Background / History

Childhood and Appointment

Jinhsi was raised to become Jinzhou's magistrate. Bright and gifted but frail and frequently ill, she grew up under Changli's care. Changli taught her reading, writing, spells, and strategy, guiding her from a timid child into the city's leader. By the time Jinhsi received the invitation to Montelli Manor, she had held office for three years 11.

Her preparation required early-morning lessons, extensive study of state affairs, and demanding etiquette practice. Jinhsi felt that others credited her achievements to being the Sentinel's chosen Resonator rather than recognizing her effort. Kexi's anonymous letters, which began arriving when she was five, became a source of encouragement because they addressed her as an individual rather than a future officeholder 11 87.

She repeatedly read and memorized the letters, sometimes keeping them beneath her pillow. When she became magistrate, their writer was the first person she wanted to tell 87.

Invitation to Montelli Manor

After twelve years of correspondence and a three-month silence, Jinhsi received an invitation bearing the Montelli Family's seal. Eager to discover the sender's identity, she postponed official business to attend. She openly described him to Sanhua as the man she loved, unaware that Sanhua had received an identical invitation 9.

Finding a matching letter in Changli's possession brought Jinhsi's jealousy to the surface. She insisted on traveling to Rinascita and, for the first time, defied her teacher, shouting that Changli was not allowed to go. Despite her hurt, she resolved to find the writer and learn how many other people he had contacted 10 11.

Mystic Sect Counterpart

Christopher's scripted Sonoro world contained a fictional counterpart of Jinhsi, distinct from the real magistrate. This version was Kexi's junior sect sister, wore twin ponytails, and spoke with a pronounced Zhuang accent. She searched the back mountain for him daily during his absence and eagerly welcomed him home 28 31.

The counterpart helped summon the sect's defenders when Kexi returned carrying the wounded Aemeath, pursued by Danika. When Christopher abandoned the Sonoro and it began collapsing, Kexi told her that she was a character Christopher had created. She accepted the truth, smiled at him, and disappeared with the world 59 62.

Her disappearance remained a painful memory for Kexi and helped drive his determination to become stronger 64.

Arrival in Ragunna and Meeting Kexi

Jinhsi traveled to Ragunna primarily to meet her correspondent, while also arranging cooperation talks with local families and the Order. Her delegation included Sanhua, Yangyang, and Baizhi. At the harbor, she gave Yangyang leave to spend time with Suisui and asked her to visit Rover 70 71.

When Jinhsi visited Kexi, he initially embraced her because she resembled his lost junior sister. Jinhsi stated that this should be their first meeting, then asked whether the words in his letters were true. She explained how deeply the correspondence had sustained her before questioning him about Changli and his other recipients 86 87.

Kexi admitted writing to multiple women but maintained that his feelings were sincere. He embraced Jinhsi from behind and kissed the Tacet Mark between her shoulder blades, acquiring Resonance Synchronization with her and advancing his mission to 6/12 88.

Jinhsi soon recognized that his confession amounted to loving her without giving up anyone else. When Kexi falsely claimed that Changli did not mind, she refused to accept it without asking her teacher directly 89.

Sanhua's Suicide Attempt

Jinhsi rushed to Sanhua's room after learning it was locked and burning. She destroyed the door with a dragon-shaped Resonance attack and found Sanhua severely injured beside partially burned letters. Recognizing Kexi's handwriting, she realized that Sanhua had also been his correspondent. Baizhi's treatment helped save Sanhua 102.

Blaming Kexi, Jinhsi attacked him with Ages of Harvest and repeatedly immobilized Selina when she intervened. After telling him about Sanhua's suicide attempt, Jinhsi later waited outside Sanhua's hospital room in tears and demanded that he settle the situation by the following day 115 118.

Birthday Banquet Confrontation

At Kexi's birthday gathering, Jinhsi confronted Changli about his claim that she accepted his other relationships. Changli denied ever saying so, exposing Kexi's lie 132 133.

The dispute escalated into competing marriage proposals. After Changli offered the Montelli Family access to Huanglong's court, Jinhsi countered with a proposed comprehensive trade agreement on Jinzhou's behalf 135 136:

  • Full access to Jinzhou's ports.
  • Tariffs reduced to ten percent for fifty years.
  • Invitations for Montelli to bid on Jinzhou's projects.
  • Entrustment of major projects to the family.
  • Immediate signing, guaranteed by her reputation as magistrate.

