Personality
Yuanfeng is proud and protective of her clan, but capable of restraining its anger. Although accusations against the Dragon Clan initially enrage her, she accepts calls for investigation and later stops her warriors from launching an impulsive attack that could serve an enemy’s scheme 5 6 15.
Her hospitality can conceal political calculation. After entertaining Chu Feng and giving him a spiritual treasure, she privately admits that she does not yet believe his claims. She nevertheless recognizes his potential, seeks a favorable connection, and orders her elders to verify his warning 10 11.
With Chu Feng, she becomes affectionate, teasing, and occasionally jealous. She complains when he makes protective talismans for their daughters before making one for her, yet readily supports extending the same protection to Ancestral Dragon and First Qilin 70 130.
As a mother, she values independence and discipline. She sends Kunpeng and Kong Xuan out to find their own fortunes and insists that her daughters show gratitude for Chu Feng’s gifts. Her severity softens when Kunpeng submits to punishment, prompting her to plead for leniency 71 129 150 151.
History
Dragon-Phoenix Calamity
Yuanfeng leads the Phoenix Clan from the Volcano of Immortality during its conflict with the Dragon Clan. Investigating the deaths of Phoenix cultivators, she confronts Ancestral Dragon, only to learn that the dragons accuse her clan of similar killings. Their encounter escalates into battle, while Luohu’s agents continue spreading rumors and provoking both sides 5 6 7 9.
Chu Feng brings evidence identifying Luohu as the instigator. Yuanfeng publicly thanks him and welcomes him as a guest, while privately arranging to investigate his claims. She later restrains calls for immediate retaliation against the dragons and agrees to a temporary truce after Ao Ling helps expose the plot 10 11 15.
When Chu Feng explains the calamity’s intended outcome, Yuanfeng chooses to trust him rather than gamble with her clansmen’s lives. She persuades Ancestral Dragon and First Qilin to cooperate in staging the conflict and making carefully worded Heavenly Dao oaths. Yuanfeng vows to suppress the Volcano of Immortality and harmonize Heaven and Earth, taking phoenix form to subdue its Earth Fire. The clans survive with their foundations preserved, though the Heavenly Dao punishes their evasion by reducing their cultivation 19 20.
Children and Marriage
The Heavenly Dao causes Yuanfeng to conceive Kunpeng and Kong Xuan without her knowingly using a conception technique. They are born as two spiritual eggs, fulfilling a destined event that eases the Phoenix Clan’s suppression. Yuanfeng then permits her clansmen to leave their territory but orders them to avoid the coming calamity 24 35.
Chu Feng later proposes marriage and offers ten Hunyuan Golden Immortal Dao Fruits as a betrothal gift. Yuanfeng consumes one, restores her former peak cultivation, and accepts. She subsequently helps him seek First Qilin as another Dao Companion, supporting the union of the three clans under Chu Feng despite her continuing rivalry with Ancestral Dragon 47 48 49.
Yuanfeng later conceives a child through dual cultivation with Chu Feng. He remains beside her until she gives birth to their Golden-Winged Great Peng daughter 85.
Protecting the Phoenix Clan
When Di Jun’s army attacks the Volcano of Immortality, Yuanfeng reveals her restored power and gravely injures Ji Meng and Ying Zhao. Rather than destroy the invading leadership, she forces Di Jun to surrender three Top-grade Houtian Spiritual Treasures and withdraw 62 63.
Following Chu Feng’s advice, she sends selected karma-burdened clansmen into the Demon Court while keeping the Phoenix Clan’s core elites outside the Witch-Demon Calamity. Sharing the burden with the Demon Clan improves cultivation conditions for the phoenixes, while worsening the demons’ own karmic difficulties 71 73.
She also takes responsibility for Liu’er’s cultivation when Chu Feng is summoned away. Later, she reports that the disciple has reached the late Daluo Golden Immortal stage 74 116.
Achieving the Dao and Later Events
Yuanfeng achieves the Dao alongside Ancestral Dragon and First Qilin through Chu Feng’s Dao Fruits. He also supplies treasures and resources to strengthen their clans 117.
As the Witch-Demon Calamity approaches its climax, she learns that Kunpeng incited the Golden Crows, contributing to the deaths of nine of them. Yuanfeng summons and reprimands her daughter, but asks Chu Feng to spare her after she admits fault. Chu Feng instead confines Kunpeng to cultivation at the Volcano of Immortality 150 151.
Luohu’s return brings a new household conflict. Yuanfeng challenges her claim to seniority by pointing out that she has borne Chu Feng’s child, but Luohu suppresses her with her aura and threatens to refine her. Yuanfeng yields, remaining resentful but afraid to challenge Luohu again 167 171.
Before the next calamity, Yuanfeng accepts further resources and agrees to keep her clan’s core elites uninvolved. At the Three Sects’ competition, she rewards the top ten disciples with personally refined phoenix feathers. She later accompanies Chu Feng and Luohu to the Demon Realm, then asks Chu Feng to take her and the other clan leaders back to the Primordial World 193 217 231.

Notable Quotes
“No one knows whether peaceful coexistence is possible. What we need to do now is prevent others from plotting against us and making us fight until both sides are ruined.” 16
“Children of the Phoenix Clan do not need to grow up under their mother's wings. The Primordial World is vast; whether they become dragons or worms depends entirely on their own fortune.” 71
Notes
- Kunpeng and Kong Xuan’s parentage: Their conception is explicitly attributed to the Heavenly Dao. Yuanfeng later tells Kunpeng that she was born from an earlier encounter with Chu Feng, but the narration identifies this as a story given at Chu Feng’s instruction, not a confirmed account of conception 24 80.
- Realm terminology: Her restored cultivation is called both peak Hunyuan Golden Immortal and perfected Primordial Origin Golden Immortal. A later chapter grants another Primordial Grand Unity Golden Immortal Dao Fruit despite her already having achieved that named realm earlier 47 49 117 193.
