Personality

Benji initially takes considerable pride in his Demigod status and resents being threatened by the much weaker Leo. He is pragmatic and deeply concerned with his descendants’ survival. During negotiations, he seeks legal status and protection for his people before accepting an unequal battle-partner arrangement. Once committed, however, he is capable of sacrificing individual clansmen—even his own son—to buy the time needed to prevent the clan’s total destruction 60 65 71 72.

Away from battle, Benji is lazy, gluttonous, and fond of comfort. History

Possession Attempt and Imprisonment

Driven by curiosity, Benji sent a consciousness avatar into a spatial rift. When the collision of worlds altered Leo’s bloodline, Benji attempted to possess him and exploit the resulting Shadow Origin Power—a possible means of overcoming his centuries-long stagnation at the Demigod level. The collision overwhelmed him, leaving the avatar trapped inside Leo 13 64.

Through Leo’s studies, Benji discovered the Wizard World’s record of enslaving other worlds. Fearing that his presence endangered both his main body and his homeland, he tried to dissipate his avatar, but the Energy Sealing Technique prevented him from doing so. Leo persuaded him that helping Leo grow stronger was his only viable route to survival 12 58.

Benji subsequently taught Leo the shadow-awakening technique and assisted with bodily measurements during his nuclear-material experiments. When Leo finally entered his own sea of consciousness, he found Benji suspended in golden chains; the avatar had endured approximately forty years of confinement 13 49 58.

Battle Partner Contract

After witnessing the Purple Flame Stigmata Wizard’s power, Benji accepted that his homeland could not resist wizard civilization. He initially demanded second-class native status for himself and his subjects, then requested a soul partnership. Leo rejected both proposals and offered only an ordinary Battle Partner Contract 60.

The resulting Wizard’s Oath required Leo to respect Benji’s life and consciousness, guarantee the survival of Benji and his race, and never abandon him. Despite those protections, Leo remained the master and controlled Benji’s life and death. Once the contract was established, Leo removed the seal and brought the avatar out of his sea of consciousness 60.

Benji then disclosed everything he knew about Jeft World and arranged for Leo to enter through his territory. His main body reluctantly accepted the consequences of the contract brought back by the avatar 61 64.

Defense of the Jeft World Passage

Benji committed his entire clan to protecting Leo’s altar: himself as its sole Level Three, five Level Two experts, 107 Level One experts, and roughly one hundred thousand unranked members. Their objective was to hold off retaliation long enough for the passage to admit the wizard army 65.

He annihilated an investigating Dark Night squad and later fought Grand Archbishop Samayev while the Gulu defended the ground. After Samayev retreated, Benji killed the remaining Level Two enemies. Leo then supplied two nuclear bombs, which Benji entrusted to Yaofengla and Zhengqianya despite knowing their mission was almost certainly fatal 68 69 70.

The final assault brought three hundred thousand Dark Night soldiers and overwhelming numbers of ranked fighters. Benji kept the defenders focused on buying time, refusing even his son’s plea to intervene prematurely. Three enemy Demigods eventually overwhelmed him while the clan’s remaining Level Two fighters were killed 70 72 73.

By the time the passage opened, Benji had lost an eye, most of his tails, and his claws, and was covered in wounds exposing bone. Fewer than two thousand of the original hundred thousand Gulu remained alive, all injured. He nevertheless descended to protect the survivors 76.

Service Beside Leo

In the Wizard World, Benji cultivated land around Leo’s tower and remained a regular attendant. During the Black Tomb World expedition, he fought Eyeless Spiders, helped bring the unconscious Leo back with Alice, and led their squad away from ten pursuing Level Three spiders 86 99 106 113.

Leo’s life-enhancement research later gave Benji his first sustained increase in strength in over a century. The successful treatment also demonstrated that other Gulu Beasts could be strengthened, and Leo reserved a protected area in his tower for the clan 130.

Benji served as a frontline combatant during the Giant World campaign and helped establish relations with Wakeda’s tribe. At the giants’ accession ceremony, he intervened between Wakeda and Kaba before their dispute could escalate into a wider battle 158 159 177 187.

Death and Puppet Animation

During the confrontation with the Fire Elemental Spirit army, Benji was already gravely wounded before the Purple Flame Stigmata Wizard appeared. He offered to hold the wizard off so Leo and Alice could escape, but could not delay him for long 362 364.

Leo later recovered Benji’s charred, hollowed corpse without having witnessed the killing itself. Benji’s eventual recollection established that the Purple Flame Stigmata Wizard had extracted his soul at the moment of death. Leo promised to care for the Gulu Beast race 364 893.

Using the New Godslaying Staff, Leo repaired the preserved corpse and animated it as a silent puppet. The body followed him into battle again, fought in the Ant God World, and later carried the critically injured Leo out of the Gnoll World 433 439 500.

Resurrection and World Lord Ascension

More than three thousand years after Benji’s death, Xiao Si supplied an intact body and Leo restored Benji by placing his soul inside it. Benji experienced the intervening millennia as little more than an instant 893.

Yaoyao showed him how far their forces had expanded. The Gulu Beast Clan now numbered hundreds of billions and occupied dozens of worlds. Benji spent more than half a year learning about Leo’s rise to Level Six, Alice’s death, and the break with the Wizard World 893.

To reward his loyalty, Leo selected the Tuhun Great World as the basis for Benji’s advancement, despite his not having reached the Level Three limit.
