Background / History

The gods created Gilgamesh from mortal royalty and divine lineage as a “wedge” meant to control humanity. Initially praised as an ideal ruler, he grew into a tyrant who seized wealth to impose his will. The gods sent Enkidu to oppose him; their battle ended in a draw, and the two became friends. Together they defeated Humbaba and the Bull of Heaven, but the gods cursed Enkidu to weaken and die 5.

Enkidu’s death drove Gilgamesh to seek eternal life. He obtained the Immortal Herb in the underworld, intending to bring its power back to Uruk, but the snake Lin Xian swallowed it while he rested. Gilgamesh threatened to execute the thief, then pardoned him after Lin Xian offered a vision of a reunion with Enkidu 5 6 7.

On returning to Uruk, Gilgamesh found its Fate Tablet blank and embraced the chance to shape an uncertain future. Facing plague, floods and demonic beasts, he ordered the construction of the Absolute Demonic Beast Front, Babylonia. His subsequent alliance with Samael committed them to confronting the Triple Goddess Alliance and rewriting Uruk’s fate 14 73 74.

During the Black Tide, Gilgamesh fought Apsu and entrusted Samael with Uruk’s Royal Seal while he stayed behind with Enkidu. He later spent the Treasury of Babylon’s riches on a Great Sacrifice to summon Tiamat, then used his Gouging Sword to open the World Wall for her return. After the crisis, he argued that Uruk should not remain under one ruler indefinitely 131 132 158 160 176.

Appearance

Gilgamesh is a handsome blond man with scarlet eyes. In battle, he wears golden armor that leaves part of his chest bare, exposing crimson divine markings 5 60 478.

Personality

Gilgamesh is proud, sharp-tongued and easily amused by audacity. His threats toward Lin Xian are genuine, yet the snake’s wit earns a pardon. As king, he demands rapid action from his officials while remembering the needs of individual subordinates, including a soldier with a newborn grandchild 6 7 49.

He distrusts a fixed destiny and refuses to follow the gods’ intended role for him. Although he can be harsh toward those who offer to help, he places Uruk’s survival first: he rewards courage, delegates authority when weakened and spends his wealth when it can save his people 14 49 50 113 158.
