Background / History

Yue Hongchen is a transmigrator from Earth who entered the Hongchen Family after being orphaned at birth. Jing Hongchen raised him alongside Xiao Hongchen and Meng Hongchen, though Yue and Meng are not related by blood. Yue is particularly protective of Meng, who relies heavily on him and considers him her brother. 1 12

On his thirteenth birthday, Yue awakened the Blood Oath Pact, a slender sword Martial Soul that glows faintly blue. His years of sword training had fulfilled his wish to become a sword cultivator. The awakening also produced an automatically condensed Soul Ring, a secret Jing Hongchen ordered the family to conceal. 1 2

Katyusha, Yue’s childhood friend from Earth, later appeared in his Sea of Consciousness as his Martial Soul, Katy. Because Yue was initially too weak for her to remain outside for long, he resolved to grow stronger so she could see the world through her own eyes. 2

Jing Hongchen arranged for Yue and Meng to attend Shrek Academy as visiting students. Yue enrolled as a Level 35 Soul Elder, became known for overwhelming classmates and assessment opponents alone, and later helped establish cooperation between the Hongchen Family/Mingde Hall and Shrek Academy. 3 10 21 24

Appearance

Yue normally has short silver-white hair, a sunny expression, and a bright, approachable smile. When he activates his true form, his appearance and demeanor become markedly more severe. 3 4

  • Normally wields a slender, blue-lit sword with intricate patterns on its hilt. 1
  • True form increases his height to roughly two meters. 4
  • His short silver-white hair becomes long hair flowing down his back. 4
  • His usual cheerful face changes into a stern expression while transformed. 4

Personality

Yue is considerate and protective, particularly toward Meng and people he regards as friends. He supported Huo Yuhao’s grilled-fish business, intervened when Xu Sanshi targeted Huo, and agreed to help Lin Muxue escape her forced marriage arrangement after investigating her claims. 6 7 17 18

Despite his strength, Yue generally shows restraint and sportsmanship. He declined the class-monitor position because he believed sword cultivators were poorly suited to managing teams, held back during the freshman assessment, and helped the Lan sisters off the stage after defeating them. 4 10 11

He is also strategic and politically aware. Yue recruited promising students for Mingde Hall, deliberately used the freshman assessment to demonstrate Soul Tool power, and negotiated the framework for cooperation between Shrek Academy and the Hongchen Family. 14 21

Abilities & Skills

Blood Oath Pact

Yue’s primary Martial Soul is a sword with a blue-lit blade. It possesses multiple forms and can condense Soul Rings without hunting Soul Beasts. 1 2 16

  • Automatically absorbs ambient heaven-and-earth energy to condense a Soul Ring at a cultivation bottleneck. 2
  • Is sharp enough to damage the arena floor and contest the Lan sisters’ Martial Soul Fusion Skill without Soul Power. 11
  • Can manifest sword energy capable of defeating opponents in a single strike. 4 12
  • Has at least three Soul Skills, which Yue had fully grasped by the round of sixty-four. 12

True Form

Yue’s first Soul Skill reveals an enhanced true form, transforming both his body and fighting presence. 4

  • Enlarges his body and changes his hair from short to long. 4
  • Lengthens and refines the Blood Oath Pact’s blade. 4
  • Produces two swords behind him during its initial display. 4
  • Greatly amplifies his aura and combat power; its later enhanced manifestation materializes three sword shadows. 29

Three Sword Authorities

While empowered, Yue can manifest the sword shadows of the Divine Authority Sword, Sword of Unalienable Rights, and Sword of Human Rights. 4 19 29

  • Divine Authority Sword — restrains targets through suction force. 29
  • Sword of Unalienable Rights — applies suppressive pressure that slows an opponent’s power flow. 29
  • Sword of Human Rights — can target an enemy’s weak point, such as the Ice Fire Poison Horn Deer’s poisonous horn. 29
  • The three swords can descend over a large area and support Xiao Ka’s spatial authority. 19

Xiao Ka’s Authority

Xiao Ka can act through Yue’s Sea of Consciousness and lend him authority over separation, fusion, and limited space. 16 19

  • Separation — nullifies or separates incoming Soul Skills, causing effects such as ice cages, flames, paralysis, and lightning attacks to fail against Yue. 16 19
  • Spatial authority — teleports marked targets; Yue used it to bring instigators from the spectator stands onto the assessment stage. 19
  • Xiao Ka can temporarily control Yue’s body in battle. 16
  • The authority depends on their shared Soul Power and mental power; Xiao Ka could not fight independently after Yue’s battle with the Ice Fire Poison Horn Deer. 30

Indomitable Fate Crown

Katyusha’s weapon can replace the Blood Oath Pact as Yue’s active weapon, though it does not function as an additional Martial Soul or provide separate Soul Rings. 15

  • Appears as a restrained, elegant sword with flowing blue energy. 15
  • Was used against Lin Muxue’s team and the Ice Fire Poison Horn Deer. 15 29
  • Can transform again into the crimson Hongchen Sword. 30
  • Its light dimmed and showed signs of disintegrating after Yue’s defeat by the Ice Fire Poison Horn Deer. 29

