Background / History

Hongyun was born as the first cloud in the world, formed from Innate Fire Qi. He resided on Huoyun Mountain, where local birds and beasts attended his lectures and addressed him as Old Ancestor Hongyun. His reputation among the Primordial Era's Sacred Beings was that of a warm-hearted helper. 187 188

When more than a dozen beings on Huoyun Mountain triggered Heavenly Tribulations, Hongyun attempted to protect them. Panhu secretly merged the tribulations into a multi-layered Nine-Nine Heavenly Tribulation to test Hongyun, nearly causing his death and Dao annihilation. By analyzing Hongyun's life essence blood, Panhu confirmed that he carried a hidden Pangu Bloodline. 188

While Hongyun recovered under Zhenyuanzi's care, Panhu personally awakened that bloodline. Hongyun initially looked down on the Witch Clan and was reluctant to be entangled with it, but accepted the awakening after learning that his pure Pangu Bloodline would not prevent him from cultivating a Primordial Spirit. 189

Hongjun later granted Hongyun a strand of Primordial Violet Qi during his final sermon. Although the qi represented a chance at Sagehood, it also made Hongyun a target for ambitious Great Experts. 210

After refining his body in the Chaos and reaching the Great Witch level, Hongyun returned to the Primordial Great Earth. East King Duke ambushed him for the Primordial Violet Qi, and other Quasi-Sages joined the pursuit after he escaped the initial formation. Facing death, Hongyun called upon the Thirteen Ancestral Witches for aid and agreed to join the Witch Clan. 212

Panhu drove off the attackers, and Hongyun became the Witch Clan's fourteenth Quasi-Sage and its most unusual Great Witch: one possessing both a Pangu Bloodline and a Primordial Spirit. The clan opened its treasure vault to him and hoped he would eventually become their Sage. 213

Determined to evolve further, Hongyun entered the Outer Chaos. He refined a drop of Panhu's essence blood, advanced into an Ancestral Witch, and survived pursuit by Yang Mei. After being stranded in Chaos, he discovered the Way of Creation within his bloodline and chose to create worlds as a path of proving the Dao by force. 240 242 244

Hongyun eventually returned to the Primordial Era after sensing the Witch Realm's coordinates. He reunited with Zhenyuanzi, learned that Panhu was Pangu, and planned to help the Ancestral Witches cultivate Primordial Spirits. His confrontation with Panhu led to Panhu sealing his body and banishing his Primordial Spirit to the Nine Netherworld. 273 275 277

After escaping, Hongyun learned from Hongjun that the Sun Star was Pangu's main body. Believing that remaining in the Primordial Era would leave him trapped in Pangu's scheme, he offered Primordial Violet Qi to Primordial Lord of Heaven in exchange for passage to an otherworldly realm. 299

In the Golden Crow World, Hongyun became a Sage, established Huoyun Palace within a Star System of his own creation, and began using Primordial Violet Qi to strengthen the world's Heavenly Dao. His willingness to potentially support the invading Three Pure Ones later caused Fuxi, Minghe, and Candle Dragon to jointly seal him. 302 317

Hongyun normally appears as a red-robed Daoist with an immortal bearing. His origins as an Innate Fire Cloud are reflected in his red auspicious cloud and extraordinary flight speed. 188 273
