Background / History

Foundation of the Demon Court

The Witch and Demon powers once cooperated to destroy East King Duke’s Immortal Court. Dijun and his allies inherited its holdings and established the Demon Court in the Thirty-three Heavens. The resulting order placed the Demon Clan in the sky and the Witch Clan on the earth, beginning their prolonged struggle for supremacy 21.

The name “Demon Clan” distinguishes the races gathered under Dijun’s court from the other myriad races; it does not identify a single shared bloodline. Hongjun later explains that demons are beings nurtured by Heaven and Earth from Pangu’s transformed body 12 176.

Early Conflict with Humanity

Demon predators initially regard humans as “Blood Food.” The Crimson Nether Demon Ape consumes tens of thousands of humans before Huang Tian kills it. As humanity develops, Huang Tian orders human cultivators to hunt demons both for combat experience and to supply the Spirit Transformation Pool with flesh and blood 4 9.

The Demon Clan’s counterattacks fail to halt human expansion along the East Sea shore. Dijun secretly orders the Earth Bear Clan to slaughter humans, weaken them, and keep the survivors as livestock. Huang Tian defeats the bears and instead binds their surviving members to guard human settlements 10 12.

The Martial Dao Stone Tablet War

Dijun recognizes that Martial Dao could reduce the demons’ physical disadvantage against witches. The Witch Clan attempts to prevent demon access to the tablets, turning earlier friction into mass warfare. Demon losses force Dijun to deploy Kunpeng, Fuxi, and the Ten Great Demon Sages 25.

Neither side can sustain the fighting indefinitely. The twelve tablets are divided: four for the Demon Clan, four for the Witch Clan, and four shared by the other races and independent cultivators 25.

First Major Wars and the Loss of Stellar Ground

While Dijun and Taiyi attend Nuwa’s preaching in chaos, Demon Saints remain behind to guard the court and prepare to annihilate humanity after the Sage’s Barrier disappears. Fei Lian and Qin Yuan subsequently invade with hundreds of millions of troops. Their sixty Daluo Demon Gods are annihilated by the six human clan leaders 31 33 35.

At the same time, the Witch Clan invades the Thirty-three Heavens. Taiyi returns with the Chaos Bell, and Dijun deploys the Zhou Tian Star Dou Formation against the witches’ opposing formation. The clash devastates both factions without producing a decisive victor 38 43.

Humanity then enters the starry sky, threatening a foundation the Demon Clan had retained as a fallback. Losing stellar territory also threatens the future strength of its supreme formation 45.

Dragon Rebellion and the Four Seas Ban

The Dragon Clan had previously been forced into submission by Taiyi. Yinglong’s return overturns the assumption that the dragons are merely weakened remnants: he devastates the army led by Citie, Jimeng, and Yingzhao before Taiyi intervenes 94.

Yinglong separates the Dragon Clan’s destiny from the Demon Clan’s, and Dijun orders the Ten Great Demon Sages to exterminate the Four Seas dragons. Human reinforcements prevent the demons from achieving that objective. The dragons become human affiliates, and Huang Tian forbids all Demon Race members from entering the Four Seas on pain of death 95 96 98.

Golden Crow Disaster

The ten Golden Crow princes cause destruction within the Heavenly Court, prompting the leadership to move them to Tang Valley. Dijun prohibits their departure until they reach the Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal realm 140 141.

Zhunti neutralizes the guards, breaks the restriction, and provokes the princes into pursuing him. Their Sun True Fire devastates the land and Witch Clan settlements. A protective talisman prepared by Dijun kills Kuafu during his attempt to stop them; Dayi retaliates by shooting down nine princes. Taiyi’s furious attack on Dayi brings the Ancestral Witches into the confrontation 141 142 143.

Witch-Slaying Sword Campaign

Baize reports that eating human flesh strengthens demons and that weapons bearing human souls can injure witches. Kunpeng confirms that the method can be expanded. Fuxi warns of heavenly punishment and karmic ruin, while Dijun fears retaliation from Huang Tian and humanity’s powerful allies 153.

The clan nevertheless attacks Shouyang, slaughtering its inhabitants and collecting their souls in banners for the planned Witch-Slaying Sword. Heavenly punishment kills millions of demons. Huang Tian initially refuses to rescue Shouyang, whose people had rejected his leadership and followed Taiqing 155.

