Background / History
Skywater Academy
Shui Yue’er and her older sister, Shui Bing’er, are daughters of Skywater Academy’s dean, Shui Wei’er. Their mother regards them as the academy’s most gifted talents, potential successors, and strongest prospects for producing a Titled Douluo. The academy has never previously produced a cultivator of that rank 12 47.
Together with Xue Wu, Yu Hairou, Qiu Ruoshui, Shen Liuyu, and Gu Qingbo, she belongs to the Seven Beauties of Skywater. The seven are also known for a passionate dance that has made their troupe famous across the continent and overseas 45.
Failed Rescue and Capture
Shui Yue’er joins the Four Elements Academy expedition to rescue Huo Wu from Yan Buhui. During the confrontation, she contributes her Soul Power to the Wind, Thunder, Water and Fire Array. Yan Buhui survives the combined attack through Nirvana Fire and restrains the expedition with his Phoenix Heart-Devouring Chain 10 11.
When Yan Buhui demands all seven Skywater women in exchange for the others’ lives, Shui Yue’er initially denounces him and protests Shui Bing’er’s decision to agree. She eventually accepts the same condition herself: everyone else from the Four Elements Academy must be released. Yan Buhui then breaks the chains and frees the remaining captives 12 13.
Life on Phoenix Emperor Mountain
Yan Buhui keeps the seven women on Phoenix Emperor Mountain, orders them to obey Huo Wu, and demands that they address him as their husband. He places flame power within their bodies, initially causing severe pain, and explains that his Ultimate Fire markings allow them to survive the mountain’s otherwise lethal environment 14.
Shui Yue’er remains outspoken about his treatment of them, but becomes interested when he promises Titled Douluo cultivation and eventual godhood. His stated condition is that each woman bear him at least one child, with further children tied to his promise of godhood 16.
Her attitude begins changing after their first night together. She urges Shui Bing’er to avoid further confrontation and says that they should be content with Yan Buhui’s treatment. Her growing acceptance does not end her complaints: she later rebukes him for exhausting and hurting them, while the seven continue asking to be treated with respect rather than as outlets for his Evil Fire 19 22.
Pregnancy and Family Visit
Shui Yue’er develops dizziness and vomiting alongside the other six Skywater women. Their pregnancies are subsequently confirmed, and Yan Buhui gives each woman a Green Lotus Core Flame seed before leaving them under the protection of his Soul Beast guardians 23 24 25 26.
When Yao Zi and Mu Yunteng arrive at Phoenix Emperor Mountain, Shui Yue’er and Shui Bing’er ask about their mother. Learning that Shui Wei’er is well, though missing them, greatly relieves both sisters. They later enthusiastically accept Yan Buhui’s offer to escort them home 39 43.
The sisters help lead the Skywater troupe’s enthusiastic response as the household prepares to depart. Yan Buhui carries his ten wives to Skywater Academy on his back in his Evil Fire Phoenix form 44.
At Skywater Academy, the sisters reunite with Shui Wei’er and reassure her that Yan Buhui will not harm them. Before departing again, they ask their mother not to worry and express confidence that greater achievements await them. At this point, Yan Buhui’s promise to make them Titled Douluo or gods remains unfulfilled 45 47.
The Growing Household
When Yan Buhui announces his intention to capture the auspicious Three-Eyed Golden Lion, Shui Yue’er questions how he will find such a rarely seen beast and warns that a stronger bodyguard could force him into a fierce battle. Yan Buhui nevertheless departs, entrusting Shui Bing’er, Shui Yue’er, and the others with matters at home and reminding his pregnant wives to care for themselves 51.
She later joins the household in welcoming him back after he captures the Three-Eyed Golden Lion, now named Wang Qiu’er, and brings additional powerful Soul Beasts to the Land of Extreme Flame 59. Relations with Wang Qiu’er are initially contentious: Shui Yue’er, Shui Bing’er, and Xue Wu object when Wang Qiu’er disparages female Soul Masters as delicate 61.
