Background

Chiba was born into the Hyūga Clan’s Branch Family apparently without eyes. His parents died protecting the Clan Head during the Third Shinobi World War, so the clan spared him the Caged Bird Curse Mark and supported him despite his status. This exemption made him a target of resentment among Branch Family members and bullying from the Main Family. 1 2

Chiba is a reincarnated soul with knowledge of future calamities. Over twelve years, his eyes gradually developed behind a white blindfold, allowing him to secretly observe the Hyūga’s training and learn Gentle Fist techniques without formally training. Once his Byakugan fully formed and his Tenseigan awakened, he decided to leave Konoha before the coming disasters could overtake him. 1 2

His departure began violently when Hyūga Xiaoxiang attempted to have him branded. Chiba defeated Xiaoxiang’s followers, exposed his Byakugan, used the Main Family’s Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, and openly challenged both branches of the clan. 2 3

Personality

Chiba is calculating, self-reliant, and intensely distrustful of institutions that demand sacrifice from weaker people. Hizashi Hyūga’s death and the Caged Bird system convince him that neither the Hyūga Clan Head nor Konoha’s Will of Fire can protect him as reliably as his own strength. 3 9

He plans several steps ahead, routinely using Shadow Clones as decoys, scouts, trainees, infiltrators, and combatants. His attack on the Hokage Building was primarily a diversion while a clone stole the Scroll of Sealing. 9 17

His morality is selective. He saves villagers from Evil God cultists, refuses recognition or payment, and deliberately leaves Sunagakure’s drained ninja alive.
