Background / History
Leon entered the Marines to gain access to systematic training and develop his human-form strength, hoping that Haki learned in human form could also be used while transformed into Godzilla. He initially concealed his radiation through silver fiber bandages commissioned with Kuzan’s help. His enlistment form lists his age as “16?” and his birthplace as Skull Island. 9 12
At Marineford, Garp took Leon in as a disciple, while Zephyr recognized his abnormal physical constitution and potential. Leon enrolled alongside Rosinante, though his intentionally unremarkable training results placed him only one rank below Rosinante during boot camp. Both were nevertheless selected for Zephyr’s Elite Training Camp. 11 12 16 17
Leon later became known for brutal anti-pirate operations in the East Blue, earning rumors that he would inherit Garp’s title as the “Hero of the Marines.” His Marine career ended after he killed a Celestial Dragon, an incident subsequently suppressed by the World Government. 41 42 58 259
After leaving the Marines, Leon formed the Godzilla Pirates. Issho became his first major crewmate, followed by allies including Fish-Men, former Marines, pirates, and other recruits. Leon pursued the Road Poneglyphs, reached Laugh Tale, and obtained the One Piece, but remained unsatisfied with merely completing the voyage. 145 214 367 379 387
Personality
Leon is typically calm, lazy, and irreverent even in dangerous situations. He frequently naps, lounges in deck chairs, and treats powerful figures—including Admirals, Emperors, and World Government agents—with casual disrespect. 18 185 419
Despite his detached behavior, Leon is protective of people he considers companions. He immediately pursued Rosinante after his abduction, offered him help whenever needed, and later apologized for arriving late when Rosinante was gravely injured. 54 58 250
Leon values personal freedom and rejects predetermined destiny. He dismisses Shanks’ faith in prophecy and argues that no savior will appear unless people choose to change the world themselves. 259 304 518
His methods can be ruthless or indifferent. He killed a slave trader and a Celestial Dragon, threatened Baroque Works, took Alabasta’s Poneglyph without permission, and ignored civilians being harassed when it did not concern him. 54 58 122 132
Appearance
Leon is commonly associated with bandages, which originally concealed the radiation emitted by his body. His appearance remains unusually youthful despite the passage of years. 12 41 468
