Background / History

Childhood and the Lake of Life

When Da Ming and the Titan Giant Ape were still a little snake and a little monkey, Xiao Wu and her mother protected them and gave them substantial help. He continued to regard Xiao Wu as his elder sister, considering her happiness a wish that would let him die without regrets 28.

The two brothers later found the Lake of Life, where cultivation was noticeably faster than elsewhere. Da Ming suspected that another realm existed beneath the lake, but failed to uncover its secret despite searching for much of his life. He had never met Beast God Di Tian and knew of the Three-Eyed Golden Lion only through hearsay 28.

Although called the forest emperor, his actual authority was limited, with the Titan Giant Ape his most loyal subordinate. Together, they had driven the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger and the three Qian Jun Ant Emperor brothers away from the Lake of Life’s territory 28 31.

Defeat and Submission

Da Ming sensed Yan Buhui’s fire-attribute pressure upon the phoenix’s arrival in the Star Dou Great Forest. Recognizing the danger and the enemy’s aerial advantage, he concluded that the brothers could either fight desperately or defend themselves at the lake 28.

Yan Buhui demanded their lifelong service. When the Titan Giant Ape attacked, Da Ming pushed him aside and intercepted Yan Buhui’s retaliation with Sky Azure Annihilation Thunder, suffering serious injuries. His subsequent conciliatory behavior was a calculated show of weakness; he then openly refused to become a servant 29.

The brothers combined their Slow Domain and Gravity Domain against Phoenix Meteor Shower. An Ancient Void Dragon afterimage within Yan Buhui’s Three Thousand Starry Sky Burning Flame shattered both domains and gravely injured them. Unable to resist further, they submitted to the Flame Emperor to survive 29 30.

Service in the Star Dou Great Forest

After accepting Yan Buhui’s claim over the Lake of Life and receiving Fallen Heart Flame Heart Fire, Da Ming guided him to the Qian Jun Ant Emperors’ nest. He and the Titan Giant Ape offered to storm it, but Yan Buhui handled the brothers himself 30 31 32.

Witnessing Yan Buhui restrain the three Ant Emperors with Phoenix Heart-Devouring Chain, Da Ming concluded that the Flame Emperor had held back against him and Er Ming. He believed that otherwise neither brother would have survived their earlier confrontation 32.

Da Ming then identified the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger’s territory. Yan Buhui used the two brothers as bait because of their longstanding feud with the tiger. Their attacks failed to stop his Evil God Hook, forcing Yan Buhui to protect them with Red Lotus Karmic Fire. Once the tiger submitted, Da Ming accepted Yan Buhui’s order to put aside their grudge 33 35.

North-Gate Guardian

Da Ming followed Yan Buhui to the Land of Extreme Flame, where several established guardian lords mocked the former rulers for becoming gatekeepers. Though stronger than those guardians, the brothers ranked below them in local status and seniority. Yan Buhui assigned them to the north gate, prompting Da Ming to question why such capable fighters were being used for guard duty 38 39 40.

The brothers were later caught resting at their post, but Yan Buhui passed without reprimanding them 44. During his absence, they fought the Flame Lion Dog and Flame Azure Wolf King. Unable to gain the upper hand together, they sustained injuries and only drove the invaders back with help from the four guardian lords. Da Ming reported the attack and warned that the enemies would likely return in force 49.

Yan Buhui ordered the brothers to tend to their wounds and took over the confrontation himself. He subsequently killed the two invading Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts and extracted the Flame Lion Dog’s Eternal Fire 49 50.

The border-defense force later expanded when Yan Buhui brought the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger and the three Qian Jun Ant Emperor brothers to the Land of Extreme Flame. He explicitly assigned them to join Da Ming and Er Ming in guarding against further Soul Beast invasions. The Scarlet King also joined the territory’s patrol force 58 60.

Continued Service under Yan Buhui

As Yan Buhui’s forces grew, Da Ming remained among his Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast subordinates. By Yan Buhui’s return to Phoenix Emperor Mountain after Wang Qiu’er’s pregnancy, the Flame Emperor counted eleven Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts under his command; the four original guardian lords had also attained that level 97.

Following the births of Yan Buhui’s thirteen children, the Soul Beast lords received leave for a thirteen-day celebration, during which hunting was forbidden throughout the Land of Extreme Flame. Bibi Dong was particularly shocked to learn that Da Ming and Er Ming, whom she knew as Star Dou Great Forest overlords, were serving as Yan Buhui’s gatekeepers 104.

When Yan Buhui later returned to the Lake of Life to confront Di Tian, he confirmed that the brothers now guarded the Land of Extreme Flame. He characterized their former position as guarding the Lake of Life for Di Tian and Silver Dragon King Gu Yuena, contrasting it with their current service under him 109.

Personality

Da Ming is cautious and perceptive. He quickly recognizes Yan Buhui’s superior strength, understands the tactical danger of fighting a flying enemy, and sees through his claim of visiting merely for water. He is also protective of the Titan Giant Ape, taking an attack in his place despite the risk 28 29.

His pride gives way to self-preservation after overwhelming defeat. Initially declaring that his clan would never become slaves or servants, he later submits, flatters Yan Buhui, and follows orders out of fear for his life. Nevertheless, he remains dissatisfied with the loss of his former standing and voices his frustration over gatekeeping duties 29 30 31 40.

Despite that dissatisfaction, he and Er Ming defend their assigned territory against powerful invaders and suffer injuries in the process. Da Ming gives Yan Buhui a measured account of the battle and correctly anticipates the attackers’ return; Yan Buhui regards the brothers as having worked hard and fulfilled their gatekeeping responsibilities 49.
