Does Montelli Want to Go to War with Huanglong?
In the shadows, Christopher watched as Kexi's mecha transformed into a streak of red light and disappeared into the horizon, and the smile on his face finally vanished.
He remained silent for a long time before closing the script booklet in his hand.
The Scar emerged from the shadows, tearing off the ill-fitting maid outfit and tossing it aside.
He muttered and cursed as he pulled at the script, "Another failure, Christopher. Can't you at least make your script decent? Does it deserve all my effort?"
"It's not a script problem." Christopher shook his head, his tone less composed than usual. "This young master Montelli harbors more secrets than we anticipated, and that mech isn't mentioned in any known intelligence."
"So what do we do now?"
"We can't do anything to him for the time being." Christopher put away the script and looked at Carlotta and the others in the distance. "Let the Order deal with him; they won't let such a good opportunity pass them by."
He turned and walked in another direction.
"Our primary target is still the Rover. We should also go see Phrolova; I just got her out."
The Scar paused for a moment, then asked, "When did you do this?"
"Take advantage of the chaos during the explosion."
Christopher's voice drifted over, but he was already far away.
The Scar cursed something behind him and followed, the two disappearing into the shadows.
The Female Rover stood in front of the hall, gazing at Carlotta and the others.
She was still confused about the situation and was quite surprised by what she heard about Montelli today.
Abby floated beside her shoulder and sniffed hard in their direction.
"The Rover," Abby scratched his head, his voice slightly confused, "I just smelled a really strong odor."
What does it taste like?
"It's similar to that big guy in Jinzhou, but not quite the same."
Abby sniffed again. "He gives me a much more dangerous feeling than that guy."
The Rover followed his gaze and saw that Carlotta was negotiating with Changli and the others.
Without thinking twice, she lifted her foot and walked over there.
A large number of guests had already gathered at the scene; they were all there to watch the drama unfold.
They looked at Jinhsi, who had fainted, and began to whisper among themselves.
"My God, Montelli too audacious! He actually dared to assassinate the magistrate of Jinzhou?"
"Young Master Montelli attempted to assassinate the Prefect of Jinzhou? Is it true?"
"What was that explosion just now? I thought it was a fireworks display! Could it be...?"
"Didn't you see? The Magistrate Jin was stabbed in the back, and blood is everywhere."
"My God! What is Montelli doing?! Has he gone mad?!!!!"
"Wasn't it said that their young master was only suited to be a pervert who could write love letters? How dare he!!"
"This is going to be interesting. With Montelli and Huanglong turning against each other, the trade routes to Ragunna are likely to be cut off."
A middle-aged man dressed in fine clothes sighed in the crowd, "If Montelli is punished by Huanglong, those of us who do business with Montelli will also suffer."
"You can't say that. The assassination attempt on the Magistrate Jin is no small matter. What if it's a misunderstanding?"
"What misunderstanding? Didn't you hear what Changli said? There are witnesses and physical evidence; Changli saw it with his own eyes. Who is Lord Changli? Would she wrong him?"
"I heard his relationship with the Magistrate Jin is unusual. Someone even saw the Magistrate Jin go to Montelli to see him before. Could this mess happen today because of love turned to hate?"
"Who knows? Things are very messy in wealthy families."
Carlotta listened to Changli, Sanhua, and Baizhi's descriptions, one after the other.
Her face went from ashen to pale, and then from pale to a numb calm.
Her first reaction after hearing this was disbelief.
"Impossible!" she emphasized each word. "Kexi couldn't possibly have killed the Magistrate Jin."
"I saw it with my own eyes," Changli said coldly.
"They had no grudges against each other, no conflict of interest, so why would he kill Jinhsi?"
Carlotta took a step forward, staring into Changli's eyes. "Changli, you hold a high position and should know better than anyone that these things are all about motives. Kexi may be unreliable, but he's not crazy; why would he do something so stupid?"
Changli remained silent, her heart also wavering.
But the fact is that Kexi killed Jinhsi; she witnessed it herself.
