Family and the Divorce

Xu Yunyi was raised alongside her younger brother, Xu Xuanyu, by their elder sister, Xu Qingying. She regarded Qingying as a mother figure and placed great importance on maintaining close family ties 23 24.

Unlike Xu Xuanyu, she treated Lu Qing'an warmly throughout his marriage to Qingying. At Qingying’s breakthrough gathering, she reprimanded Xu Xuanyu for speaking disrespectfully to him and helped care for Lu Zixuan and Lu Miaomiao 2.

After the divorce exposed Lu Qing'an’s strength and Demon Domain origins, Yunyi understood why he had concealed them. She believed his restraint had protected his family and regretted that her sister had failed to cherish him. She also rejected the idea that a different cultivation system inherently made Demon Domain cultivators different from people in the Immortal Ruins 5.

Her parents are Xu Man and Qiao Yuqin. Their prolonged absence is later explained as the result of fleeing Xu Yi’s bloodline search and becoming trapped in another star domain for more than a thousand years. They had left a protective array and jade pendant for their children, but Yunyi accidentally ate the pendant as a child 546 547.

Visiting the Demon Domain

Yunyi accompanied He Hong to visit Lu Qing'an and his daughters. Before leaving, she supplied recording formations through which Qingying could send messages to the girls. Lu Qing'an met the visitors at the realm barrier and transported them hundreds of thousands of li to Demon Descent City in less than two breaths 19 20.

Her nieces welcomed her enthusiastically. Learning that Lu Qing'an had advanced Zixuan by an entire major realm, converted her cultivation, and equipped both girls with extraordinary treasures steadily changed Yunyi’s understanding of his power 21 22.

She helped connect the children with their mother through a transmission and delivered Qingying’s recorded messages without forcing them to watch. Later, she privately apologized to Lu Qing'an for Qingying, Xu Xuanyu, and Lu Zhengran. He reminded her that their actions were not her fault 23 24.

Awakening the Innate Array Physique

Lu Qing'an brought Yunyi, his daughters, and Sun Minzi into the Heavenfall Demon Cavern for body tempering. Within his protective shield, Yunyi expelled impurities and gained new insights while practicing formations 25 26.

Her newly awakened Innate Array Physique attracted Luo Danhong, a Peak Great Emperor Realm array master seeking a successor. Luo offered her inheritance on the condition that Yunyi abandon her Immortal Ruins cultivation and restart with Demon Domain techniques. Yunyi deferred her answer until Lu Qing'an returned 29 30.

Lu Qing'an explained that restarting was unnecessary because he could convert her cultivation. Yunyi began considering a permanent stay: she could pursue the Array Dao under Luo Danhong while remaining close to her nieces 32 35 36.

Confinement Attempt and Escape

Qingying and Xu Xuanyu suspected that Yunyi’s decision resulted from deception. To demonstrate that she was acting freely, Yunyi returned to the Immortal Ruins to say goodbye. There, she faced questioning from her family, Lin Qingxue, array master Zhang Huairen, and a soul specialist called Fellow Daoist Jia 36 37 38.

Yunyi demonstrated her physique but rejected Zhang Huairen as a substitute teacher after comparing his strongest array with Luo Danhong’s work. Jia’s examination found her divine soul normal; Lin Qingxue nevertheless instructed him to falsely report that a secret art had affected it 38.

When Qingying tried to keep her in the Immortal Ruins, Yunyi openly condemned Lin Qingxue’s interference. Unable to overcome her sister’s cultivation, she held her sword to her own neck, forcing everyone to keep their distance while she prepared a teleportation array. She escaped and asked Lu Qing'an to meet her at the realm barrier 39.

Settlement and Apprenticeship

After reaching Lu Qing'an, Yunyi reaffirmed her decision to remain in the Demon Domain. Back at his courtyard, she formally became Luo Danhong’s disciple and resolved to become the strongest array master 40.

Lu Qing'an successfully converted her cultivation and reassured her that she still belonged with his family as Zixuan and Miaomiao’s aunt. She subsequently told Xu Xuanyu that Lu Qing'an was the Eternal Night Demon Emperor, first making him swear not to reveal it to Qingying because she feared the truth could disturb her sister’s Dao heart 41 42.

She agreed to speak favorably of her remorseful younger brother to Lu Qing'an, while warning him to beware of Lin Qingxue and protect Zhengran. Later, Lu Qing'an asked Yunyi and Luo Danhong to establish a teleportation array between the household and Demon Willow Academy for the children 43 45.

The academy route is subsequently operational: Yunyi uses the teleportation array to travel between the academy and courtyard. With Lu Qing'an’s arrangements, she gains access to the academy’s time treasure, where she advances one minor realm and resolves an array problem that had previously eluded her 57 60 80.

