A century before the main conflict, Aizen used captain-level Shinigami as test subjects in an incident that implicated Urahara Kisuke, Yoruichi Shihōin, and their allies, forcing them from Soul Society. His ultimate goal was the throne above the void: the Soul King. 18

While serving as the Fifth Division’s vice-captain, Aizen covertly monitored and manipulated Ichigo Kurosaki’s development through Surveillance Spirit Bugs. He considered Ichigo a deliberate creation and experiment, while altering his plans after Tsuna repeatedly disrupted his operations in the World of the Living. 94 116

Aizen faked his death and arranged Rukia Kuchiki’s accelerated Sōkyoku execution to break Urahara’s technique and extract the Hōgyoku hidden within her. Aizen is calculating, patient, and intensely self-assured. He spent years embedding Kyōka Suigetsu’s release into Soul Society’s culture, staged his own death, and manipulated Rukia’s execution to obtain the Hōgyoku. 66 98

His calm exterior conceals extreme arrogance and a desire to stand above all others. Once empowered by the Hōgyoku, he becomes more openly pleased by domination, combat, and the authority to reshape others into Arrancar. 266 269

Aizen values people primarily by their usefulness. He knowingly tolerated Sora Inoue’s espionage because Sora efficiently managed Las Noches, but he sacrificed Momo Hinamori without hesitation when the Hōgyoku became available. 125 258
