Overview
The New World is a vast, real world governed by systems that overlap with—but do not fully follow—the rules of YGGDRASIL. Its northwestern corner is inhabited by humans, while the continent’s central regions are dominated by demi-humans and heteromorphic races. Tang Zheng arrives there more than four years before the Great Tomb of Nazarick’s descent. 1 17
Geography
Northwestern Corner
Humankind is concentrated in a comparatively small northwestern region of the continent. The Baharuth Empire forms the eastern edge of the human nations, with the vast Mount Keitenias range acting as a natural defensive boundary; only northern and southern openings lead beyond it. 17 379
- Beyond Mount Keitenias lie five Orc nations, followed farther east by the ruins of the former Inveria Kingdom. 379
- The Re-Estize Kingdom, Baharuth Empire, Slane Theocracy, Roble Holy Kingdom, Council State, and Draconic Kingdom are among the known states of this region. 357 362
- The Council State is a demi-human-led council nation in which five Dragon Lords hold permanent positions as supreme councilors. 357
- The Draconic Kingdom and Council State were both established around two hundred years ago, during the era of the Thirteen Heroes. 362
Central Continent
East of the former Inveria Kingdom lies a desolate region containing many smaller states, beyond which stand the Six Central Great Nations—prosperous powers far larger and richer than the remote northwest. 566
| Region / Nation | Known details |
|---|---|
| Great Orc Nation / Orc Federation | A major central power organized around Orc tribal groups. 566 767 |
| Great Troll Nation | A nation dominated by multiple Troll tribes, including Hill, Cave, Volcano, and War Trolls. 566 |
| Minotaur Nation | One of the Six Central Great Nations; its southwest territory is later seized by Sebas Tian. 566 749 |
| Great Kin Confederation | A council-led nation of many demi-human and heteromorphic peoples, centered on the capital Jiuming Nobula. 763 |
| Sirtab | A buffer state between the Orc Federation and Minotaur Nation, secretly ruled by the Gem Dragon Lord. 573 |
| Reseld Tribal Nation | A vast southwestern grassland ruled through nomadic tribes under a Monarch; the region has undergone at least three national changes. 386 |
Reports place a vast sea—or possibly an immense inland lake with islands—farther east than the Six Central Great Nations. 566
Inhabitants and Society
Humans are a short-lived race with comparatively limited potential and level caps. Demi-humans and heteromorphs generally surpass them in lifespan and individual strength; in many central regions, humans are enslaved or treated as food. 17
Despite this disadvantage, humanity retains the northwestern corner due in large part to the intervention of descended Players in earlier eras. 17
Language Translation
A world law automatically translates spoken language between nations and races. This allows people of different species to understand one another verbally, though it does not grant literacy in unfamiliar scripts. 1
Talents
Talents are innate special abilities found among the human population at an estimated rate of roughly one per two hundred people. Most are weak, but exceptional Talents can profoundly alter an individual’s potential. 2
Notable examples include:
- Player — Tang Zheng’s Talent, which grants Player-like characteristics, a status panel, an Item Box, experience-based leveling, and the ability to choose whether to accept classes. It cannot be observed or stolen. 2 4
- Nfirea Bareare’s genius classes — His Alchemist (Genius) and Pharmacist (Genius) variants expand the skills he can learn, allow earlier mastery of related techniques, and enhance their power. 3
- Elder Kaire’s Talent — Can offset costs related to life essence, including expenses comparable to experience consumption. 444
Systems and Phenomena
Class System
New World inhabitants normally gain classes automatically through life experience and learned skills, rather than freely selecting them. Common classes can include social positions such as Noble, Prince, Princess, King, Maid, or Slave. 4
Tang Zheng’s Player Talent reverses this limitation: he may accept or reject a class upon meeting its conditions. He can acquire basic classes by handling relevant weapons or equipment, while advanced classes may be unlocked after learning related skills. 3 8
Tier Magic and Life Magic
Tier Magic exists alongside a distinct New World tradition of 0th-Tier Life Magic. Life Magic can produce practical effects such as creating paper or heating objects. 24 29
Unlike standard YGGDRASIL Tier Magic, certain independently developed Life Magic spells can be upgraded by expending Skill Points:
- Paper Making can be raised from 0th to 1st Tier, increasing both paper quality and production volume. 29