Unless he can provide evidence to prove that what he said is true.
Sanhua held Jinhsi, who was still unconscious, her face pale, and she bit her lip without saying a word.
Carlotta took a deep breath, preparing to press for more questions, when a sharp voice suddenly rang out from outside the crowd.
"Carlotta!"
Alex pushed through the crowd and strode over.
He glanced at the scene, saw the unconscious Jinhsi and the blood all over the ground, and a perfectly timed look of shock appeared on his face.
"What... what happened? Has the magistrate of Jinzhou been assassinated?"
He turned to stare at Carlotta, his voice rising several octaves, "Carlotta, you Montelli have some nerve!"
Carlotta frowned. "Priest Alex, the matter is still under investigation—"
"Investigate? Investigate what? The person is lying in a pool of blood, what's there to investigate!"
Alex's voice was shrill and drawn out, making sure everyone around could hear, "Assassinating the Prefect of Jinzhou, what a heinous act! Does the Montelli want to make an enemy of the entire Huanglong?!"
"Or are you perhaps trying to provoke a war between Huanglong and Rinascita?"
Alex simply slapped a big hat on him.
Carlotta was pale, her fingers clenched tightly.
She knew that Alex didn't care about Jinhsi's life or death; what he wanted was to use this as an excuse to suppress the Montelli.
"This happened in Montelli, and the perpetrator is your young master from Montelli. Is there any need for an investigation?"
Alex stepped forward, his gaze sweeping over all the guests. "As you all have seen, the Prefect of Jinzhou was assassinated in Montelli, and the murderer is Kexi Montelli. Montelli must give Huanglong an explanation for this!"
"Priest Alex." A voice sounded from the side.
Phoebe had somehow squeezed to the front. Her voice wasn't loud, but it was clear. "The matter hasn't been investigated thoroughly yet, we can't jump to conclusions. Young Master Kexi— "
"Phoebe!" Alex whirled around, interrupting her sharply. "You have no right to speak here. As a priest of the Order, how can you speak up for Montelli's murderer? Get out."
Phoebe blushed, her lips moved as if she wanted to say something, but she was scared away by his look.
Carlotta saw all of this.
She took a deep breath, suppressing her anger, and tried to keep her voice steady. "Alex, there's only one thing I can say right now. I will find Kexi, find out the truth, and give Huanglong an explanation. Until then, Montelli will not accept any unfounded accusations."
"Unfounded accusations?" Alex sneered. "The evidence is overwhelming, and you still call it unfounded? Carlotta, I think you're trying to protect your brother!"
Carlotta's brow twitched.
She stared at Alex, forcing out each word with difficulty. "I said I would give you an explanation."
The air between the two was like a fully drawn bowstring.
Everyone around held their breath; no one dared to interrupt.
"Fine." Alex finally backed down, but his sneer remained. "I'll give you three days. If you can't hand over Kexi within three days, don't blame the Order impolite."
"What does the state of Jinzhou think?" Alex looked at Changli, symbolically seeking her opinion.
He was overjoyed; he had been looking for an opportunity to suppress Montelli.
Their promotion of private terminals seriously threatens the public Echo status of the Order.
Moreover, Fisalia even showed signs of wanting to put aside his past grievances with Montelli, which he couldn't ignore; this was a golden opportunity.
Carlotta, you really have a great younger brother, hahaha.
After pondering for a moment, Changli Li nodded and agreed to the plan.
"Sanhua." She looked at Sanhua, who was still holding Jinhsi and lost in self-blame, and called her name.
Hearing the call, Sanhua raised her lifeless eyes and replied, "Lord Changli."
"Let's take Jinhsi back first."
"Yes."
Changli watched as Sanhua and Baizhi placed Jinhsi turned to Carlotta and said, "Miss Carlotta, I hope you can find Kexi as soon as possible."
Before she could respond, she had already started walking and caught up with Sanhua and the others.
Carlotta watched them leave, feeling annoyed.
