Background / History

Previous Life

Tang San was an outer-sect disciple of the original Tang Sect. Seeking further advancement, he stole the inner sect’s Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record and mastered its contents, including techniques forbidden to outsiders 3 4.

Pursued by the sect’s elders, he demonstrated several secret arts and left behind a Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus. At Ghost’s Sorrow, he removed his clothes and jumped into the abyss. Tang Wutong interprets this as proof of his loyalty; Gu Yuena instead considers his death an irresponsible waste of talent the sect needed 3.

When the Sky Screen exposes this history, the young Tang San admits the theft but argues that he repaid the original Tang Sect with his life. He identifies his present self as Tang San of Shrek Academy 4.

Childhood in Holy Soul Village

In his new life, Tang San grew up as Tang Hao’s son and practiced the Mysterious Heaven Skill before his Martial Soul awakening. As a small child, he cooked for himself and cared for his frequently drunken father 4.

Old Jack brought him to awaken his Martial Souls under Su Yuntao. Tang Hao initially reacted poorly to Blue Silver Grass and opposed his schooling, but changed his attitude when Tang San revealed the Clear Sky Hammer. He instructed his son to use the hammer to protect the grass 5.

Nuoding Academy

At Nuoding Soul Master Academy, Tang San accepted Yu Xiaogang as his teacher after Yu deduced that he possessed twin Martial Souls. Tang San dismissed other teachers’ warnings about Yu’s reputation, believing the deduction demonstrated genuine expertise 8 9.

He met Xiao Wu in Dorm Seven, where she narrowly defeated him and became the dormitory’s leader. He later helped her confront Xiao Chenyu, registered for Spirit Hall’s Soul Master subsidy, and earned additional money as a smithy apprentice 9 18.

After returning to Holy Soul Village and discovering that Tang Hao had left, Tang San asked Xiao Wu to become his younger sister. He promised to protect her even against enemies stronger than himself 18.

Personality

Tang San is intensely protective of Xiao Wu. He reaffirms his support after her Soul Beast identity is exposed and reacts furiously when she is injured during Zhao Wuji’s entrance test. His future self likewise states that he would again choose to stand in front of her, despite the danger 6 19 25.

He places great importance on loyalty to teachers and family. He treats Yu Xiaogang’s acceptance as a defining good decision and repeatedly mediates disputes between Yu and Tang Hao. However, the Sky Screen gradually makes him question Yu’s judgment, particularly the choice of his first Soul Ring 4 15 16.

He is also secretive and capable of deliberate deception. He hides his Clear Sky Hammer, prepares concealed weapons when sensitive information is exposed, and pretends that his victory over the Mandala Snake was mere luck to conceal his Tang Sect techniques 5 8 14.

As a god, Tang San is more openly calculating about the lower realm. He regards Tang Wutong as an important piece in his plan to influence the Child of Destiny, and her disappearance disrupts his arrangements 2 18.

Abilities & Skills

Twin Martial Souls

  • Blue Silver Grass — Carries the Blue Silver Emperor bloodline inherited from Ah Yin. Qian Renxue identifies this heritage as a flaw in Yu Xiaogang’s assumption that it is ordinary roadside grass 7 8.
  • Clear Sky Hammer — His initially concealed second Martial Soul. During the fight with Zhao Wuji, its unexpected weight and force injure Zhao’s face when he mistakes it for another hidden weapon 5 25.

Blue Silver Grass Soul Skills

Skill Applications Demonstrated Limits
First Soul Skill: Entanglement Attacks within fifty meters and restrains targets with Blue Silver Grass. Its Mandala Snake-derived effect causes paralysis 16. The poison is not lethal. Dai Mubai’s White Tiger Vajra Transformation breaks it despite having only one more Soul Ring, contradicting Yu Xiaogang’s claim that two additional rings would be necessary 16 19.
Second Soul Skill: Parasite Binds Zhao Wuji with Blue Silver Grass, creating an opening for poisons and hidden weapons 25. Its acquisition and Soul Ring source are not shown in the supplied account.

Tang Sect Secret Arts

Tang San retains the original Tang Sect’s teachings across lives 3 4.

  • Mysterious Heaven Skill — Practiced during childhood before his Martial Soul awakening 4.
  • Purple Demon Eye, Mysterious Jade Hand, and Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon — Among the secret techniques displayed during his previous-life escape from the Tang Sect elders 3.
  • Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — Footwork used against Zhao Wuji; Zhao counters his movement with Gravity Enhancement and Position Tracking 25.
  • Combined combat use — His secret arts allow him to kill the Mandala Snake at rank ten without a Soul Ring and later threaten a Soul Saint during Shrek’s entrance test 14 25.

Hidden Weapons and Poisons

  • Keeps concealed weapons ready in his sleeves, including during his encounters with the Nuoding gatekeeper and Yu Xiaogang 8.
  • Combines hidden weapons, footwork, Soul Skills, and Tang Sect poisons to pressure Zhao Wuji 25.
  • Uses deception to hide the true basis of his combat strength, most notably after killing the Mandala Snake 14.

