Background / History

The Heavenly Dao was originally meant to be absolutely impartial. It became tainted by the thoughts of living beings, developed its own desires, and sought to cooperate with Hongjun in a scheme to usurp control of the Prehistoric World. Because the Martial Dao lies outside fate's ordinary workings, it treated Huang Tian and his path as unacceptable variables 5.

It sought the dissipation of Pangu's Will by weakening Buzhou Mountain's origin. Huang Tian discovered this design after obtaining the God-Slaying Spear, then directly opposed it by using the Martial Dao Stone Tablets, Earth Vein power, and Great Dao Merit to preserve Pangu's Will and reinforce Buzhou Mountain 18 23.

The Eye of Heavenly Dao repeatedly intervened against Huang Tian's actions: it observed the protection of Buzhou Mountain, opposed Wangshu's return to the starry sky, and attempted to prevent the Human Race from establishing its dynasty 23 149 136. Its hostility culminated when Huang Tian shattered its Eye and condemned its injustice; the Great Dao then erased the Sentient Heavenly Dao's will, while Hongjun fused with the remaining Heavenly Dao to maintain cosmic order 125.

Despite this loss of sentience, the Heavenly Dao continued to act through its Eye and its laws. It recognized the Earth Dao's opening, punished Taiqing when forced to choose between him and the Human Race, and later became weakened during the clash between the Eyes of four worlds 127 160 175.

Manifestation

The Heavenly Dao most often manifests as an immense Eye within thunderclouds, accompanied by destructive lightning, order chains, and the circulation of the Three Thousand Heavenly Dao laws 23 125.

• Its Eye may form an incarnation with peak Sage-level power by drawing on Heaven and Earth's strength 199.

The Heavenly Dao governs the Prehistoric World's order and can acknowledge proclamations that conform to its authority.

Heavenly Tribulation and Divine Punishment

It can summon heavenly thunder, tribulation clouds, and destructive lightning against targets or events it opposes.

• Descended to annihilate the Human Race during the establishment of the Great Han Dynasty 136.
• Used Purple Cloud Divine Lightning and Order Chains against Huang Tian 125.
• Can manifest enough power to overwhelm ordinary Human Race cultivators and resist attacks from powerful treasures 136 199.

Fate and Destiny Interference

The Heavenly Dao can mobilize Heavenly Dao laws and influence the River of Destiny, though it struggles against powers rooted in the Human Dao and Great Dao.

• Ordered the Six Sages of the Profound Gate to prevent Wangshu from returning to the starry sky 149.
• Formed the River of Destiny and deployed Order Chains to suppress Wangshu 149.
• Attempted to block the Human Race's independent national fortune and the formation of the Great Han Dynasty 135 136.

Limits

Its authority is not absolute when constrained by impartiality, the Great Dao, or forces outside its control.

• The Kongtong Seal caused its Eye to withdraw when it moved to protect Huang Tian 5.
• The Eye of Great Dao forced its Eye to retreat from Buzhou Mountain 23.
• The Great Dao erased its sentience after it attempted to kill Huang Tian and obstruct Houtu's transformation into Reincarnation 125.
• When acting from selfish motives rather than enforcing cosmic order, it could mobilize only limited power—insufficient to defeat Huang Tian 136.
• The Great Han Dynasty's national fortune placed its territory beyond the Heavenly Dao's intervention unless that fortune could be shattered 137.
• Its Eye was weakened by its earlier schemes and later suppressed by the combined Eyes of Egypt, India, and Olympus 175.

Relationships

• Huang Tian — Primary adversary. Huang Tian repeatedly defies its schemes, protects Pangu's Will, shatters its Eye, establishes the Great Han Dynasty beyond its jurisdiction, and later repels its intervention against the South Sea Dragon Clan 23 125 136 199.
• Hongjun — Collaborator in the Sentient Heavenly Dao's attempt to control the Prehistoric World. After the Great Dao erased its sentience, Hongjun fused with it and acted as its proxy to govern order 5 125 128.
• Great Dao — Superior force that protected Huang Tian from the Eye, erased the Heavenly Dao's sentience, and bestowed merit upon Houtu 23 125.
• Pangu's Will — Opposed interest. The Heavenly Dao sought Pangu Will's dissipation through Buzhou Mountain's collapse, while Huang Tian worked to preserve it 18 23.
• Human Race — Initially treated as a threat due to the Human Dao and Martial Dao. It attempted to destroy the Human Race's new dynasty, but later punished Taiqing rather than humanity when forced to choose between them 136 160.
• Houtu — Her opening of the Earth Dao weakened the Heavenly Dao's exclusive dominance over the Prehistoric World; the Heavenly Dao nevertheless acknowledged her proclamation 127.
• Wangshu — Opposed her return to the starry sky and personally dispatched the Eye of Heavenly Dao to stop her breakthrough 149.
