Background / History

The Shen Family’s Earth Vein had declined severely by Shen Qingshan’s generation: he was its sole surviving member and retained only four mid-grade inherited cultivation methods. These were the external Zhengyang Art, internal Fervent Heart Art, Shen Family Spear, and Burning Cloud Hand. 10 11

The family’s main body did not reside in the Five Domains. Its Star Domain elders identified descendants through their cultivation of the Zhengyang Art, which only Shen bloodline members were believed capable of practicing. Ten years before Chen Yi learned the truth, Shen Qingshan was forcibly taken to the Star Domain by Shen elders, leaving Chen Yun and Shen Jia behind because his status did not permit him to bring out-of-domain relatives. 47

The family had spent over thirty thousand years building its Star Domain foundation under Shen Yang. Shen Yang later explained that the Star Domain had originally been an uninhabitable wilderness; the Shen Clan gradually reclaimed its stars, established livable settlements, and discovered its resources through generations of labor. 104 328

Although its members presented the Mirror Holder selection as a chance for Earth Vein descendants to obtain cultivation methods, resources, and the right to wield the Qiankun Mirror, the contest also screened candidates for Shen Yang’s Soul Compatibility Secret Technique. 98 104

Shen Yang’s system used cultivation methods, pills, and medicinal baths to make selected descendants’ constitutions resemble his original body. The most compatible candidate would become his next vessel, enabling him to prolong his life through a process resembling body seizure. 104 105

The family’s apparent indolence was also partly deliberate deception. Its senior members and Star Vein disciples performed the role of unmotivated hedonists so that Earth Vein candidates would believe the Mirror Holder position was genuinely needed to restore the clan’s martial spirit. 103

After Chen Yi exposed Shen Wanquan’s collusion with the Dragon Person Race, Shen Yang launched a clan-wide purge. The Shen Family subsequently began sharing resources, teachers, spiritual artifacts, formations, pills, and cultivation expertise with weaker Human World factions in preparation for war. 227 228

Shen Qingshan eventually merged with Shen Yang through the Dual Soul Saint Body. The Star Domain’s population is spread across numerous habitable stars and is described as too vast to be considered merely a family. Its members enjoy abundant resources, safety from most conflict, and access to the Star Power Mysterious Realm. 97

Shen Linfeng and Shen Lincong descend to Qingzhou to locate eligible Earth Vein descendants. Their compass mistakenly identifies Chen Yi because Shen Qingshan had replaced the Zhengyang Art with another cultivation method and could no longer be detected. 96

Chen Yi travels with the elders to the Star Domain, observes the clan’s vast scale and luxurious lifestyle, and becomes suspicious of the family’s intentions. 97

The Mirror Holder Scheme

Shen Yue gathers 101 Earth Vein descendants and announces the Qiankun Mirror contest. The family claims that the Star Vein’s comfort has weakened its members, making hardened Earth Vein descendants necessary candidates. 98

Chen Yi rapidly completes the family’s three cultivation methods and reaches the Spirit Sea Realm with the clan’s resources, drawing the attention of Shen Yue and the senior leadership. 102

Shen Qingshan agrees to merge with Shen Yang only after securing protection for his family and guaranteed time to control the shared body. Shen Yang accepts, granting Shen Qingshan control during the day and retaining the night for himself until Chen Yun and Shen Jia live out their lives. 225

At Chen Yi’s urging, Shen Yang mobilizes the Shen Family’s forces and resources to unite the Human World against the Dragon Person Race. The Luo Lineage appears to rescue him but instead imprisons him for twenty years, forcing him to produce artifacts, pills, formations, talismans, puppets, and instruction for the clan. 590

Luo Shui, the patriarch’s youngest daughter and one of Shen Yang’s students, secretly cares for him and eventually helps him escape. The two become wanted fugitives after fleeing Tianmang Star, and Luo Shui is afflicted with a layer of corrosive Killing Intent placed over her face by her father. 590

Shen Yang spends more than a century searching for a cure, sacrificing his own cultivation and remaining far behind other ascenders. Chen Yi eventually identifies the danger in Shen Yang’s alchemical treatment and uses the Devouring Heaven Demon Blade to remove the Killing Intent without inflicting the treatment’s crippling side effect. 590 591 592

Stewardship after the Ancestor’s Departure

When Chen Yi later departs for the Ascension Path, Shen Yue helps conceal his movement from potential Demon Race interference. The clan also reaffirms Shen Yang’s instruction that Chen Yun and Shen Jia are to be treated as ancestors of the entire Star Domain Shen Family. 340

After Chen Yi’s group reunites in the Real Realm, Shen Yang and Luo Shui support the effort to create a cultivation paradise and revive humanity. They remain behind at Spirit Micro Star to conduct research and establish a school for scientific and technical talent. 592 601
