Background

Hongjun was originally the formless, emotionless Great Dao of the Chaos Primordial World. To grow stronger, he established repeated world reincarnation cycles: as his world expanded, so did he. The endless cycles nearly wore away all of his emotions, so he left a fragment of his soul in another world as a contingency. That fragment lived for over twenty years on Blue Star before returning to him. 1

After awakening in Chaos, Hongjun accepted the name and identity associated with the world he had created. He established the Heavenly Dao, became its spokesperson, and arranged the Primordial World's reincarnation narrative. He then created Pangu, the Three Thousand Chaos Demon Gods, and Pangu's treasures to begin the creation of heaven and earth. 1

Following Pangu's creation of the Primordial World, Hongjun took responsibility for stabilizing it while the Chaos Heavenly Dao transformed into the Primordial World Heavenly Dao. He later “possessed himself,” assuming the identity of Hongjun on Jade Capital Mountain so that he could personally experience the developing world. 10

Hongjun views transmigrators as valuable outside influences rather than threats. Their systems and rewards are backed by Great Daos from other worlds; by remaining in the Primordial World, they bring resources and world-origin benefits that strengthen Hongjun's world. 13 19

Appearance

Hongjun is fundamentally formless and can select his own appearance. His preferred human form is male, reflecting both his former identity and his Blue Star memories. 1

• Initially appeared as an aged man with three thousand silver hairs, wrinkles, a hunched back, gray robe, and walking stick. 1
• After regaining emotion, his hair turned black, wrinkles vanished, posture straightened, and gray robe became an azure shirt. 1

Personality

Hongjun began as an invincible but lonely Great Dao whose emotions had been nearly erased by endless reincarnations. His Blue Star memories restored his capacity for amusement, curiosity, and attachment to the Primordial World. 1

He is pragmatic, patient, and often sarcastic. Rather than immediately eliminating transmigrators who distrust him, he lets them act until their systems have yielded their resources. 13 19 His calm behavior and superior knowledge frequently lead others—especially Yang Mei, Luohu, and Shi Chen—to interpret every action as a conspiracy. 14 22 31

Despite his willingness to exploit opportunities, Hongjun repeatedly frames his actions around preserving the Primordial World. He warns his fellow Daoists of the likely consequences of entering the Immortal Slaying Sword Formation, protects Wangshu from becoming involved in the formation, and intervenes in the Three Races conflict to limit further damage to the world. 23 40

Creation of the Primordial World

Hongjun awakens as the Great Dao, restores his emotions, and chooses to develop the Primordial World rather than remain alone in Chaos. He sets Pangu's creation of heaven and earth in motion and becomes the Heavenly Dao's spokesperson. 1

Dao-Demon Conflict

Hongjun initially declines to join Yang Mei, Yin Yang, and Qiankun against Luohu because the Heavenly Dao's grand momentum has not yet arrived. He later accompanies them into the Immortal Slaying Sword Formation, warns them of the likely deaths, and survives Luohu's final attack through Great Dao Power. 15 20 23 26

After Luohu's defeat, Hongjun explains to Yang Mei that he never plotted against the others, though Yang Mei's own interference removed his chance of survival within the Primordial World. 29

Sainthood and the Three Races

Hongjun becomes a Saint to intervene in the conflict caused by the Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin races' uncontrolled expansion. Rather than simply allow their mutual destruction, he offers them three choices: battle in Chaos, become auspicious signs, or submit to a chosen protagonist race. 40

When Ancestral Dragon openly defies him, Hongjun demonstrates the gap between Sage and non-Sage by striking him down with a slap. He later acts under Heavenly Dao authority to defeat Ancestral Dragon, eliminate the Dragon Race's upper-level forces, and bind the surviving dragons' future cultivation to accumulated merit. 44 46 48

Resettlement of the Phoenix and Qilin Races

Hongjun spares the Phoenix and Qilin races from annihilation by assigning their elites to a new world where they refine Chaos Qi for the benefit of the Primordial World. Only limited populations below Golden Immortal remain within the Primordial World. 49
