History
The Calamity Base appeared inside Cheng Shaofeng's head after he woke in a raider dungeon. At activation, it held only 0.1% energy, ran on bioenergy recharge, and provided retinal-projection access through Smart Butler Zero. Its initial functions were Nano Construction, Quantum Surfing, Clone Projection, and Information Editor; it also possessed a Low-Grade Nano Engineer and three stored clone slots. 2
Unable to excavate a safe escape route with its nearly exhausted energy reserves, Cheng used the base's clone function to summon players from Earth into clone bodies. These players became the first “soldiers” of the Calamity Base and formed the foundation of its combat force. 2 5
The base initially developed around Huo Town, combining player labor with native recruitment. Wu Jie joined with his stored supplies, and 53 people from Zhao Village were permitted to settle below the mountaintop base for protection. 70 78 Its first major defensive test came during the Raider assault, when the players successfully held the Calamity Base through coordinated use of backup clones and Skeleton Revival. 55
After energy reached 5.89%, the base unlocked a Smartwatch Communication Base, Energy Emitter Pillar, Equipment Inlay Modifier, and Nano Recording Robot. 70 A later expansion added multiple Clone Production Pods, Loot Generators, Attribute Conversion Towers, and overlapping Energy Emitter Pillars to support a rapidly growing player population. 171 173
Following the capture of Red City, the Calamity Base shifted its main operations into the inner city while maintaining Huo Town as a farming and supply location. It subsequently established branch bases, including one in Center City and one on the Western Battlefield. 253 300 402
Functions and Infrastructure
Clone Projection
The base produces clone bodies for Earth players, allowing Cheng Shaofeng to field soldiers whose appearances are randomly generated. 2 25
- Clone Production Pods support player deployment and respawning; a temporary Red City internal base contained ten pods during the bionic-robot campaign. 240
- Four additional pods were constructed after supplies arrived from Colossus City, increasing summon speed fourfold. 171 173
- Player data is stored within Cheng's internal Calamity Base; as long as Cheng survives, he can summon the players again and establish a new base. 360
Nano Construction and Manufacturing
Low-Grade Nano Engineers can use available resources to construct infrastructure with minimal energy consumption. 2
- Loot Generator — Decomposes items and corpses into loot based on energy intensity. Its operation consumes base energy. 10 70
- Attribute Conversion Tower — Identifies and converts suitable materials while using comparatively little energy. 70
- Equipment Inlay Modifier — Extracts and separates equipment inlays; its construction requires 20 kg of iron and five Electronic Components. 70
- Universal Synthesis Machine / Omni-Synthesizer — Can synthesize and reshape objects small enough to enter the machine, creating blueprints after successful synthesis; it is resource- and energy-intensive. 162
- Nano Recording Robot — Records demonstrated skills onto Blank Skill Imprints, expanding profession skill trees and potentially creating new professions. 70
- Multi-Skill Recording Tome — A Level 5 item capable of copying all skills of a consenting individual into one tome. 373
Energy Management
The base's earliest limitation was its critically low energy supply. Cheng introduced paid Loot Generator usage after its energy fell to 2.89%, giving players two free daily uses and charging Iron Coins for additional uses. 70
- Bioenergy — The initial energy source while the base operated at 0.1% capacity. 2
- Radiation energy — Can be emitted as radiation waves through an Energy Emitter Pillar, though it may strengthen or heal Raiders rather than harm them. 70
- Electrical energy — Can power nearby devices through radio-wave generation. 70
- Crystal Energy — Can be converted into experience waves, allowing base clones to gain experience and level rapidly. 70
- Energy Emitter Pillar — Can be built by modifying suitable energy-emission equipment; four overlapping pillars were used to cover the perimeter without blind spots. 70 171
- Experience Pool — Unlocked at Level 5. 373
Communications and Information
The base's retinal AR interface can be viewed even when Cheng closes his eyes. 2
- Quantum Surfing allows Cheng to access Earth-side forums and seek technical or strategic advice. 114
- Communication Base Stations extend map visibility and maintain long-distance signals. 208
- A standard Communication Base Station covers a circular area with a 20-kilometer radius. 300
- The base's communications network later became a major commercial advantage, allowing stable long-distance contact unavailable to most Wasteland factions. 508
Defense
The base evolved from exposed machinery and Energy Emitter Pillars into a fortified network of protected main bases and sub-bases.
- Energy Emitter Pillars — Provided early perimeter coverage but became insufficient against enemies above Third Order. 171 373
- Multi-Architecture Energy Shield — A Level 5 defensive shield that can withstand attacks from Fifth-Order Domain Users for up to 24 hours with adequate energy. 373
- Portable Multi-functional Energy Tower — A Level 5 defensive and utility structure. 373
- Fourth-Order Fisherman Robot — Controlled by Zero to guard Red City's crystal reserves. 253
- Branch-base traps — Center City's sub-base defenses captured the Night Blade assassin Ji Qi after he triggered its traps. 383
Economy and Logistics
- The base issues Iron Coins for internal loot distribution and allows a one-to-one exchange between Iron Coins and Crystals. 508
- Loot Generator profits are split evenly between the Calamity Bases and participating players, rather than being distributed solely by kill count. 508
- The Apocalypse Shop, managed by Wu Ke and Wu Jie, trades equipment, inlays, wasteland materials, and base-made goods. 360 508
- Judgment Bullets, a Center City arms shop, sells enchanted ammunition and accepts custom orders. 375
- Enchanted-ammunition production became a major industry, with large orders from the Soldier and Shaman inheritances. 360
- The base's communication network enabled cooperation with Wasteland caravans, which began using the network for long-distance contact. 508
Relationships
- Cheng Shaofeng — Lord and primary controller; the base is stationed in his head and serves as the foundation of his survival, growth, and command structure. 2 360
- Smart Butler Zero — The base's AI administrator, which manages projections, construction, records, alerts, and technical explanations. 2 70 373
- Players / Calamity Base soldiers — Earth players summoned into clone bodies; they supply the base's combat power, construction labor, skill data, and economic activity. 2 171 508
- Wu Jie — Native resident and commercial manager who joined with his supplies and later helped operate the base's Center City shop. 70 300
- Human Alliance — Allied organization that recognizes the Calamity Base as a major force; its members later provide Fifth-Order Domain Users for joint operations. 360 472
- Wanderers and native residents — Recruited as laborers, guards, Necromancers, and settlement residents as the base expanded. 218 226 444
Mysteries
The origin and creator of the Calamity Base remain unknown. Zero lacks records of its manufacturing process and could not identify its creator even after the Level 5 database update. 227 373
Its relationship with Duoyu Academy is also unresolved. Cheng suspects a connection after outsiders referred to his players as “old-model clones,” but no confirmed explanation has been discovered. 227
Only Calamity Base members can safely receive Constellation blessings through Shrines, an abnormal compatibility that Cheng considers evidence of a deeper connection between the base, Shrines, and Constellations. 320 367
