Geography & Environment
- Realm barrier: A boundary wall separates the Demon Domain from the Immortal Ruins. Travelers can cross it, and Lu Qing'an uses it as a meeting point when escorting visitors 6 20 40.
- Origin of the barrier: According to Wu Ciren, the merged Heavenly Dao created the Realm Wall after the first Immortal-Demon War to prevent another world-destroying conflict 311.
- Vegetation: Trees tend toward darker red hues than those in the Immortal Ruins, giving the landscape a more oppressive appearance 6.
- Demonic Qi: The local environment supports demonic physiques and cultivation arts. On returning, Lu Qing'an’s physique and arts cease being restricted and immediately absorb the surrounding energy 6.
- Dense energy regions: Heavy mist around some mountain ranges indicates concentrated Demonic Qi 245.
- Scale: Demon Descent City lies hundreds of thousands of li from the border crossing used by He Hong and Xu Yunyi 20.
- Urban life: Cities contain ordinary shopping streets, food stalls, and toy shops rather than the constant chaos Lu Zixuan initially expects 8.
- Northern frontier: The entrance to the Demon Race’s secret realm stands on a barren, dust-swept plain at the domain’s far northern edge 196.
- Changing wilderness: As scattered Divine Crystals activate, plants and animals grow rapidly stronger. Profound Heaven Emperor Realm creatures begin appearing unpredictably, making travel and exploration substantially more dangerous 397.
Cultivation System
Demonic Qi and Spiritual Qi
The two domains share cultivation ranks but use different energies and techniques 6 8.
| Aspect | Demon Domain | Immortal Ruins |
|---|---|---|
| Cultivation energy | Demonic Qi 6. | Spiritual Qi 6. |
| Local compatibility | Supports demonic arts and physiques; Immortal Ruins techniques cannot be cultivated normally here 6. | Its laws weaken Demon Domain cultivators 6. |
| Cross-domain restrictions | The two domains impose restrictions on one another’s cultivation systems 6. | Even powerful visiting Demon Domain experts suffer suppression 6 19. |
| Changing systems | Ordinarily requires an Immortal Ruins cultivator to abandon their existing cultivation and begin again 18 22 32. | Returning after conversion risks being identified and attacked as a Demon Domain cultivator 38. |
- Restrictions after conversion: Xu Yunyi experiences a cultivation-weakening seal when she crosses back into the Immortal Ruins after adopting Demon Domain cultivation 114.
- Restrictions on weaker visitors: Lu Zhengran feels his cultivation suppressed on entering the Demon Domain, though the effect is relatively limited at his level 245.
Cultivation Realms
Both domains initially recognize the same ten realms, in ascending order 8:
- Qi Condensation
- Foundation Establishment
- Golden Core
- Nascent Soul
- Spirit Transformation
- Body Integration
- Mahayana
- Tribulation Transcendence
- Saint King
- Great Emperor
Later developments establish that Great Emperor is not the ultimate limit. Resources from beyond the domain allow cultivators to advance into higher realms, including Profound Heaven Emperor, Tribulation Heaven Emperor, and Chaos Emperor 328 397.
- Changing local standards: During the Divine Crystal upheaval, some old devils reach the Profound Heaven Emperor Realm, while Lu Qing'an’s Tribulation Heaven Emperor Realm allies retain a decisive advantage over them 397.
- Plant and animal advancement: Higher cultivation is not confined to human experts; Divine Crystal empowerment also produces Profound Heaven Emperor Realm plants and animals 397.
Techniques and Risks
- Qi deviation and inner demons: Absorbing Demonic Qi can cause either if cultivation is mishandled. Lu Qing'an attributes the population’s greater combativeness partly to these risks 8.
- Unusual attack methods: Local demonic arts include attacks directed at the heart and mind, requiring newcomers to adapt their fighting methods 8.
- Cultivation resources: Demon crystals can be used for cultivation; Lu Qing'an initially keeps a supply in his hidden storage treasure, though he later reports that his stored crystals have all been burned up 7 51.
- Conversion without restarting: Lu Qing'an converts Lu Zixuan’s and Xu Yunyi’s cultivation without making them abandon their strength. His method washes the meridians with Demonic Qi and transforms the dantian, requiring him to be thousands or tens of thousands of times stronger than the recipient 18 41.
