Background / History
Mash was created within Chaldea and subjected to harsh experiments intended to produce a Demi-Servant. Her body was fused with the Spirit Origin of Galahad, the purest knight of the Round Table. Galahad’s anger at Chaldea’s treatment of her was so intense that Mash had to stop him from breaking out; he ultimately left his Spirit Origin behind so that she could protect herself. 1049 1307
Her artificial upbringing left her with a short expected lifespan—initially described as roughly the time needed to resolve the Incineration of Humanity. Before meeting Ritsuka, the people she interacted with most at Chaldea were Roman and Lev. 974 1022
At the Fuyuki Singularity, Mash began as Chaldea’s sole combat-capable Heroic Spirit despite not being intended as its primary frontline force. Her shield had originally been meant to serve as a summoning-circle component for other Masters; instead, she became the person standing between Ritsuka and the enemy. 972
Appearance
Mash is a petite girl who carries an oversized greatshield, creating a striking contrast between her stature and her fighting style. Her bangs cover one eye, a feature that draws particular notice from Bartholomew Roberts. 970 1198
- Wields a large shield capable of functioning as both a defensive barrier and a blunt weapon. 972 1057
- Normally manifests a Servant outfit in combat. 1104
- Uses the black Oltenaus exoskeleton armor after its completion. 1140
- Later attaches the Schwarz Cannon Barrel to Oltenaus, transforming her shield into a large black cannon. 1226
Personality
Mash is compassionate to an extreme degree and initially tends to accommodate others rather than assert her own wishes. Da Vinci notes that, because of her origins, Mash once struggled to express a personality or desire separate from what others wanted of her. 1281
Her experiences alongside Ritsuka gradually make her more decisive. In the American Singularity, she recognizes that protecting Ritsuka must come before hesitation; in the Fae Britain Lostbelt, she is notably more assertive and challenges Ash’s assumption that Chaldea are invaders. 1050 1307
Though formidable, Mash does not seek strength or battle for its own sake. Her low vigilance when speaking with enemies is identified as a weakness, particularly when opponents directly target Ritsuka. 1394
Abilities & Skills
Demi-Servant Physiology
Mash possesses Servant-level strength, speed, reflexes, and endurance through her fusion with Galahad.
- Defeats Dragon Tooth Warriors and an Assassin despite still being unable to use her Noble Phantasm. 971
- Blocks artillery fire and shields Ritsuka from explosions in the American Singularity. 1049
- Eliminates Demonic Beasts with single shield strikes after further synchronizing with Galahad. 1067
- Can carry Ritsuka while retreating at speed. 1220
- Can be physically overwhelmed by exceptionally powerful foes, including an Olympian reservist and Dobrynya Nikitich. 1220 1380
Shield Combat
Mash uses her greatshield aggressively as well as defensively.
- Shield-bashes enemies powerful enough to send Sphinxes through temple walls and Purification Knights flying. 1056 1057
- Opened an escape route for civilians during the Holy Selection massacre. 1057
- Defeated multiple mechanical soldiers while coordinating with Ritsuka’s magecraft. 1049
- Fought Lancelot directly, using both her shield and a punch to force him back. 1062
- In a rare display of fury, killed Ocelotl attackers after believing Chaldea staff had been massacred. 1457
Noble Phantasm: Camelot / “Already Distant Utopia”
Mash manifests vast white walls associated with Camelot, her primary means of protecting Ritsuka and allies.
- First used in a simulated form against Black Arthur’s Excalibur. 972
- Stopped the headless giant wolf knight charging directly at Ritsuka. 1089
- Blocked Ivan the Terrible’s divine lightning and Anastasia’s Noble Phantasm. 1135 1136
- Countered Scheherazade’s Noble Phantasm in Nevernight City. 1105
- Held firm against ORT’s attacks while protecting the Nautilus. 1504
- Cannot be deployed repeatedly without limitation; after using it against Ivan’s lightning, Mash could not immediately activate it again. 1135
Oltenaus and Schwarz Cannon Barrel
Oltenaus is a Spirit Origin exoskeleton Mystic Code designed by Da Vinci and enhanced with imported Valkyrie armor technology.
- Raises Mash’s physical output enough for her and Ritsuka to defeat four Titans. 1140
- Supports aerial combat, including her coordinated battle against Nikitich’s dragon. 1381
- The Schwarz Cannon Barrel gives Oltenaus a high-output cannon configuration. 1226
- Its firepower was significant enough that Nikitich considered it a serious threat after seeing Mash use it. 1382
Aegis Shield
Europa grants Mash the Aegis Shield, a Lostbelt Divine Heritage made from nanomachines.
- Enhances her Shielder abilities and is compared to “adding wings to a tiger.” 1241
- Its appearance shocks Castor and Pollux, who believed no Aegis artifacts remained in the Lostbelt. 1241
Chaldea Knowledge
Mash was implanted with extensive information about magecraft and the wider magical world during her creation.
- Identified ORT and summarized its known properties from Chaldea’s records. 1440
- Uses historical and mythological knowledge while investigating Singularities and Lostbelts. 1015 1220
