Background / History

Origin and Previous Life

Tang Shan is a separate person from Tang San, who remains in the Divine Realm. Lin Huan creates her as a female counterpart with an entirely new soul, initially intending to use her for a future confrontation between the original and counterpart characters. The narration describes him as her creator and, in that sense, a father unrelated by blood 17 18 19 20.

Her previous-life memories place her in the Bashu Tang Sect. The sect dismissed women’s ability to master its secret arts, and an elder assigned her to an inner disciple as a concubine. She mastered the techniques to prove herself and avoid that fate, but was subsequently hunted by the sect and leaped off Hell’s Peak 17 28.

Life in Holy Soul Village

In her current life, Tang Shan grows up as Tang Hao and Ah Yin’s daughter. Tang Hao calls her Tang Zhaodi, resents her for being a girl, and blames her birth for the circumstances leading to Ah Yin’s death. He also interprets her unusual Tang Sect techniques as evidence that his daughter has been possessed 17 28.

Tang Shan cooks and supports the household while enduring beatings and neglect. Village Chief Old Jack occasionally feeds her; without his help, she believes she would have starved. Despite this treatment, she initially treasures having a father and remains reluctant to disobey him 17 18 28.

When Tang Hao threatens to kill her if she awakens her Martial Soul, she flees to the mountain behind the village. There, Lin Huan feeds her, explains Soul Masters, and offers to perform her awakening 17 18.

Appearance

  • Blue hair and a small build: Repeatedly described as a little blue-haired girl 17 18.
  • Initially severely underfed: Hunger leaves her little more than skin and bones; makeshift cloth bandages cover injuries on her arms 17.
  • Later clothing: After joining Lin Huan’s household, she bathes and changes into a new dress and comfortable, well-made clothes 33.

Personality

Tang Shan longs for familial affection after experiencing rejection in both lives. Food, reassurance, and physical affection from Lin Huan move her to tears. She becomes intensely grateful to him, promises to repay his kindness, and offers to care for him in his old age 18 28 33.

Her thinking is strongly shaped by traditional filial duty. Even after Tang Hao attempts to kill her, she initially refuses to strike him because he is her father. She later insists on kneeling and kowtowing to acknowledge Lin Huan as her master, despite his objections 28 32 33.

Her gentleness toward Lin Huan contrasts with her ruthlessness toward enemies. She comes to want Tang Hao dead and kills the servants who attempted to murder Huo Yun’er and Huo Yutong. She is also fiercely defensive of Lin Huan, immediately challenging Lin Xiaozi’s accusation that he abducts girls 28 29 31 32.

Abilities & Skills

Blue Silver Grass

Her right-hand Martial Soul becomes substantially tougher after she absorbs the Ten-Year Solitary Bamboo Soul Spirit 18.

  • Entanglement: Following Lin Huan’s advice, she manipulates the grass like an additional hand to bind opponents 32.
  • Leaf projectiles: Plucks leaves, imbues them with internal power, and throws them as improvised weapons 32.
  • Limit: Two-Ring Soul Grandmasters tear through her entanglement with their second Soul Skills. She judges her hidden-weapon attacks more effective at this stage 32.

First Soul Skill: Blue Silver Pole Vault

Also called Blue Silver Lone Bamboo Pole Vault, this weapon-type skill produces a tough blue-silver bamboo pole 18.

  • Mobility: Uses the pole to vault three meters into the air during her first demonstration 18.
  • Thrown weapon: Combines it with Tang Sect throwing techniques to spear a running rabbit 18.
  • Close combat: Strikes opponents and blocks claw attacks with the pole 32.
  • Enhancement: Activating the skill increases her Blue Silver Grass’s toughness by twenty percent 18.
  • Limits: The pole can snap under attack and cannot pierce a human skull. She compensates by targeting the eyes with its pointed broken ends 32.

Clear Sky Hammer

Her left-hand Martial Soul establishes her as a twin-Martial-Soul user 18.

