Background & History

Feng Ying was raised in the poor North Mountain Small Fishing Village. A capable boatwoman familiar with every reef and shallow in the lake, she returned home in secrecy during the unrest surrounding her village and found its chickens stolen and its household emptied of safety and comfort 1431.

Initially a wild-tempered girl who dismissed gods and Immortals as nonsense, Feng Ying began receiving dreams from the Lake God and Mountain God Grandma. They warned her that outsiders were damaging the Earth Vein, endangering the lake and nearby towns, and told her that she possessed dormant Immortal power 1429. During flooding and enemy violence, she used the lake terrain to evade pursuit, including faking a boat accident to deceive her enemies 1432.

She encountered Yu while confronting an Evil Artifact and reanimated corpses. After witnessing Yu’s skill, Feng Ying followed her, carrying a rusty straight saber that began shedding its rust and responding to both of them 1434. Yu offered to teach her how to grow stronger, and Feng Ying chose to leave her village behind to seek the distant Sky Pillar Mountain and the Dragon Girl from her dreams 1436.

During their travels, Feng Ying and Yu sheltered war-stricken villagers, fought evil spirits and bandits, and gradually earned local respect without acting superior as cultivators 1552. Feng Ying repeatedly chose her companion’s well-being over material gain: when offered a chance to request almost anything from the Strange Girl, she asked for Yu’s lost memories to be restored 1519.

At Sky Pillar Mountain, Feng Ying and Yu were hunted by the Yun Clan Immortal Domain. Guided by the awakened saber, Feng Ying entered an abandoned Dragon Girl Temple, where the North Heavenly Gate Guardian immortal armor merged with her 1635 1637. After separating from Yu to enter the ice cave alone, she used the saber to cut the evil black chains binding the frozen Dragon Girl, Bai Yujun, causing Sky Pillar Mountain to collapse and ending the war 1708 1710.

Bai Yujun healed Feng Ying, cultivated with her, and entrusted her with the Divine Weapon and immortal armor. Feng Ying’s first wish was not for herself, but for Yu’s safety; Bai Yujun then revealed that Yu had formed from one of her dragon scales 1711 1712. Feng Ying later became a Heavenly General and was formally acknowledged as Bai Yujun’s first—and perhaps only—student 1800 1831.

Even when badly injured and exhausted, she continues toward the sealed Dragon Girl because she believes freeing Bai Yujun can save Yu and end the war 1709 1710.