Hongchen Swordplay

A sword art Yue honed through cultivation and combat. Its first documented form manifested while he protected Meng from the Ice Fire Poison Horn Deer. 25 30

  • First Form: Ask the Heart — sends gentle sword intent into the target, forcing it to confront memories and regrets it cannot face. 30
  • Does not threaten a being whose heart is clear and free of guilt. 30
  • Calmed the Ice Fire Poison Horn Deer’s violent Soul Power and left it unable to resist effectively. 30
  • Generates crimson Hongchen Qi, which can form a protective shield around Yue and those he protects. 30

Swordsmanship

Yue trained as a sword cultivator before awakening his Martial Soul and continued refining his technique in Shrek’s Sword Tomb. 1 25

  • Initially struggled against three-ring Soul Masters while using only his sword. 25
  • Progressed from narrow wins to easy victories in sparring. 25
  • Eventually trained against multiple opponents at once because one-on-one sparring no longer improved him. 25

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Blood Oath Pact — Yue’s primary blue-lit sword Martial Soul. 1
  • Indomitable Fate Crown — Katyusha’s weapon, usable by Yue as an alternate sword form. 15
  • Hongchen Sword — crimson form of the Indomitable Fate Crown used with Hongchen Swordplay. 30
  • Level 3 Fixed Soul Cannon — used to deter Xu Sanshi from escalating their confrontation. 7
  • Level 7 Fixed Soul Tool Cannons — activated ten cannons against hostile students; later carried an additional ten while guarding Meng’s Soul Ring absorption. 20 30
  • Storage Soul Tool ring — used to store and deploy Soul Tools. 7

Relationships

  • Jing Hongchen — grandfather and guardian; recognized Yue’s dedication to swordsmanship, arranged his placement at Shrek, and supported his future plans. 1 2
  • Meng Hongchen — adoptive younger sister; Yue is intensely protective of her, and their unusually close bond is central to his decisions. 1 12 20 30
  • Katyusha / Katy — Yue’s childhood friend from Earth and Martial Soul; Yue promised to become strong enough for her to experience the outside world. 2
  • Xiao Ka — companion within Yue’s Sea of Consciousness who can lend him authority and temporarily control his body. 16 19
  • Xiao Hongchen — sibling; Yue reassures Xiao of their family bond and later shares quiet domestic moments with him and Meng. 1 7
  • Huo Yuhao — friend; Yue promoted Huo’s grilled-fish stall, protected him from Xu Sanshi, and was entrusted with Huo’s Soul Ring secret. 6 7 26
  • Ning Tian — classmate and ally; accepted Yue’s refusal of the class-monitor role, later became part of his social circle and supported the proposed Tang Sect reconstruction. 4 9
  • Wu Feng — classmate and former duel opponent; Yue defeated her in one move, after which they became associates through Ning Tian and Meng’s team. 4 8
  • Lin Muxue, Lei Baiyu, and Miao Chuyao — defeated opponents who sought to join the Hongchen Family; Yue agreed to protect Lin Muxue from the White Tiger Duke’s household. 16 17 18
  • Xing Yueyao — student Yue attempted to recruit for Mingde Hall due to the strategic potential of her Chessboard Martial Soul. 14

Story Role / Major Arcs

Shrek Enrollment and Class Nine

Yue arrived at Shrek Academy with Meng, enrolled in Class Nine, and established his reputation by defeating Wu Feng despite Ning Tian’s support. He declined the class-monitor role at that time, preferring to focus on sword cultivation rather than team management. 3 4

Freshman Assessment

Allowed to participate alone because of his exceptional strength, Yue earned five consecutive victories and became Area Thirty-Three’s seeded team. He defeated Huang Chutian’s team and broke the Lan sisters’ Martial Soul Fusion Skill, then advanced through the elimination rounds with repeated one-move victories. 10 11 12

Yue ultimately surrendered his semifinal match against Meng to protect her from fighting him. When students insulted them, he used Xiao Ka’s spatial authority and Level 7 Fixed Soul Tool Cannons to confront the instigators, resulting in his disqualification from the finals. 19 20

Mingde Hall–Shrek Cooperation

Yue revealed that he had manipulated the assessment incident to publicly demonstrate the strategic threat of Soul Tools. He then represented the Hongchen Family’s proposal to establish reciprocal branches between Mingde Hall and Shrek Academy. 21

After the agreement, Shrek’s Soul Engineering Department became the Mingde Hall branch hall. Yue, Meng, and their group transferred there, with Yue appointed class monitor and Meng vice monitor. 24

Sword Tomb Training and Far North Expedition

Over the following eight months, Yue cultivated in the Sword Tomb and refined his swordsmanship through increasingly difficult sparring matches. 25

He then traveled to the Far North with Meng to obtain her fourth Soul Ring. Yue defeated a Nile Crocodile, enabling Meng to acquire an External Soul Bone, but was severely injured by the Ice Fire Poison Horn Deer. 28 29

Protecting Meng from the beast awakened Yue’s Hongchen Swordplay. He used Ask the Heart to subdue the Ice Fire Poison Horn Deer, allowing Meng to finish it and absorb its Soul Ring. 30