Protecting and Retrieving Xu Xuanyu

Yunyi had already apologized to Lu Qing'an on Xu Xuanyu’s behalf when a transmission with her brother revealed signs of distress. Although he tried to conceal what had happened, his tears after Miaomiao called him “Uncle” made Yunyi suspicious. She contacted Qingying and demanded a full account of his injuries and crippling 70 71.

After hearing Qingying’s explanation, Yunyi angrily accused her of sacrificing her husband, children, and siblings for her ambitions. She declared that she would retrieve Xu Xuanyu and ordered him to recover and wait for her. Her anger frightened Miaomiao, prompting Lu Qing'an to speak with her and advise letting Xu Xuanyu recover before traveling 71 72.

When Xu Xuanyu reported that Huangfu Qi and his father had themselves been mysteriously crippled, Yunyi immediately attributed it to Lu Qing'an. She understood his apparent reluctance to intervene as a sharp-tongued but soft-hearted manner and felt deeply grateful that he had relieved her brother’s despair 74 75.

Before Xu Xuanyu’s arrival, Yunyi asked Zixuan to welcome him kindly and informed Lu Qing'an of his travel plans. She and Luo Danhong eventually found him near Ling City at the realm barrier. Crossing into the Immortal Ruins placed a restrictive seal over Yunyi’s dantian, illustrating the consequences of her cultivation conversion. She thanked his escort, Li Feiyu, with a leaf from the Demon God Mother Tree, introduced her brother to Luo Danhong, and brought him back to the courtyard 102 113 114.

Yunyi was moved by her brother’s welcome but embarrassed by his tearful, excessive pleas for Lu Qing'an’s forgiveness, eventually lifting him away from Lu Qing'an’s leg. She rejoiced when Lu Qing'an allowed him to remain in the household and urged him to perform his assigned housework conscientiously 115 118.

When Miaomiao later sensed that Xu Xuanyu was hiding unhappiness, Yunyi questioned him and learned that Huangfu Qi had recovered first. She encouraged her brother to regain his cultivation and take revenge himself. During the eventual treatment, she anxiously watched his dangerous rebirth and embraced him in tears when his meridians and dantian were restored 120 121 207 208.

Emperor Breakthrough and Rapid Advancement

Sensing an imminent breakthrough, Yunyi entered seclusion in the time treasure beside the Time-Reversing Demon Willow. Luo Danhong assisted her over the following days, and she returned as a Great Emperor Realm cultivator possessing the rare Heavenly Regret Emperor Position 149 189.

Lu Qing'an and Xiao Qingyi recognized that the Emperor Position perfectly suited her habit of feeling guilty and apologizing on others’ behalf. Even her apology for keeping the gathering waiting increased her cultivation. Lu Qing'an then supplied a Dao-Devouring Mystic Lotus with his own cultivation and gave it to her, allowing her to advance through the middle stage and reach the Late Great Emperor Realm in a single refinement 189 190.

Although estranged from Qingying, Yunyi wanted to share news of her achievement with the sister who had raised her. Their attempt to make contact instead brought them into another confrontation with Lin Qingxue, who demanded that the siblings stop disturbing Qingying’s cultivation. Yunyi revealed her new realm and vowed to kill Lin Qingxue after reaching the peak and completing her Heavenly Regret Emperor Position 191 192.

Lu Qing'an later arranged a cultivation exercise in which Yunyi frightened a captive man-eating flower by channeling Demonic Qi into its enclosing formation. Her guilt helped her improve, while the flower’s fear nourished Miaomiao. Yunyi subsequently entered seclusion again and returned at the Peak Great Emperor Realm, whereupon Lu Qing'an gave her a Divine Crystal to refine. Zhengran realized that his aunt had become stronger than his mother 231 236 266.

She continued refining Divine Crystals and training in the Saber Domain. When the flower became resigned to her repeated treatment, Lu Qing'an asked Xiao Qingyi to erase its recent memories so that the exercise could continue. He also supplied Yunyi with a goose egg-sized piece of water-attribute Divine Crystal 303 304.

Return to the Immortal Ruins and Confrontation with Lin Qingxue

Yunyi and Xu Xuanyu planned to return to the Immortal Ruins once sufficiently strong, prioritizing Lin Qingxue because Yunyi feared that she would harm Qingying. Zhengran later contacted Yunyi with similar suspicions and agreed to monitor Lin Qingxue’s movements. Yunyi judged that she could kill Lin Qingxue even under the Realm Wall’s restrictions 236 327.

After further cultivation aimed at the Tribulation Heaven Emperor Realm, Yunyi and Xu Xuanyu returned earlier than planned when Li Feiyu stopped answering transmissions. Yunyi reached Nangong Yun, but the latter abruptly ended the conversation and became unreachable as well 353 361 362.