- Demonic herbs: The domain possesses demonic medicinal plants distinct from the spiritual medicines familiar to Immortal Ruins cultivators 119.
- Inherited grudges: Cultivation and personal security are closely connected to lineage conflicts. Lu Qing'an advises his daughters not to casually reveal his emperor title at the academy because descendants of experts he killed might target them 78.
Divine Crystals
Divine Crystals are high-grade cultivation resources from the Divine Continent. A captured soul explains that crystals scattered throughout the Demon Domain originally served as fuel for a Divine Crossing Flying Ship and as resources for its supervisor 220.
- Early study: Liu Xiyue discovers and studies Divine Crystals concealed inside iron balls. He learns that bringing them near Heavenfall Demon Cavern can activate them, and identifies the Blood Phoenix Sect as the source of one specimen 223.
- Natural activation: Smaller fragments can activate on their own when the appropriate time arrives. Lu Qing'an anticipates that this will transform the entire domain 320.
- Effects on resources: A demonic medicinal fruit tree that fuses with a Divine Crystal produces fruit capable of dramatically increasing its owners’ cultivation 399.
- Widespread competition: As their value becomes known, cultivators throughout the domain begin searching for the crystals 326.
- Activation mnemonic: A method for activating Divine Crystals begins circulating. Lu Qing'an suspects the Holy Spirit Organization is responsible for spreading it 397.
Society & Government
Rule of the Demon Emperor
- Eternal Night’s rule: Lu Qing'an seized the Demon Emperor position after surviving attempts to interrupt his Emperor Realm breakthrough and crushing his enemies 2.
- City appointments: After becoming emperor, he placed a defeated former rival in charge of Demon Descent City 7.
- Succession: Lu Qing'an voluntarily passed the position to his disciple. He departed only after confirming that his successor could manage it 44.
- Dugu’s rule: Li Cangxuan, known as Demon Emperor Dugu, rules during Lu Qing'an’s return. More than five hundred years after his master disappeared, he publicly claimed to have surpassed him and gathered followers 47 50 65.
- Consolidation of authority: After Lu Qing'an’s disappearance, Li Cangxuan kills challengers who question his fitness to rule, reportedly defeating each with a single sword strike. Several major factions that spread slander against him are subsequently uprooted overnight 65.
- Administrative apparatus: The Devil Palace is the domain’s strongest power and controls its vital affairs. Major powers must obey its orders, while Li Cangxuan’s administrative team meets regularly to report on events and manage government business 67.
- Project allocation: Li Cangxuan can assign major projects to leading households, as when he orders the Murong and Lu Households to manage one jointly 67.
- Proposed retirement: With Divine Crystal-related changes demanding attention, Li Cangxuan begins considering a successor so he can devote himself to cultivation 355.
- Next succession announcement: At his wedding banquet, Li Cangxuan names Lu Zhengran as the next Demon Emperor. Wang Dong of the Wang Household objects and challenges Lu Zhengran, demanding the position for himself if he wins 435.
Strength and Public Order
- Strength commands respect: Lu Qing'an describes the domain as crueler than the Immortal Ruins, with power taking precedence over social niceties and personal connections 7.
- Fighting is common, not constant: Its cities remain recognizable urban communities, though disputes and battles are more frequent than in the Immortal Ruins 8.
- Local restrictions exist: Demon Descent City forbids Great Emperor Realm experts from fighting within it. Its lord reportedly killed two Early Great Emperor cultivators after their battle destroyed buildings and displayed their heads at the gates 10.
- Scholarly traditions also exist: Demon Willow Academy promotes learning and broad education rather than relying solely on combat and killing 44.
- Official response to massacres: After receiving a report that a mysterious organization killed more than ten thousand people and extracted their souls, Li Cangxuan orders a thorough investigation and vows to destroy it 67.
- Eternal Night’s deterrent effect: News that Lu Qing'an has refined the Demon God Mother Tree prompts emergency meetings among major powers and instructions to keep a low profile. Even factions previously convinced of Dugu’s superiority fall silent 97.
