Background / History
Pangu was created by Hongjun as the largest of the three thousand Chaos Demon God eggs. Formed from Chaos Qi and embodying the Law of Strength, his Dao rhythm rivaled that of a Heavenly Dao Sage even before birth. Hongjun placed one hundred-millionth of his own origin within Pangu, leading to Pangu's status as the Son of the Great Dao. 1 2
When Pangu's original body hatched, the Blue Star native Ye Qing transmigrated into it and eventually became its dominant consciousness. Having read Honghuang novels in his former life, Ye Qing believed Pangu's destiny—to open Heaven and Earth, fight the Chaos Demon Gods, and transform into the world—would inevitably end in his death. He therefore swore never to open the heavens, despite knowing that doing so was necessary for the Primordial World's creation. 2 3
Seeking an escape route, Pangu searched for the Chaos Bead, intending to create a world inside it and attain enlightenment beyond the Great Dao's reach. Hongjun secretly created the bead in response to Pangu's wish, though its internal chaotic realm was finite rather than equal to true Chaos. Pangu then decided to preserve himself by hiding part of his Primordial Spirit in a powerful Spiritual Root. 4
Hongjun transformed an ordinary crooked-neck tree into the Star Dou Tree and positioned it near Pangu. Pangu fought the Chaos Demon Ape resting on the tree, shattered the ape's origin into the Four Monkeys of Chaos, and split his own Primordial Spirit in two. A small portion remained in Pangu's original body, while the greater portion occupied the Star Dou Tree within the Chaos Bead. 5 6
After nearly ten thousand years, Pangu's Star Dou Tree body transformed into a purple-robed young Daoist at the Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal of the Origin realm. He concealed this reborn body within the Chaos Bead and returned in his original form to open Heaven and Earth. 6
Pangu cleaved Chaos apart with the Sky-Opening Axe, then fought the Three Thousand Chaos Demon Gods when they converged upon him. He slew numerous Demon Gods, whose powers and bodies became Laws and nourishment for the forming Primordial World. The Chaos Green Lotus and Jade Disk of Creation shattered during the battle, while the Sky-Opening Axe later divided into the Pangu Banner, Chaos Bell, and Taiji Diagram. 7 8
Once Heaven and Earth had stabilized, Pangu vowed to transform his body into all things. His original body became the heavens, earth, stars, mountains, rivers, Three Pure Ones, and Twelve Ancestral Witches. His hidden Star Dou Tree body also began to dissipate, as it remained part of Pangu and was bound by the vow he had made. 9
Hongjun revealed that the Chaos Bead and Star Dou Tree had been created specifically for Pangu, and that Pangu's assumptions about hiding from the Great Dao had been mistaken. Pangu died unwillingly as both bodies completed their transformation into nourishment for the Primordial World. 10
Appearance
Pangu's original form was an immeasurably tall, muscular giant whose body extended to the limits of the Void. His presence carried an unfathomable Dao aura that intimidated the other Chaos Demon Gods. 2
- Stood upon the Thirty-Six-Rank Chaos Green Lotus. 1 2
- Wielded the Sky-Opening Axe and kept the Jade Disk of Creation above his head. 1 2
- His reborn Star Dou Tree body took the form of a young man in purple robes. 6
- Could enlarge his body further during combat. 6 8
Personality
As Ye Qing, Pangu was deeply suspicious of the Great Dao and interpreted his destined role as a scheme meant to sacrifice him. He was determined to survive, but his fear of death repeatedly shaped his choices: he pursued the Chaos Bead, split his Primordial Spirit, and attempted to let his original body fulfill the world-creation oath in his place. 3 4 6 9
He was also arrogant and self-assured, believing his status as a transmigrator made him uniquely qualified to outwit the Great Dao. He regarded the Chaos Bead and Star Dou Tree as naturally deserved opportunities and routinely blamed Hongjun for events that Hongjun had not forced upon him. 4 5 10
In battle, Pangu was ruthless and bloodthirsty. He attempted to destroy the Four Monkeys of Chaos after defeating the Chaos Demon Ape, then slaughtered numerous Chaos Demon Gods during the creation of Heaven and Earth. 6 8
Abilities & Skills
Law of Strength
Pangu was the Chaos Demon God whose principal law was Strength. His attacks could split the Chaos Void, and his natural power greatly exceeded that of ordinary Chaos Demon Gods. 1 6
- Defeated the Chaos Demon Ape, whose origin split into the Four Monkeys of Chaos. 6
- Could fight vast numbers of Chaos Demon Gods during the opening of Heaven and Earth. 8
- His strength was consumed heavily by repeated world-opening strikes and prolonged combat. 7 8
Sky-Opening Axe Techniques
Pangu used the Sky-Opening Axe to attack enemies and cleave open Chaos. 6 7
- Used the so-called Eighty-One Forms of Sky Splitting against the Chaos Demon Ape; the technique was described as repeatedly swinging the axe for effect. 6
- Struck Chaos one hundred and ninety-nine times before successfully separating clear and turbid qi. 7
- The axe ultimately transformed into the Pangu Banner, Chaos Bell, and Taiji Diagram to stabilize the newborn world. 8
Primordial Spirit Division and Rebirth
Pangu divided his Primordial Spirit to establish a second body within the Star Dou Tree. 6
- The process caused extreme pain because it split his soul, true spirit, and origin. 6
- The Star Dou Tree body transformed into a Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal of the Origin after receiving Primordial Violet Qi. 6
- The reborn body could not escape Pangu's own oath to transform into all things and eventually dissipated alongside the original body. 9
World Creation
Pangu separated Chaos into Heaven and Earth, supported the sky and ground, differentiated Yin and Yang, and fixed the four poles. 7 8
- The deaths of the Chaos Demon Gods completed many Laws of the Primordial World. 8
- Pangu's final oath transformed his body into the world's myriad things. 9
- He failed to attain either the true Great Dao or a False Great Dao; Hongjun attributed this to Pangu's lack of an unwavering Dao Heart and his preparation of an escape route. 9