Eastern human armies then destroy three to four hundred million demon troops, including approximately three thousand Daluo Golden Immortals. Dijun escalates the invasion and commits the clan’s remaining powerful generals. Meanwhile, its ten ancient supreme elders attack the Witch Clan with the World-Ending Millstone, only to be annihilated with the treasure by Pangu Temple 157 158 163.

Invasion, Reparations, and Political Defeat

The myriad worlds exploit the weakened world barrier during the internal wars. Invaders slaughter hundreds of millions of demons before Nuwa’s Summoning Demon Banner kills two attackers and Huang Tian suppresses the remaining one, revealed as East King Duke 163.

Dijun thanks Huang Tian for saving the demon army. Under Huang Tian’s direction, the Witch and Demon Clans suspend their conflict; Dijun and Taiyi depart to fight the invaders in the Endless Earth Abyss and atone for their prolonged warfare 166.

Despite that service, Zhunti persuades Hongjun to remove Dijun from the Heavenly Emperor position. The clan later receives merit for making amends and agrees to remain within the Thirty-three Heavens, but the Profound Gate Sages immediately pressure it to surrender those heavens 176 179.

Some demons enter the Sages’ teachings, especially Tongtian’s Interception Sect. Dijun permits their departure and attempts to preserve the remaining clan through isolation and careful resource use. This refuge does not last: Haotian ultimately forces the Demon Clan to abandon the heavens and withdraw north 181 182 185 188.

Submission to Humanity

Facing Haotian’s compulsory recruitment of demons, Dijun seeks Huang Tian’s help. Huang Tian offers protection through formal subordination: the Demon Race must proclaim itself an appendage of humanity to receive Human Race Destiny 192.

Huang Tian also intends to use the Demon Clan to shoulder much of the karma generated by future struggles for destiny. By the later Dragon Clan crisis, the demons are explicitly counted among humanity’s strongest vassal races 192 195.

Abilities & Skills

Zhou Tian Star Dou Formation

  • Draws upon the stars to unleash Saint-level power 43.
  • Requires stellar origins to display its full strength; human occupation of the starry sky threatens its effectiveness 45.
  • Baize considers it strong enough to confront Taiqing, then a fourth-level Sage 153.

Martial Dao Cultivation

  • Cultivates the internal and external aspects together, offering demons a means to strengthen their bodies against witches 25.
  • The clan controls four Martial Dao Stone Tablets containing cultivation methods, combat techniques, and divine abilities 25 32.

Destiny Empowerment

  • The Summoning Demon Banner gathers clan fortune and bestows it upon Dijun 163.
  • Without the banner, Dijun is described during the invasion as an ordinary late-stage Quasi-Saint unable to oppose three half-step Hunyuan Daluo attackers 163.
  • Human vassalage later provides access to blessings from Human Race Destiny 192.

Human-Soul Weapon Refinement

  • Consuming human flesh and blood benefits both demon bodies and Nascent Souls 153.
  • Attaching human souls to ordinary weapons enables them to injure witches; Baize reports thousands of cases in which Golden Immortal demons killed Taiyi-level witches 153.
  • Scaling the method requires mass slaughter and exposes the clan to heavenly punishment and immense karmic consequences 153 155.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Chaos Bell — Taiyi’s Innate Supreme Treasure; a major battlefield weapon and a means of suppressing Demon Race fortune 38 108.
  • Summoning Demon Banner — Racial supreme treasure that holds demon fortune. Its absence creates a strategic vulnerability; it later returns from Nuwa’s palace during the invasion 108 163.
  • World-Ending Millstone — Former Chaos Supreme Treasure summoned by the ten supreme elders through their Five Elements and Eight Trigrams formation; destroyed by Pangu Temple 158 163.

  • Huang Tian — Principal opponent whose power restrains direct Sage intervention; eventually becomes the protector and master the clan approaches for survival 153 163 192.
  • Witch Clan — Founding-era ally against the Immortal Court, then rival for world supremacy. Cooperation against foreign invaders does not erase their old hatred 21 166 181.
  • Dragon Clan — Former subordinate race forcibly incorporated by Taiyi; its rebellion and alliance with humanity cost the demons their influence over the Four Seas 94 95 98.
  • Nuwa — Provides decisive aid through the Summoning Demon Banner and defends Dijun against removal from office; her position is complicated by her creation of humanity and Fuxi’s demon ties 87 163 176.