  • Lin Huan warns her to conceal it from Spirit Hall because of its feud with the Clear Sky Sect 18.
  • Tang Hao later cites the hammer as evidence that she is his child 28.

Tang Sect Secret Arts

Tang Shan retains techniques mastered in her previous life and combines them with her Martial Soul abilities 17 18 28 32.

  • Purple Demon Eye: Uses purple-lit eyes to track a running rabbit and observe Huo Yun’er and Huo Yutong from a distance 18 31.
  • Mysterious Jade Hand: Produces a jade-like glow on her hands; used defensively, to grip a branch, and when striking Tang Hao 28 32.
  • Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon: Helps neutralize part of Tang Hao’s kick and supports her defense against a servant’s claw attack 28 32.
  • Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track: Provides evasive footwork and a rapid retreat in combat 32.
  • All or Nothing: Throws her bamboo weapon with enough force to impale a rabbit 18.
  • Hundred Hidden Weapon Methods — Upside-Down Floating Light: Launches multiple bamboo blades at opponents 32.
  • Equipment limitation: Has not yet forged proper hidden weapons during the mansion battle, relying instead on bamboo blades, leaves, and broken pole sections 32.

Equipment / Items

  • Ten-Year Solitary Bamboo Soul Spirit — Given to her by Lin Huan; supplies her first white Soul Ring and strengthens her Blue Silver Grass 18.
  • Three Storage Soul Tools — Looted from the White Tiger Duke’s Mansion servants. Lin Huan allows her to keep them as her spoils and explains that they operate through injected Soul Power 32.

Relationships

  • Lin Huan — Creator, rescuer, master, and father figure. He feeds her, awakens her Martial Souls, gives her a Soul Spirit, saves her from Tang Hao, and brings her into his household. She becomes his first disciple rather than an adopted daughter because she remains sensitive about the word “father” 18 28 32 33.
  • Tang Hao — Her abusive father, whom she ultimately rejects. After Lin Huan suggests that he might be a human trafficker, she accepts that explanation, strikes him, and vows to kill him once strong enough. The trafficking claim is her belief, not an established fact 17 28 29.
  • Ah Yin — Her deceased mother. Tang Hao blames Tang Shan’s birth for Ah Yin’s death, while Tang Shan grows up without maternal care 17 28.
  • Old Jack — Village chief and childhood benefactor. His occasional help keeps her from starving; she remembers him as one of the only people to show her warmth 18 28.
  • Huo Yutong — A fellow neglected daughter whose plight Tang Shan identifies with. She envies Huo Yutong’s loving mother and attacks the servants attempting to kill them 31 32.
  • Lin Xiaozi — A member of her new household. Their first meeting becomes confrontational when Tang Shan defends Lin Huan against Xiaozi’s accusation of abduction 32.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Awakening and Escape from Tang Hao

  • Accepts Lin Huan’s help despite her fear of Tang Hao, awakens twin Martial Souls, and acquires her first Soul Ring 18.
  • Returns home and reveals her abilities, briefly hoping that Tang Hao’s response signals a change in his attitude 27 28.
  • Survives his attempted killing when Lin Huan intercepts the Clear Sky Hammer and heals her injuries 28.
  • Leaves with Lin Huan after rejecting Tang Hao, making a throat-slitting gesture toward him as they depart 29.

White Tiger Duke’s Mansion

  • Witnesses the attempt to burn Huo Yun’er and Huo Yutong alive and asks permission to attack the perpetrators 31.
  • Knocks one servant unconscious and kills the other two by throwing pointed bamboo sections into their eyes 31 32.
  • Collects their Storage Soul Tools and disposes of the bodies in the burning woodshed under Lin Huan’s instructions 32.

Joining Lin Huan’s Household

  • Formally acknowledges Lin Huan as her master and joins the household alongside Wang Dong’er and Na’er 32 33.
  • Celebrates becoming his first disciple at a family feast, then accompanies the group to Eastsea City 33.
  • Undergoes mental-power testing at the Spirit Pagoda, where her score of eighty surprises her because it falls below several other children’s results despite her Purple Demon Eye cultivation 34.
