Background

Obito was originally Kakashi and Rin’s teammate under Namikaze Minato. During the Battle of Kannabi Bridge, he awakened his Two-Tomoe Sharingan, shielded Kakashi from falling rock, and gave Kakashi his eye before being presumed dead. 570

Madara Uchiha rescued him and systematically corrupted him. White Zetsu arranged for Obito to witness Rin’s death at Kakashi’s hand after Kirigakure turned her into the Three-Tails’ Jinchūriki; the trauma caused Obito’s Sharingan to leap directly to the Mangekyō state. 571
