Background / History
Guilliman was created in 792.M30 as the thirteenth of the Emperor's twenty-one Primarchs. His material body was paired with a Warp essence described as the echo of order from Ultramar's five hundred worlds; this essence causes those around him to be drawn into his systems, workload, and rules. 368
He was raised on Macragge by Lady Thalassa Yuton and Lord Konnor. Their parental care remained central to him long after becoming the Regent: in a later dream, he recognizes Yuton's childhood height marks and kneels before Konnor as his father. 654 655
Following the Great Heresy, Guilliman established the High Lords Council and implemented the Codex Astartes. His former attempt to build the Second Imperium with Sanguinius and Lion El'Jonson left him deeply wary of both the project's political strain and Lion's unpredictability. 425 538
Fulgrim's betrayal left Guilliman mortally wounded and confined in stasis for ten thousand years. Sanguinius and Zhou Yun later arranged to purge the lingering corruption from his wounds by killing and restoring him; Fulgrim attempted to corrupt or possess his body during this process. 239 278
Guilliman awakened during the Black Legion's assault on Fortress Hera. He immediately slaughtered the invaders, reunited with the resurrected Sanguinius, and learned that the Imperium had become a theocratic, decaying state that worshipped both the Emperor and Primarchs as gods. 279 280 281
Appearance
Guilliman is a towering Primarch with the appearance of a handsome Macragge military noble. Even before his resurrection, depictions of his face were recognizable enough that Zhou Yun could impersonate him convincingly. 134 286
- Short, dazzling golden hair; later shows white strands from exhaustion. 286 594
- Pale, marble-like features and a stern, rational expression. 286 594
- Golden eyes associated with wisdom and reason, with deeply concealed anger. 134
- Over three meters tall and physically imposing even among Astartes. 286
- Usually wears blue-and-gold power armor, most notably the Armor of Fate. 279 286
- Can manifest a golden, Warp-infused form under extreme threat. 627
Personality
Guilliman is an idealist who believes humanity can reach a better future despite the galaxy's cruelty. Sanguinius considers him the proudest of the Primarchs—not because he boasts, but because he genuinely believes that he can lead humanity toward salvation. 281
He is rational, courteous, and frank in personal dealings, carefully hearing reports from soldiers, inquisitors, Mechanicus representatives, and xenos envoys after his resurrection. The collapse of the Imperium nonetheless devastates him; he carries guilt for failing to reach Terra in time and for the fates of the Emperor and Sanguinius. 281
His defining flaw is compulsive responsibility. Guilliman does not enjoy ruling, but believes that many vital duties can only be done by him. This makes him chronically exhausted, reluctant to delegate, and vulnerable to Warp attacks that weaponize his accumulated fatigue, grief, and self-reproach. 332 360 612
Despite his materialist worldview, he gradually confronts the fact that he is a Warp-infused Primarch. He remains uncomfortable with faith, miracles, numerology, and psychic phenomena—even when his own powers repeatedly prove they exist. 323 347 692
Abilities & Skills

- Survived fighting Fat Tiger, a Great Daemon capable of draining power from those it considers friends. 289

- Can endure the vacuum of space, though he himself remains skeptical of this fact. 712
Strategic Command
Guilliman excels at battlefield coordination, logistics, and precise force deployment.
- Organized Grey Knights, Ultramarines, and Blood Angels into coordinated formations immediately after awakening. 280

Administrative Genius
Guilliman can process military, political, and economic information on an immense scale.
- Rebuilt Ultramar's administration and military capacity after his return despite constant overwork. 291 332
- Negotiated extensive cooperation with the Eldar involving technology access, intelligence sharing, joint command, and territorial interests. 309
- Identified inefficient distribution and over-specialization as major causes of Imperial economic dysfunction. 691
- His Warp nature subtly pushes nearby people into prolonged overtime and acceptance of his planned order. 368 427
Warp Essence of Order
Guilliman's Warp essence is tied to the order of Ultramar's five hundred worlds.
- Those near him are unconsciously drawn into his organizational norms and workload. 368
- His influence becomes more pronounced as he leads Imperial reforms on Terra. 427
- He has little natural awareness of this Warp connection and initially insists on a materialist understanding of himself. 347
King's Hand
Guilliman can cure the Tear Plague through direct contact, an ability he did not know he possessed.
- His presence immediately cures patients in an Ultramar ward. 323
- He and Zhou Yun travel through Ultramar using the Anywhere Door to heal further victims. 323
- The Ecclesiarchy publicizes these cures as miracles, much to Guilliman's discomfort. 323
Equipment
- Armor of Fate — His signature blue-and-gold power armor; durable enough to withstand Fat Tiger's attacks and associated with his resurrection. 279 289
- Emperor's Sword — A perpetually burning blade used against Black Legionnaires, Magnus, and other enemies. 279 370
- Hand of Dominion — A cerulean power fist capable of crushing Haken's Chaos relic and tearing off his head and spine. 537
- Anywhere Door — A device supplied by Zhou Yun that Guilliman uses for rapid administration and battlefield command. 291 323
Relationships
- Sanguinius — Brother, co-ruler of Ultramar, and Guilliman's most important emotional support after his resurrection. Guilliman shares power over Macragge and Ultramar with him. 280 286 570
- Zhou Yun / Saint Doraemon — Ally who helped kill, purge, and resurrect Guilliman. Guilliman distrusts Zhou Yun's Warp nature but accepts his aid for humanity's sake. 280 282
- Fulgrim — Brother whose betrayal caused Guilliman's ten-thousand-year stasis. Guilliman remains furious and distrustful even toward Fulgrim's clone, though he later lets the clone assist with administration. 570 612 616
- Lady Thalassa Yuton — Adoptive mother on Macragge; Guilliman retains profound love for her and promises to rest when she urges him to care for himself. 654 655
- Lord Konnor — Adoptive father on Macragge; Guilliman credits him with teaching him something more genuine than ruling. 655
- Lion El'Jonson — Estranged brother and former Second Imperium co-ruler. Guilliman sees Lion as valuable in desperation but dangerously disruptive in stable circumstances. 538
- Leman Russ — Brother whom Guilliman respects as a warrior but distrusts politically due to Russ's unpredictability and past conflicts. 404 570
- Mortarion — Former enemy and uneasy associate. Their arguments center on responsibility, love, resilience, and numerology; Mortarion ultimately stays near Guilliman to protect him. 691 692
- Belisarius Cawl — Mechanicus ally responsible for the Armor of Fate and the means of Guilliman's resurrection. 239 279
- Demetrian Titus — Ultramarine whom Guilliman reinstates and assigns to Saint Doraemon's honor guard, affirming that past suspicion cannot erase Titus's honor. 457
