Background / History

Hongjun first appears as an authority on cultivation realms, explaining the requirements for becoming a Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal. His teachings clarify the path forward for gathered gods and demons. 14

Before his public rise, Hongjun becomes indebted to Di Kun because Di Kun proposed and advocated the Immortal Dao. This karmic debt prevents Hongjun from directly attacking Di Kun, forcing him to consider indirect means instead. 15

Hongjun cooperates with hidden Chaos Gods and Demons through a fragment of the Creation Jade Disk. Their joint plan for the Primordial Land is disrupted by the emergence of new races and the development of the starry sky—changes they cannot identify or reverse. 54 55

When Pangu's Heart awakens and hastens the Heavenly Dao's emergence, Hongjun loses several planned advantages and presses his collaborators to reveal more of their concealed contingencies. 66

Personality

Hongjun presents himself as courteous, composed, and generous when dealing with Innate Races and powerful cultivators. He offers cultivation guidance freely, earning widespread gratitude and reverence. 54

Behind this public demeanor, he is cautious and calculating. He monitors disruptions to his plans, tests Di Kun's background, suspects the creator of the elves and related races, and uses the Ferocious Beast Kalpa to draw out hidden opponents. 55 60 62

After attaining Sainthood, Hongjun demonstrates an impartial teaching style, explaining cultivation distinctions and answering the assembly's questions. He also expresses loneliness at the difficulty of the Great Dao, hoping that more Daoists may walk alongside him. 198

Abilities & Skills

Dao Preaching

Hongjun's principal influence comes through lecturing on his Great Dao, later identified by Zhou Jun as the Immortal Dao. His teachings offer rapid early progress and produce many Primordial Unity Golden Immortals among the Innate Races. 57 58

  • Announces a Dao lecture at the foot of Mount Zhou a hundred years in advance. 57
  • Uses preaching to establish causal connections and gain Fortune from those who inherit his Dao. 54
  • Lectures on the Heavenly Dao in Purple Firmament Palace after becoming a Saint. 196
  • Completes three Saint-Dao lectures before preparing to Merge with the Dao. 219

Deduction and Scheming

Hongjun uses the Creation Jade Disk fragment to communicate with hidden collaborators, investigate anomalies, and deduce threats to their plans. 54 55

  • Identifies that newly created races are modeled on the Innate Dao Body. 58
  • Seeks the creator of the elves, gnomes, and winged people before that being can achieve the Dao Fruit. 58
  • Inserts private measures into his sermon to target the races' unknown creator. 60
  • Uses the coming Kalpa of Calamity as an opportunity to expose and eliminate an unknown disruptor. 55

Body-Switching Divine Ability

Hongjun can switch bodies, allowing him to act through a non-original body without leaving obvious traces. Di Kun discovers this only through careful observation. 67

  • Enables covert movement and arrangements while his original body appears to enter seclusion. 67
  • Causes Di Kun and Zhou Jun to treat Hongjun's movements with increased vigilance. 67

Saintly Authority

After becoming a Saint, Hongjun can open access to the Chaos through the Primordial Starry Sky and convene great powers in Purple Firmament Palace. 194 196

  • Explains the distinction between the Realm of Grand Unity Dao Fruit and Sainthood. 198
  • Establishes the Mysterious Gate and appoints seven Saints. 219
  • Distributes Innate Spirit Treasures according to fate before his Merge with the Dao. 220

  • Innate Spirit Treasure — discovered near Mount Zhou through the Creation Jade Disk fragment; Hongjun enters its formation but does not immediately collect it. 54
  • Innate Supreme Treasures — granted to the seven Saints selected through the Mysterious Gate. 219

Relationships

  • Di Kun — rival, fellow Daoist, and subject of mutual suspicion. Hongjun cannot directly harm him because of a karmic debt tied to the Immortal Dao. 15 61 62
  • Zhou Jun — an unknown opposing force whose actions disrupt Hongjun's plans; Hongjun seeks the creator connected to the newly created races. 54 58 60
  • Chaos Gods and Demons — uneasy collaborators connected through the Creation Jade Disk fragment; both sides conceal information and distrust the other. 54 55 66
  • Yang Mei — ally who joins Hongjun's force against Shen Ni and later accompanies him to Wuyi Mountain and the Western Continent. 75 94 179
  • Luohu — collaborator in the Western Continent; Luohu later offers to help Hongjun suppress the coming Calamity. 163 179
