Background

Before transmigrating, Roy lived in China as an ordinary photographer. His elderly parents died when he was twenty-two, leaving him two apartments in the imperial capital; he supported himself through wedding and cosplay photography. 4

He transmigrated into the world of A Certain Magical Index approximately a century before its main events and became the son of Aleister Crowley. Because Aleister had forgotten his children and was being hunted by magicians worldwide, Roy deliberately avoided claiming the Crowley name and lived quietly with his sister, Laura. 1

At first, Roy had neither esper abilities nor the power to protect Laura from the demon within her. This helplessness drove his desire for power and knowledge. 1 2 His study of The Book of 777 culminated in his transformation into BEAST 777, after which he disappeared from the Imaginary Phase. 3

Roy later slew Michael and became a Campione. Rather than accepting god-slaying power as an endpoint, he pursued magic, ritual theory, Spirit Base fusion, and knowledge from other worlds to surpass the inherent limits of Campiones. 7 29 62

Appearance

Roy is a tall, silver-haired youth with an androgynous, strikingly beautiful face inherited from Aleister Crowley. At fifteen, he was already close to 1.8 meters tall. 2

Roy is fundamentally driven by knowledge. He considers power inseparable from understanding and repeatedly seeks to learn unfamiliar magical systems, from Campione Authorities and Solomon's magecraft to the Immortal Path, Golden Dawn magic, and the knowledge held by Yog-Sothoth. 2 29 92 691

He is patient, calculating, and highly pragmatic. As King of Italy, he coerced six magic societies into allegiance rather than allowing a prolonged political dispute; he also routinely exploits identity, leverage, and others' ambitions to achieve larger goals. 10 11 384 741 His pursuit of knowledge can make him ruthless, including removing his own eye to create a Magic Eye. 32

Despite his self-interest and willingness to use force, Roy is described as gentle, thoughtful, and decisive rather than someone who merely bullies the weak. 15 He retains his human attachments even after reaching the rank of a Demon God, ultimately refusing the absolute transcendence of 10=1 so that he can preserve his emotions and relationships. 722 896
