History
Vegeta arrived on Earth with Nappa, killed his own comrade, and challenged Son Goku with absolute confidence in his status as the Saiyan Prince. Goku’s Triple Kaio-ken ultimately overwhelmed him and buried him beneath a hill, though Vegeta’s resilience kept him alive 2.
After recovering under the Frieza Force, Vegeta learned that Frieza was pursuing Namek’s Dragon Balls. Fearing Frieza’s immortality, he openly broke from the organization and rushed to Namek himself 14. He defeated Cui, fought Zarbon, and destroyed his Scouter after learning ki control on Earth; Zarbon’s Demon Transformation then left him severely wounded 17 20 21. Son Gohan chose to heal him, partly because Vegeta’s continued survival could produce more Battle Power attributes 21.
Following the Namek conflict, Goku invited the homeless Vegeta to Earth to train in gravity chambers. Vegeta refused outwardly but accepted the opportunity, determined to eventually surpass Goku 40.
Personality
Vegeta’s identity is rooted in royal pride. He repeatedly calls himself the Saiyan Prince and a genius warrior, taking particular offense at being challenged, underestimated, or surpassed by “low-class” Saiyans such as Goku 2.
He seeks strong opponents with near-compulsive intensity. He competes with Goku over the right to fight enemies, even settling one dispute with rock-paper-scissors, and rejects assistance against Dabura because he wants the battle for himself 99 235 237. This confidence can turn reckless, as shown when he tried to overload Super 17 despite knowing the Android could absorb energy 140.
Over time, his priorities broaden beyond pride. He gives Nappa a chance to leave before killing him, fights beside Goku against Syn Shenron, accepts Gohan’s help against Frieza, and humbles himself enough to ask Gohan for Super Saiyan 4 training advice 136 155 275 326.
Abilities & Skills
Ki Control and High-Speed Combat
Vegeta is a close-range fighter who combines rapid movement, heavy strikes, and sustained ki bombardment.
- Learned to control and conceal his ki on Earth, making his Scouter unnecessary 20.
- Uses high-speed movement to evade attacks and reposition behind opponents 17.
- Employs a “Prince’s fighting style” centered on rapid barrages of Energy Blasts 17 140.
- Can maintain combat pressure through repeated punches, kicks, and energy attacks even against opponents with superior regeneration 271.
Energy Blasts
Vegeta frequently fires concentrated ki attacks from his hands, either as individual blasts or large-scale barrages.
- Used Energy Blasts against Zarbon, though Zarbon’s transformed speed allowed him to evade and counter 20 21.
- Bombarded Janemba with repeated blasts, initially mistaking the monster’s lack of visible injury for victory 197.
- Relies heavily on volleys of blasts when enraged, including against Frieza’s Diamond Form and Kid Majin Buu 271 325.
Ultimate Explosive Wave
A high-output Energy Wave used as Vegeta’s decisive beam attack.
- Attempted to overload Super 17 with it; Super 17’s absorption ability made the strategy dangerously reckless 140.
- Clashed with Syn Shenron’s Energy Wave during the Shadow Dragon conflict 153.
- Forced Kid Majin Buu to flee rather than face the attack directly 270.
- Was overpowered by Beerus’s Hakai Energy during their clash 293.
Great Ape Control
Vegeta can retain his consciousness while transforming through the Golden Great Ape state.
- Declares that, unlike Goku, he does not lose his mind as a Great Ape 147.
- Condenses Golden Great Ape into Super Saiyan 4, gaining red fur and a dramatic increase in Battle Power 147.
Equipment
- Scouter — Seized one before departing for Namek to track targets and Dragon Balls; later destroyed it after learning ki control 14 20.

- Son Gohan — Initially an enemy’s child whom Vegeta underestimates; later becomes the fighter he most wants to surpass. Gohan repeatedly heals or rescues him, and Vegeta eventually seeks his training guidance 21 240 275 326.
- Trunks — His son. Trunks trains under Vegeta, worries over his defeats, tries to rescue him from Majin Buu, and takes pride in his father’s strength 214 258 272.
- Future Trunks — His son from a future timeline. Future Trunks is overwhelmed upon meeting him, while Vegeta later protects him against Future Cooler 47 391.
- Nappa — Former henchman. Vegeta once killed him on Earth; when Nappa later returned seeking revenge, Vegeta offered him a chance to leave before killing him again 2 136.