Forging

  • Demonstrates the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer while seeking work as a smithy apprentice 18.
  • Uses the smithy job as an income source alongside Spirit Hall’s subsidies 18.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record — The stolen inner-sect manual he mastered in his previous life 3.
  • Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus — A product of his previous-life work, left behind for the original Tang Sect before his jump from Ghost’s Sorrow 3.
  • Concealed sleeve weapons — Prepared for use when he perceives a threat or risks exposure 8.
  • Dragon Whisker Needles — Made from hair crystal obtained cheaply from Flender; successfully strike Zhao Wuji during the entrance test 25.
  • Tang Sect poisons — Deployed alongside Parasite and hidden weapons against Zhao Wuji 25.

Relationships

  • Xiao Wu — Childhood companion, sworn younger sister, and future wife. They protect one another despite her identity as a hundred-thousand-year Soft Bone Rabbit; the Divine Realm couple recalls both his defense of her and her sacrifice for him 7 18 19.
  • Tang Wutong / Xiao Qi — Daughter and initially an enthusiastic defender of his reputation. His divine self intends to use her lower-realm journey to influence the Child of Destiny. Later discussion connects her sealed memories and planned male disguise at Shrek Academy to a possible larger scheme 1 2 18 27.
  • Tang Hao — Father. Tang San grows up caring for him, but is deeply moved to learn that Tang Hao secretly watched over his Soul Beast hunt. Tang Hao publicly reaffirms their father–son bond after the transmigration revelation 4 6 15.
  • Ah Yin — Mother and a hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor. Tang Wutong knows that Tang San eventually revives her 5 7.
  • Yu Xiaogang — Teacher, whom Tang San initially reveres as a father figure. Exposure of Yu’s questionable theories weakens that confidence, though Tang San continues mediating his arguments with Tang Hao 8 15 16.
  • Qian Renxue — Future divine enemy whom he defeats. Learning this future leads the younger Qian Renxue to consider killing him before he becomes a god 2 3 7.
  • Lin Hao — Presenter of the footage and commentary exposing Tang San’s secrets. His broadcasts embarrass the young Tang San and anger the divine Tang San 4 11 18.
  • Gu Yuena — Regards his previous-life suicide as foolish and becomes wary of his childhood acting ability and later influence over Douluo Star 3 5 14.
  • God of Destruction — A constraint on his divine activities. Tang San blames this god’s scrutiny for limiting his ability to support the Tang Sect and Shrek in the lower realm 18.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Sky Screen Revelations

  • Tang San’s divine self recognizes Xiao Qi on the Sky Screen, while his younger self learns that he will become both Sea God and Asura God 1 2.
  • The broadcast exposes his previous life, twin Martial Souls, concealed techniques, and private childhood moments to viewers across multiple timelines 3 4 5 14.
  • Lin Hao characterizes his reincarnation as possessing Tang Hao’s child. This accusation unsettles Tang Wutong and prompts widespread criticism of Tang San’s origins 4.
  • Revelation of his apprenticeship causes Bibi Dong to recall the forces she had sent to kill him because of her attachment to Yu Xiaogang 8 9.

Reassessment of His First Soul Ring

  • The footage shows Tang San agreeing to test Yu Xiaogang’s unproven cross-category Soul Ring theory by absorbing a Mandala Snake ring 15.
  • His older childhood self recognizes that poisonous, tough plant-type Soul Beasts could have offered alternatives, prompting doubts about his teacher 16.
  • Dai Mubai’s account of breaking Entanglement exposes the gap between Yu Xiaogang’s claims and the skill’s actual performance 16 19.

Shrek Entrance Test

  • After Xiao Wu suffers backlash from using Charm on Zhao Wuji, Tang San challenges the examiner alone 25.
  • He combines Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, Parasite, poisons, Dragon Whisker Needles, and the Clear Sky Hammer to win the match, despite Zhao escalating to his fifth Soul Skill 25.
  • The result does not establish superiority over a fully unleashed Soul Saint: Qian Renxue explicitly recognizes that Zhao Wuji still had not used his full strength 25.
  • Tang Hao subsequently confronts Zhao Wuji over the treatment of his son 26.

Disrupted Divine Plans

  • Tang Wutong’s disappearance deprives the divine Tang San of his intended means of drawing the Child of Destiny into his plans 2 18.
  • The broadcast challenges his family’s triumphant image by contrasting Spirit Hall’s earlier commoner benefits with the reduced support available in later eras 17 18.
  • Discussion of Tang Wutong’s sealed memories raises suspicion about his intentions among Gu Yuena, Qian Renxue, and Shrek head Mu En; the complete purpose remains unrevealed 27.

Trivia

  • Tang San calculates that he received approximately 36 Gold Soul Coins over three years as a Soul Master and nearly 360 over three years as a Soul Grandmaster—more than he earned as a smithy apprentice 18.
  • “Mother’s Entanglement” is Lin Hao’s joke about the connection between Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass skill and his Blue Silver Emperor mother, not a separate ability 17.
  • The Blue Silver Pole Vault and God of Lone Bamboo sequence belongs to a parody shown on the Sky Screen, not Tang San’s actual cultivation progression 13 14.
