Background / History

Blazing Fire Academy

Huo Wu grew up at Blazing Fire Academy, where her father, Huo Tian’en, served as dean. She became the vice-captain of its team, led by her elder brother, Huo Wushuang. She was the team’s only female Soul Master and was doted on by her brother and teammates 1 4 46.

Huo Tian’en regarded the generation built around his two children as potentially the strongest in the academy’s history. During an expedition through the Flame Phoenix Forest, Huo Wu recognized a distant phoenix cry and estimated that its source possessed at least fifty thousand years of cultivation 1.

Capture and Life on Phoenix Emperor Mountain

Yan Buhui intercepted the academy group, surrounded them with Ultimate Fire, and restrained them with his Phoenix Heart-Devouring Chain. Unable to escape, Huo Wu agreed to become his wife in exchange for the release of her father, brother, and teammates. He freed them and carried her to Phoenix Emperor Mountain 3 4.

Her initial agreement was made under coercion. Yan Buhui subsequently invoked threats against her family when asking her to bear his child, while she recognized that she could neither escape nor alter her circumstances 5.

During their time together, Huo Wu developed affection for him and began addressing him as “husband.” After discovering her pregnancy, they discussed names for their child, and Yan Buhui gave her resources to strengthen her cultivation 7 8 9. She later stated that she did not resent her abduction and defended him as someone she trusted; these later statements contrast with the circumstances of her capture 9 16 17.

The Four Elements Academy Rescue Attempt

When the Four Elements Academy arrived to rescue her, Huo Wu repeatedly asked Yan Buhui not to hurt or kill the visitors. She appeared before her father and brother to reassure them that she was doing well 10 11.

She objected when Yan Buhui demanded the seven Skywater Academy women as the price for sparing the rescuers. After he nevertheless kept them on the mountain, he instructed them to obey Huo Wu. She reassured the newcomers about her treatment and spoke warmly of his cooking 12 14.

Pregnancy and Return Home

Huo Wu wanted to accompany Yan Buhui to the Star Dou Great Forest, but he refused because she was pregnant. She remained on Phoenix Emperor Mountain with the Skywater women, who also became pregnant. Before leaving, he supplied all eight women with Green Lotus Core Flame seeds and arranged assistance from his guardian Soul Beasts for future Soul Ring hunts 23 25 26.

When Yan Buhui returned with Yao Zi and Mu Yunteng, Huo Wu joined the other women in welcoming him and meeting the new additions to his household 39.

Yan Buhui eventually escorted her back to Blazing Fire Academy, fulfilling his promise to let her visit her family. After their reunion, she tearfully said goodbye to her father and brother and left with him. Feng Xiaotian’s final challenge over her ended with Yan Buhui defeating him and destroying his Martial Soul 46 47.

Later Life in Yan Buhui’s Household

Before another expedition to the Star Dou Great Forest, Yan Buhui discussed his plan to capture the Three-Eyed Golden Lion with Huo Wu and his other wives. He entrusted the pregnant women with caring for themselves during his absence. After returning with Wang Qiu’er and several powerful Soul Beasts, he reunited with his ten pregnant wives, who welcomed him and tended to him 51 59.

Huo Wu later spoke with Yan Buhui about his plans to confront the continent’s major forces and visit Slaughter City. Before departing again, he assured his household that Blazing Fire Academy, Plant Academy, and Skywater Academy would not be harmed 63 64.

She was present when Yan Buhui returned with Bibi Dong, Hu Liena, Zhu Zhuyun, Zhu Zhuxue, and Xue Yingzi. His wives agreed to his proposal to expand their accommodations, and he carved and furnished three additional caves on Phoenix Emperor Mountain, leaving their allocation to the women 98.

Birth of Yan Xing and Yan Fengwu

When Huo Wu went into labor, Yan Buhui took Bibi Dong to Heaven Dou City to urgently obtain a midwife, then returned to Phoenix Emperor Mountain. Yao Zi informed him that the seven Skywater women were also about to give birth. Bibi Dong assisted the midwife in delivering Huo Wu’s children 101.

Huo Wu delivered boy-and-girl twins and named them Yan Xing and Yan Fengwu. Although the couple had earlier selected Yan Xingtian as a possible boy’s name, their son’s name at birth was Yan Xing. Both children inherited the Divine Phoenix Bloodline; Yan Xing received the Xingtian Axe, while Yan Fengwu received the Fuxi Zither, both divine artifacts 8 101.

Yan Buhui subsequently left Huo Wu in Wang Qiu’er’s company while he checked on the other women in labor. Following the births of thirteen children across the household, he ordered a thirteen-day celebration and rest period throughout the Land of Extreme Flame and prohibited hunting during the festivities 102 104.

Huo Wu is strong-willed, observant, and protective of those close to her. During the initial confrontation, she calms herself enough to examine Yan Buhui’s fire barrier rather than joining the others’ ineffective attacks. She accepts his marriage demand to secure her companions’ release and insists that she will keep her promise 3 4 46.

Her concern for others persists after she becomes attached to Yan Buhui. She repeatedly asks him to spare the rescuers and challenges his demand for the Skywater women 10 12. She also recognizes that some undisclosed reason lies behind his determination to capture her, prompting him to acknowledge that he has motives he cannot reveal 9.

With Yan Buhui, she becomes affectionate and teasing without entirely abandoning her criticism. She tells him to learn human manners, mocks his shameless boasting, and questions the difficulty of his plans to conquer the continent 6 8 43.

She remains attached to her family and academy despite her commitment to Yan Buhui. She asks to share news of her pregnancy with her father and brother, longs to see them during her absence, and tearfully parts from them after her visit home 8 9 47.

Her concern for Yan Buhui includes caution about his military ambitions. Before his first Star Dou Great Forest expedition, she warns him about the Titan Giant Ape and Sky Azure Bull Python’s exceptional strength, even while wishing to accompany him 23.