- Reputation and concealment: Fear of Lu Qing'an discourages the circulation of his true appearance. Lin Qingxue’s agents initially struggle to obtain a portrait, though his face becomes more widely known after public appearances with Xue Tianfei 146 169 192.
Commerce and Intelligence
- Leading merchant organization: Xue Tianfei’s family chamber of commerce becomes the strongest in the Demon Domain. Her wealth allows her to pay one billion Supreme-Grade Demon Crystals to maximize the four girls’ Demon Willow Points at the academy 55.
- Long-established intelligence network: Wu Ciren creates an organization whose members pass their affiliation down through successive generations. She believes its accumulated membership spans the entire domain, but substantial Demon Crystal funding is needed to activate it 310.
- Operational intelligence network: At Lu Qing'an’s direction, Xue Tianfei and Wu Ciren make the organization fully operational. Reports from across the domain support the collection of Divine Crystals and the capture of powerful creatures 320 397.
Relations with the Immortal Ruins
The Demon Domain and the Immortal Ruins fought a war in the past. Although peace has lasted for many years, hostility persists on both sides 5.
- Danger to visitors: Cultivators identified as belonging to the opposing domain risk being attacked by groups of local experts, even at the Great Emperor Realm 4 19.
- Historical attack: Several hundred years before Lu Qing'an’s return, Immortal Ruins Great Emperors joined forces and nearly killed a visiting Peak Great Emperor from the Demon Domain 19.
- Concealment: Lu Qing'an hid his origins throughout his marriage to avoid renewed persecution and slaughter. He Hong and Xu Yunyi likewise plan to conceal their Immortal Ruins cultivation when visiting 1 19 20.
- Hostility in practice: During Lu Zixuan’s first battle in Demon Descent City, her opponents use her Immortal Ruins origins—and the prospect of taking her sword—to rally additional attackers 8.
- Individual exceptions: He Hong and Xu Yunyi reject the idea that belonging to the Demon Domain makes someone fundamentally different or untrustworthy. Both ultimately choose to settle there under Lu Qing'an’s protection 5 19 21 40.
- Reputation by association: He Hong faces accusations of betraying the Immortal Ruins because of his friendship with Lu Qing'an, contributing to his decision to leave 19.
- Continuing collective hostility: When Xu Xuanyu’s group attacks the Huangfu Household, Immortal Ruins Great Emperors gather to oppose them specifically as Demon Domain outsiders 364.
- Further personal migration: Xu Xuanyu later invites Li Feiyu to stay in the Demon Domain, while Xiao Qingyi welcomes Zhao Hanfeng and the others to visit with their families 374.
Wu Ciren’s historical account identifies the Immortal Ruins as the devastated remnant of the former Immortal Domain. Following a failed Immortal Domain invasion, a Demon Domain counteroffensive destroys and plunders much of the opposing territory. Severe cross-domain restrictions eventually force the Demon Domain army to withdraw; its continued superiority and the Immortal Ruins’ depleted resources subsequently reduce the incentive for further war 311.

History
Ancient Origins and the Immortal-Demon War
According to Wu Ciren, the Demon Domain and Immortal Domain originally existed as two enormous planets separated by outer void. A mysterious force caused them to collide, joining them into what became the Cangyun Continent. Contact between their populations led to the first Immortal-Demon War, in which countless people and the strongest experts of both worlds died 311.
The domains’ Heavenly Daos also fought, injured one another, and merged. Resentment and remnant souls accumulated on the battlefield, threatening the surrounding world. The merged Heavenly Dao sealed the battlefield and created the Realm Wall to restrain further conflict before withdrawing to recuperate 311.
Later, a problem with the Realm Wall nearly eliminated the restrictions on Immortal Domain invaders entering the Demon Domain. The Immortal Domain launched another invasion, but an exceptionally powerful Demon Emperor defeated its army. The Demon Domain counterattacked, devastating the Immortal Domain into the Immortal Ruins before withdrawing because of the severe restrictions on its own forces 311.
Rise and Departure of the Eternal Night Demon Emperor
Lu Qing'an fought through opposition during his Emperor Realm breakthrough, defeated his attackers, and seized the Demon Emperor position. His Blood Slaughter Battle Gear accompanied his campaigns across the domain 2 6.
