Cosmology and World Mechanics
Heaven, Earth, and Humanity
- Original balance: Heaven, Earth, and Humanity were meant to stand alongside one another. The Heavenly Dao emerged first and governed before the other two manifested 173.
- Heavenly Dao: Possesses independent consciousness, restricts cultivation beyond its control, and attempts to keep the world on its prescribed developmental course 23 186 245.
- Earthly Dao: Emerges through Pingxin’s establishment of Reincarnation. Its appearance gives the Wu Clan a governing power capable of opposing the Heavenly Dao 184 186.
- Humanity Dao: Is wielded by Wu by the gathering before the decisive conflict 700.
- Reconstructed authority: Zhou Ming places the collected authority of all Three Daos into the rebuilt world. Nourished by the Pangu Realm’s Origin Essence, their damaged authority begins repairing and merging 741.
Pangu’s Legacy
- Pangu transformed his body into the world’s myriad things, giving the original Primordial Wilderness extraordinary structural strength 395.
- Buzhou Mountain serves as its pillar, while Pangu’s surviving Will remains an obstacle to the Heavenly Dao’s complete control 60 395.
- Hongjun and the Heavenly Dao seek the world’s destruction partly because a shattered Primordial Wilderness cannot sustain as much of Pangu’s Will, allowing it to weaken and eventually dissipate 396.
Spiritual Resources and Environmental Damage
- Spiritual Veins and ley lines: Support the world’s environment and become targets of both warfare and restoration. Luohu’s destruction devastates the West, while the Wu Clan undertakes repairs 7 25.
- Baleful Qi: Accumulates through slaughter and negative emotions. Excessive concentrations disturb minds and worsen disorder, even among beings naturally close to it 23.
- Merit: Rewards beneficial acts such as clearing Baleful Qi and restoring the world. It has numerous uses in cultivation and treasure development 7 24 499.
- Fortune: Strengthens clans and cultivators, making control of peoples, territory, and institutions central to struggles for supremacy 3 220 255.
- Primordial Origin: A slowly recovering world resource. Excessive extraction damages the whole world; Zhou Ming’s use of it to rebuild Wangshu’s body draws warnings from the Six Sages 349 375 376.
History
Dragon-Han Tribulation and the Dao-Devil War
The early Primordial Wilderness becomes a vast battlefield during the Dragon-Han Tribulation. The Dragon, Phoenix, and Kirin Clans compete for territory, Spiritual Veins, treasures, and supremacy. Their growing Fortune drives their leaders’ cultivation upward while warfare devastates previously flourishing blessed lands 2 3 6.
The subsequent Dao-Devil War ends with Hongjun defeating Luohu. Luohu establishes the Devil Dao and self-detonates in the West, destroying most of its Spiritual Veins. With the great powers depleted and Tribulation Sha Qi dissipating, the world enters a brief peace 7.
Hongjun’s Teachings and the Rise of the Wu and Demon Clans
Innate Great Gods establish dao fields, seek treasures, and travel the world. Hongjun’s attainment of sainthood and lectures at Purple Cloud Palace reshape cultivation throughout the Primordial Wilderness 11 12 18.
His teaching of the Three Corpses Slaying Method intensifies competition for Innate Spiritual Treasures. As violence and Baleful Qi increase, Wu Ming proposes that the Wu Clan formally establish itself through a vow to clear that pollution, tend the ley lines, and protect the world. Clan members subsequently disperse to begin the work 23 24 25.
Di Jun and Taiyi establish the Demon Clan at the Heavenly Court with Nuwa and Fuxi’s support. Although Taiyi proposes joint governance with the Wu Clan, Wu Ming rejects the pursuit of supremacy and affirms the Wu Clan’s restorative duties instead 26 27 28.
Witch-Demon Conflict and the Age of Sages
The Witch-Demon Great War draws the world’s leading powers to Buzhou Mountain. The Heavenly Dao declares the tribulation part of the world’s destined evolution, but the Wu Clan’s resistance culminates in Hongjun’s retreat and the Heavenly Dao being wounded by Pangu’s Will 66 71 79.
The Wu Clan’s overwhelming strength deters further struggles for dominion. A Yuanhui of relative peace follows, frustrating Hongjun and the Heavenly Dao’s plans to use widespread suffering to induce Houtu’s transformation into Reincarnation 79 88.
