sampo intervening and taking the group to the Underworld. March then wins information about Ye Yan’s location through Hook’s hide-and-seek game and reunites with him after his Fight Club match, recounting the morning’s troubles 48 49 50.
Notable Quotes
“Never! Give! Up!”
— Defending her repeated attempts to stay standing during a warp 7.
“I'd be better off asking them to chat with me a little longer! Then I'd take a picture with them at the end as a keepsake.”
— On what she would request from the Aeon of [Eternity] 26.
Trivia
- Her claim to have been the Express’s undefeated number-one pillow fighter rests on nobody having agreed to play against her. Stelle subsequently defeats her 37.
- She originally keeps twenty pillows in her room; only twelve remain after Ye Yan and Stelle’s accommodation is prepared 20.
- She feeds Peppy a large quantity of dog food whenever the Express visits the station and asks whether the crew could keep a dog aboard 20.