After becoming the Eternal Night Demon Emperor, he spent roughly ten thousand years in seclusion pursuing a breakthrough, then remained active for nearly another ten thousand years. Eventually, he tired of slaughter and sought a settled life 27.
He entrusted the throne to his disciple, left a letter, and departed without announcing his destination. His disappearance lasted approximately a thousand years, during which rumors suggested he was secluded in pursuit of a higher realm 6 42 44.
Return and New Residents
Following his divorce from Xu Qingying, Lu Qing'an returned with Lu Zixuan and Lu Miaomiao. He recovered his hidden treasures, reestablished contact with Xiao Qingyi, and settled his daughters and Sun Minzi in the secluded residence within Demon Descent City 4 6 11 12.
He Hong subsequently moved from the Immortal Ruins to remain near the children and pursue artifact refining. Xu Yunyi also chose to stay, becoming Luo Danhong’s disciple and converting her cultivation to the local system 21 40 41.
Lu Qing'an’s return eventually reached Dugu through academy vice dean Lu Qingxu. Rather than immediately confronting his former master, Dugu continued cultivating and vowed to demonstrate that he had surpassed him 50.
Li Cangxuan later challenges Lu Qing'an directly, but his strengthened attack is met by his master’s defensive shield. The two remain on good terms, and Li Cangxuan subsequently orders his subordinates to publicize the Eternal Night Demon Emperor’s return 63 97.
After Lu Qing'an refines the Demon God Mother Tree, news of the feat spreads throughout the domain. Major powers respond with emergency meetings and renewed caution toward the former ruler. Lu Qing'an also accepts Sun Minzi as his goddaughter after avenging her father 97.
Xu Xuanyu subsequently crosses into the Demon Domain with Xu Yunyi and Luo Danhong to meet Lu Qing'an 114. Lu Zhengran later joins his father for a visit arranged by Liang Juntian and Lin Qingxue, who hope that exposure to the Demon Domain will persuade him to remain away from his mother. Lu Qing'an receives him at the barrier and allows him to observe the landscape on the journey back 192 243 245.
Lu Zhengran ultimately returns to the Immortal Ruins rather than remaining permanently, with Lu Qing'an personally escorting him back. He confronts Liang Juntian over the deception involved in arranging his trip 295.
Saber God Crisis
The Saber Alliance’s headquarters near the center of the domain is reduced to a devastated ruin during the crisis surrounding the crazed Saber God 268.
Li Cangxuan and other experts test the Saber God’s manifested Saber Domain, a phenomenon previously known chiefly through rumor. Lu Qing'an recognizes its value as a training resource, encloses and refines it, and subsequently subdues the Saber God. Reports of the event further reinforce outside observers’ uncertainty about the limits of his strength 270 271 272 277.
Divine Crystal Upheaval
After learning the origin and activation conditions of Divine Crystals, Lu Qing'an anticipates a domain-wide transformation. He instructs his allies and ten dragons to strengthen themselves and prepares to collect the scattered crystals using a comprehensive intelligence network 220 320.
The changes begin interfering with ordinary governance, prompting Li Cangxuan to consider retiring from the Demon Emperor position 355.
By the time Xue Tianfei and Wu Ciren’s intelligence organization becomes fully operational, small Divine Crystals are appearing throughout the domain. Empowered experts, plants, and animals rapidly alter the balance of strength and make the wilderness increasingly dangerous. Lu Qing'an dispatches Xiao Qingyi, Xu Xuanyu, and other allies to gather crystals and capture powerful creatures 397.
The circulation of a Divine Crystal activation mnemonic accelerates concern over the upheaval. Lu Qing'an suspects the Holy Spirit Organization is deliberately spreading the method 397.
Announced Succession to Lu Zhengran
At his wedding banquet, Li Cangxuan declares that he intends to devote himself entirely to cultivation and cease handling the Demon Domain’s affairs. He publicly selects Lu Zhengran as his successor and reassures him that Lu Qing'an will remain his strongest support 435.
Wang Dong of the Wang Household objects and challenges Lu Zhengran, proposing that victory should make him Demon Emperor instead. Lu Zhengran accepts, and their confrontation begins with Wang Dong revealing his Yin Clarity Emperor Position and Lu Zhengran summoning the Heavenly Grief Emperor Position 435.