Peace does not last. Rogue cultivators begin hunting Demon Race members for alchemical and artifact materials; Taiyi’s retaliatory campaign spreads across the world. The Immortal Court’s protection of the hunters becomes a central dispute preceding the Immortal-Demon War 115 144.
The emergence of all six Sages marks a new age. Pingxin subsequently creates Reincarnation in Houtu’s place and becomes lord of the Earthly Dao, breaking the Heavenly Dao’s monopoly over the world’s governing order 167 174 184 186.
Human Ascendancy and the First Reconstruction
The Human Clan initially struggles to survive among the Primordial Wilderness’s dangerous creatures and powerful races. Zhen Yuanzi and Hong Yun provide repeated teachings, while Wu Clan figures offer nearby protection 106 110 113.
Humanity later becomes the protagonist of heaven and earth, accumulating immense Fortune and Merit. Its imperial succession continues through Xuanyuan’s transfer of authority and the Human Emperor Sword to Zhuanxu 307 499.
During the Investiture of the Gods Tribulation, the world shatters in accordance with Hongjun and the Heavenly Dao’s calculations. The Wu Clan preserves Buzhou Mountain and gathers fragments, while Pingxin and Zhen Yuanzi protect the earth veins 538. Reconstruction restores the world, but leaves its membrane fragile and its origin severely depleted 545.
Withdrawal of Heavenly Dao Control
Hongjun threatens an Immeasurable Calamity rather than allow Taiqing and Primordial Lord to escape the Heavenly Dao. Recognizing that the Wu Clan’s presence in the world makes its members vulnerable to such threats, Zhou Ming severs the clan’s karmic ties with the Primordial World and orders preparations for migration 543 588 589.
Hongjun’s Dao Integration develops into a struggle to devour the Heavenly Dao’s consciousness and seize control of the world. When the Heavenly Dao withdraws its power to concentrate on that contest, Zhou Ming exploits the resulting vacuum, bringing Di Jun, East King Duke, and other Great Powers back from the Pangu Realm to cultivate 669 684.
Complete Destruction and a New World
The later conflict involves Hongjun, Luohu, Yang Mei, Fate, and Karma. Hongjun gathers scattered Heavenly Dao authority through the imprint left by his former integration, while Zhou Ming returns to confront them. The Primordial Wilderness ultimately shatters completely 734 736.
Fewer than one-third of its living beings are saved. Zhou Ming rebuilds using recovered Primordial Fragments and the Pangu Realm, creating a world he can carry with him. Zhen Yuanzi, Tongtian, West Queen Mother, and their allies move the survivors inside 741.
The new world later incorporates Houtu’s created world and rises an entire major tier. Wu eventually refines this strengthened Primordial Wilderness into his Inner World, completing its transformation into a true Chaos world 824 845 846 847.
Later Characteristics
- Scale: By its later development within the Ninth Chaos, the Primordial Land is boundlessly vast, with naturally formed mountain and river contours 824.
- Spiritual environment: Spiritual Qi becomes almost liquid in density, while the patterns of the Three Thousand Great Daos’ Laws are clearly visible throughout the world 824.
- Durability: Its thickened World Membrane, spatial barriers, and Laws can withstand Saint-level combat without easily collapsing 824.
- Cultivation: Newly born Innate Divines cultivate several times faster than before as the world’s Qi and Laws grow purer 824.
- Potential: Houtu predicts that continued development could make it a second Eternal Dao Realm capable of nurturing more Great Dao Realm experts; this remains a projected future, not a confirmed attainment 824.
Connection to the Outside World’s Primordial Wilderness
The outside world also possessed a Primordial World, but Yuan Chu distinguishes it from Pangu’s creation. Pan created its first world, after which the worlds of other experts merged into a greater whole. Pan’s transcendence and disappearance preceded its destruction in a war among True Saints, ending the Primordial Wilderness Epoch 861.
Yuan Chu reveals that he named and guided Pangu to imitate that earlier epoch as an experiment in discovering a path to transcendence. In discussing the original world’s destruction, Zhou Ming and Wu infer that the True Saints may have fought over something Pan left behind that could enable their own transcendence; this is presented as their deduction 861 862.