- Warming can be raised from 0th to 1st Tier, increasing its heat from 100°C to 150°C. 29
- Standard summoning spells such as Summon Angel do not display the same upgrade mechanism. 81
Wild Magic
Wild Magic is associated with True Dragon Lords and is powered by Soul Energy drawn from the Soul River. Powerful Wild Magic can isolate battlefields, interfere with teleportation, and resist World-class effects. 406 414 612
Tang Zheng gains access to Wild Magic through the Primal Chanter class, then later obtains the World Connector special job, which grants Soul River-based abilities and enhanced Wild Magic. 406 414
World Items
World Items are artifacts formed from destroyed worlds in YGGDRASIL lore. After appearing in the New World, their effects may broaden or change, and ownerless items may create unusual natural phenomena. 345 389
Known World Items and related artifacts include:
- Two Worlds Mandala — Associated with the Buddha God and believed to be connected to the Reseld grasslands; Tang Zheng suspects it may possess time-related abilities. 385 400
- Nameless Spellbook — Records Tier Magic and enables Tang Zheng to learn Control Amnesia, a spell capable of altering NPC memories. 344 517 544
- Downfall of Castle and Country — Used through Nfirea to alter the Elf King’s loyalties. 464
- Abyss of Hell — A World Item associated with the Deep Darkness Dragon Lord’s isolated battlefield. 612
- He Shi Bi — An imperial-seal-shaped World Item deployed by the Platinum Dragon Lord. 682
- Greed and Avarice — A World Item Tang Zheng states he stole from the Sorcerer Kingdom. 771
History
Descents of Players
Records cited by Tang Zheng describe repeated Player-related descents and catastrophes across the New World’s history:
| Event | Approximate date | Significance |
|---|---|---|
| Descent of the Six Great Gods | 600 years ago | Their arrival is credited with aiding humanity’s survival. 17 |
| Descent of the Eight Greed Kings | 500 years ago | Their rule and later internal collapse left behind the Floating City and numerous legacies. 17 561 |
| Buddha God’s era | At least 250–400 years ago | A Player or Player faction associated with the World Item Two Worlds Mandala and an earlier Reseld nation. 385 386 |
| Chaos of the Demon Gods | 200 years ago | Powerful Monsters descended from the game and caused widespread disasters; the Thirteen Heroes emerged during this era. 17 177 |
| Arrival of the Great Tomb of Nazarick | New Calendar Year 1 | Nazarick enters the New World, introducing a new Player faction and accelerating continental conflict. 590 |
The Eight Greed Kings’ disappearance was not merely legend: a major rebellion by guild residents and background NPCs occurred during the later period of their rule. 561
Current Era
The arrival of Nazarick destabilizes the balance among human nations, Dragon Lords, surviving Player legacies, and the central powers. The Sorcerer Kingdom expands through military conquest, vassalage, and the promotion of Undead labor. 661 717 719
Tang Zheng establishes influence in the Abelion Hills, later controls the Floating City, and seeks World Items, New World technologies, and methods to resist both Nazarick and the True Dragon Lords. 542 544 691
Notable Locations
- Great Forest of Tob — A major forest once ruled by Hamsuke, the Wise King of the Forest; its southern region falls into disorder after Hamsuke’s death before Demon Snake Naga restores order. 147
- Abelion Hills — Tang Zheng’s primary power base, inhabited by humans, Trolls, Goblins, Lizardmen, Zern, Pandex, and other groups under his authority. 274 691
- Floating City — The former guild base of the Eight Greed Kings. Its Guild Weapon and management system enable control over its facilities, traps, POP Monsters, and defenses, but not its independent NPCs. 508 530 542
- Inveria Kingdom — Evileye’s destroyed homeland, located far east of the human nations beyond Mount Keitenias and the Orc nations. 375 379
- Council Hill — A site in the Reseld grasslands connected to a dungeon-like Sanctum that requires specific class, karma, and spellcasting conditions to enter. 389 390
- Valley of Despair — A remote eastern stronghold and one of Tang Zheng’s holdings. 482 566
- Sirtab — A large, slave-dependent buffer state near the Beelzebub Plateau, where Platinum Ore is mined under the Gem Dragon Lord’s authority. 573
Trivia
- The New World’s technology is generally medieval, but magic substitutes for many practical technologies, including paper production and magical lighting. 24
- New World alchemy, potion-making, and scroll production differ substantially from YGGDRASIL systems and rely heavily on practical knowledge, materials, and technique rather than simple game-style crafting. 56 79 694
- The continent’s true scale is far greater than maps of the human nations suggest; the human-held northwest is only a small marked corner of the wider world. 362