Jinhsi refused to yield to Changli. As the women began comparing their intimacy with Kexi, she acknowledged his embrace and kiss on her back, then revealed that Sanhua and Kexi had slept together. Sanhua confirmed her account despite the other women's disbelief 136 137 138.

Assassination Attempt and Recovery

During the banquet's explosions and confusion, Jinhsi pursued Kexi. Christopher trapped the real Kexi in a scripted space and sent an impostor to meet her. The double lowered her guard with an embrace, stabbed her in the back, and left her collapsed beside Ages of Harvest 140.

Jinhsi recognized that her attacker was not Kexi, but could not finish speaking. Changli arrived to find the impostor tormenting her and mistook him for the real man. Jinhsi lost consciousness from blood loss; Baizhi subsequently treated the wound, which had pierced her lung 140 141 142.

The attack became a political crisis for Montelli. The Order demanded Kexi's surrender, while accusations against him threatened Carlotta's leadership. News that Jinhsi had awakened allowed Carlotta to seek a postponement of the vote against her so that Jinhsi could testify 143 152.

Still weak, Jinhsi recovered under Sanhua's constant guard, with Changli staying next door. Kexi eventually reached her through Selina's portal and Baizhi's assistance. Jinhsi confirmed that she had known the attacker was an impostor from the moment he struck—but refused to have Kexi's wanted posters removed, explaining that she wanted him 158 167.

Personality

Jinhsi normally presents herself with the courtesy and composure expected of a magistrate. She thanks accompanying officials, maintains a gracious public manner, and considers her attendants' personal needs: in Ragunna, she insists that Yangyang should not miss a rare family reunion because of official duties 70 71.

Beneath that composure, she is sensitive to having her individual effort overlooked. The letters matter to her because they recognize the work, fear, and perseverance hidden behind her status as the Sentinel's Resonator 87.

Her attachment to Kexi makes her jealous, stubborn, and openly competitive, even toward the teacher she had previously never defied. However, she is not wholly persuaded by romantic reassurance: after his confession, she identifies its evasions and insists on checking his claim about Changli herself 11 89.

Her concern for Sanhua provokes both immediate action and intense anger. Later, her refusal to clear Kexi despite knowing his innocence shows a possessive willingness to keep pressure on him 102 115 167.

Abilities & Skills

Time Manipulation

Jinhsi can immobilize a target using golden Resonance energy 115.

  • Freezes Selina in place with a snap of her fingers, leaving even her eyelashes motionless.
  • Reapplies the effect after Kexi uses his copied version of her power to release Selina.
  • Recognizes the power Kexi uses as her own and is shocked that he possesses it 115.
  • When borrowed by Kexi, the ability can stop multiple people and airborne dust simultaneously; the passages do not establish this as a separate advancement for Jinhsi 142.

Dragon-Shaped Resonance

Jinhsi can shape substantial Resonance energy into a dragon 102.

  • Destroys Sanhua's locked door with a massive dragon-shaped attack 102.
  • Her borrowed power allows Kexi to use Heavenly Abode's Courtyard Light, manifesting a dragon silhouette that fires a searing white beam. The attack shatters Christopher's barrier, although Christopher avoids injury 141.

Weapon Combat

Jinhsi fights with Ages of Harvest, combining repeated blade strikes with Resonance techniques 115.

  • Forces Kexi into repeated evasive movements and clashes directly with Selina's flute sword.
  • Cuts through tables and chairs while pursuing Kexi.
  • Coordinates with Changli to block Kexi's escape at the banquet 115 140.

Administration and Diplomacy

Jinhsi's training encompasses etiquette, state affairs, strategy, and official document work 11 87.

  • Recognizes the Montelli wax seal by its pattern, color, and texture after reviewing thousands of documents 11.
  • Represents Jinzhou in cooperation talks with Ragunna's families and the Order 70.
  • Offers concrete trade concessions during the banquet dispute, though the passages do not show the proposed agreement being signed 136.