Before another expedition, Shui Yue’er asks anxiously whether Yan Buhui’s plans to eliminate factions include the Four Elements Academy. He guarantees that Blazing Fire Academy, Plant Academy, and Skywater Academy will not be harmed, while withholding the same assurance from Godwind Academy and Thunder Academy. Shui Yue’er accepts his answer with relief 64.
When Yan Buhui returns with Bibi Dong, Hu Liena, Zhu Zhuyun, Zhu Zhuxue, and Xue Yingzi, Shui Yue’er comforts her unsettled older sister. She treats the expansion of an emperor’s household as unsurprising and says she does not want to make herself unhappy over it. She also continues teasing Yan Buhui, remarking that his exhaustion serves him right after his earlier treatment of them. The wives agree to his construction of additional caves on Phoenix Emperor Mountain to accommodate the growing household 98.
Childbirth
While heavily pregnant, Shui Yue’er and Shui Bing’er hurry to inform Yan Buhui that Huo Wu is going into labor. They offer to accompany him to obtain a midwife, but he refuses because of their advanced pregnancies and takes Bibi Dong to Heaven Dou City instead 100.
Shui Yue’er and Shui Bing’er subsequently go into labor themselves. Shui Yue’er gives birth to twin sons, while Shui Bing’er delivers twin daughters and Huo Wu has a boy and a girl 102.
Yan Buhui later names his thirteen children and orders thirteen days of feasting and rest throughout the Land of Extreme Flame, prohibiting hunting during the celebration 104. His subsequent advancement to the Great Sun Golden Crow upgrades his children’s bloodlines and raises thirteen of their cultivation ages to one hundred thousand years; this is an advancement of the children, not a documented increase in Shui Yue’er’s own cultivation 129.
Appearance
- Complexion: Fair, soft skin, compared alongside Shui Bing’er’s to newly blossomed water lotuses 23.
- Build and dress: Described among the seven Skywater beauties as having long legs in black stockings 13.
- Reputation: Yan Buhui considers Shui Yue’er and Shui Bing’er the most beautiful women among the Four Elements Academy group 10.
- Pregnancy: Her abdomen has begun to swell slightly by Yan Buhui’s return with Yao Zi and Mu Yunteng; she is heavily pregnant shortly before giving birth to twin sons 39 100 102.
Personality
Shui Yue’er is outspoken and protective of her older sister. She openly insults Yan Buhui despite his overwhelming strength, objects when he humiliates Shui Bing’er, and initially doubts that he will honor any agreement. Her eventual submission is explicitly motivated by saving the teachers and students threatened with death 11 13.
She is also attentive to her friends’ welfare. Soon after being detained, she holds Huo Wu’s hand and asks whether Yan Buhui has mistreated her. Her attachment to her mother remains strong throughout her captivity, and news of Shui Wei’er’s safety brings immediate relief 14 39.
Her later approval of Yan Buhui is qualified rather than unquestioning. She comes to admire his strength, loyalty, and willingness to keep promises, yet still scolds his lewd remarks and demands that he stop upsetting the pregnant women. After he apologizes, she chooses not to prolong the argument 27.
Her growing trust does not remove her concern for Skywater Academy or her habit of questioning dangerous plans. She warns Yan Buhui about the risks of capturing the Three-Eyed Golden Lion and seeks an explicit assurance that his campaigns will spare the academies connected to his wives 51 64.
She later adopts a pragmatic attitude toward his expanding household, reassuring Shui Bing’er that emperors traditionally acquire more women and declining to make herself unhappy over the matter. Her acceptance coexists with a continuing willingness to mock Yan Buhui’s excesses 98.

- Talent: The sisters are assessed as capable of eventually reaching Soul Douluo, though this is a prediction rather than an achieved rank 16.
- Later potential assessment: Yan Buhui subsequently regards all eleven of his then-current wives, including Shui Yue’er, as having the potential to become Titled Douluo and a genuine prospect of godhood. No corresponding breakthrough for her is documented in these passages 70.