Using a strand of Lin Qingxue’s hair supplied by Zhengran, Yunyi located her near the Xu Household and destroyed her prepared defenses. Lin Qingxue claimed that killing her would also cause Qingying’s death. When Qingying arrived and pleaded for mercy, Yunyi instead crippled Lin Qingxue’s limbs and destroyed her dantian and meridians. She spared her life for Qingying’s sake, warned her sister to avoid her, and ostensibly departed with Xu Xuanyu and Zhengran 371.

Yunyi secretly separated from the others and followed Qingying to investigate the threat behind Lin Qingxue’s claim. At a cave abode, she discovered a golden-pupil entity communicating through a light gate. Recognizing the gate as a formation and sensing danger, she prepared defensive arrays, armor, and a transmission jade slip before demanding answers 372.

The entity identified Yunyi as a Tribulation Heaven Emperor suppressed to Peak Profound Heaven Emperor Realm by the Realm Wall. When she attacked the gate and restrained Qingying to prevent interference, it released the Flame of the Golden Palace, a metal-attribute Divergent Flame at the Middle Tribulation Heaven Emperor Realm. Her arrays and Red Fire Divine Metal armor prevented an immediately fatal injury, but the entity’s golden barrier blocked her attempt to contact Lu Qing'an, leaving her unable to contend with the flame head-on 372.

Qingying’s Apology and Family Reunion

Yunyi survived the confrontation and later agreed with Xu Xuanyu that they had done what they could for Qingying and should concentrate on cultivation. Qingying then contacted them to apologize, revealing that she had survived an attempted body seizure and killed Lin Qingxue. She also disclosed that their parents had gone beyond the domain and that she intended to devote herself to finding them 393.

Before Qingying sealed away her feelings for them, Yunyi and Xu Xuanyu returned to spend time together at their childhood home. The visit relieved Yunyi’s longstanding distress, and the siblings returned to tell Lu Qing'an what they had learned 395.

At Li Cangxuan’s wedding, Yunyi helped receive guests, record gifts, and arrange seating, including seating Qingying with Zhao Hanfeng’s group. During the festivities, she and Xu Xuanyu sensed an unfamiliar bloodline search and alerted Lu Qing'an, who severed the connection to them 434 445.

Yunyi distrusted Xu Yi and told Lu Qing'an that neither she nor her brother wished to return to an unfamiliar Xu Household. He promised that no one could force them while he was present. When Xu Yi and his father’s clone later approached, the siblings visited Qingying, warned her, and returned to report their imminent arrival 450 535 536.

Following Qiao Yuqin’s return, Yunyi asked her mother to explain the family’s grievances with the Xu Household, partly so that she could relay the information to Lu Qing'an. She learned why her parents had disappeared and told Qiao Yuqin that Lu Qing'an had helped awaken her Innate Array Physique 545 546 547.

Yunyi and Xu Xuanyu delayed taking their mother to meet Lu Qing'an’s children until they could establish his wishes. Although she remained attached to Qingying, Yunyi no longer fully trusted her sister not to abandon her family again. She later accompanied Xu Xuanyu to reunite with their father, Xu Man 548 552 574.

Advanced Array Research and Later Activities

Huang Hao recognized Yunyi when the Dao of Alchemy Master brought him to the courtyard. He remembered that she had previously saved him from an ominous living being and judged her formation attainments no weaker than his own. Yunyi addressed him as her martial uncle, and Luo Danhong’s arrival established their connection through her master 403 405.

Yunyi and the other array specialists subsequently studied the Pill Cloud Continent’s formations. Although their initial mastery of its established arrays was slightly inferior to that continent’s leading specialists, they excelled in innovation and distinctive interpretations. They eventually studied every array on the Pill Cloud Continent and continued examining newly acquired formation resources 514 534.

During the Fallen God Sea expedition, Yunyi joined Huang Hao and the other array masters in heading for the array chamber while the rest of the party divided up to seek other treasures 673.

At Lu Qing'an’s later wedding, Yunyi took part in blocking the wedding doors. The Dao of Alchemy Master confessed to her to persuade her to move aside, and she did so; the supplied account does not establish a subsequent romantic relationship 755.

Her loyalty does not prevent independent judgment. She defends Lu Qing'an against her siblings’ prejudices and chooses Luo Danhong’s instruction despite pressure to remain in the Immortal Ruins. When others attempt to take control of her future, her usual gentleness gives way to fierce resistance 36 38 39.

She is ambitious about the Array Dao. The opportunity to study under Luo Danhong helps motivate her relocation, while Lin Qingxue’s manipulation strengthens her determination to become powerful enough to control her own fate 36 40.

Her protectiveness becomes particularly forceful after Xu Xuanyu is crippled. She trusts his account, confronts Qingying for failing him, and takes responsibility for bringing him to safety.
